Hi all,
Does anyone have tips for an effective way to get a wetsuit off in T1? I have watched videos, and use suit juice, but I really struggle with getting it off over my heels-basically that one last step. Yesterday, I missed my goal time in an event by 30 seconds because my T1 was a full minute longer than it should have been! Very frustrating.
Thanks for any tips you may have!!
Barry

Have the wetsuit at your waist by the time you get to your bike. Then push it down as far as you can (mid thigh/knee) and step on the wetsuit with one foot. Pull up with the other and then step down on the wetsuit. Pull up with the foot that was originally standing on the wetsuit and step back down. Two or three repeats and you should be out of your suit.

Thanks Shane. Appreciate the help. You described exactly what I did, but it just would not go. I got so fatigued, finally sat on ground and pried the darn thing off. My T1 was 3:46

Practice makes perfect. Wear it a couple of times to the pool and practice taking it off as quick as you can.

I cut the bottom six inches or so off the legs. Makes it a million times easier to get off.

Then practice, practice, practice. With a few trial runs, you should get a good feel for what works and what doesn't.

One of the keys is stepping on as much of the leg as possible when you pull your foot up - with practice it shouldn't take more than a couple of steps.

As above, but in addition, bodygliding or lubing your legs down to your ankles helps a LOT with that last final push off the legs.

I has this problem a lot with my previous wetsuit. Tried the step-out approach but sometimes it still didn't work--I think because my calves are "big" relative to the rest of me; I'm tall-ish and lean, so a wetsuit that fit otherwise was way too short, and the "ankles" were falling at mid-calf, so too tight there and always got stuck. (Think carefully about fit before cutting--if you cut, the suit will then be ending at a wider part of your leg--too tight or too loose can both cause problems.) If truly desperate, ProMotion and probably some other brands have models with calf zippers--that has been a lifesaver. Now even without tons of Body Glide the step-out method reliably works!

Interesting, as I have recently purchased a proper swimming wetsuit which I find difficult to get out of. I end up sitting every time but it doesn't bother me.
what does bother me is that the left leg (the 2nd one) does not want to go out smoothly, I Always waste a few seconds.

i have considered cutting it too, as I am quite short and it is slightly too long anway. I will be very careful not to cut off more than I need

The suit doesn't unravel or fray or anything? I notice the bottoms of my legs have some reinforced seams.
