Got into 6 miles with my hiking pack on today. Loaded it to 21-22lbs and hit the road. My pace was slowed by about 1:25 with the pack, really just trying to callous my shoulders and neck before getting on the trail.
I got 30 miles on the bike this morning too. I was indoors though and it was hot and clear with a heat advisory today of heat index of 100-106 deg F. Our cool spring is over. The heat has rolled in.
So...I use trainer roads and have seen the Pheonix work out pop up in the schedule before and it seemed to be a very effort of an extended ride. When I got on the bike this morning I realized that it was a Pheonix +2 work out and not the standard Pheonix workout. It was a 10 minute warm 75 minutes at 95% FTP and 5 minutes cool down. What? 75 minutes at 95% FTP? I missed my Frissell +1 last Saturday which was a 90 min work out with 5x9min at 95% FTP with 5 mins recovery. So I went with the middle of the road approach this morning and did my workout as a 4x15 minutes at 95% FTP with 5 minutes recovery. That felt really hard to me. 75 minutes would have got very interesting. I think cutting the work out was the right choice this morning.
30 miles on the bike dodging rain drops this morning. Headed to the gym shortly for an upper body workout.
Have a great weekend!
dkiller - you're in Clermont? You must ride Sugarloaf all the time. I did the half at Great Floridian three times and that damn hill got me every time.
Today: 40mins in the pool(1x500 + some 100 repeats) plus an hour Sufferfest with the intensity dialed back.
alltom1, yes, Clermont............the home of Sugarloaf Mountain, debunking the myth that Florida is totally flat. I try to do that hill once a week, its all mental now, I just focus on the first driveway, then the next, then the next, etc. Also, they finally repaved it last year, you may recall that the road condition added to the misery.
