Ironman is forever! Willing to suffer! Slow is smooth and smooth is fast......

2008 = 140.6 in 12 hours.

05/20/2024 = 264 lbs. 5'10"

Goal 5/20/2028 = 210bls AND 170.3 Ironman!

3 year plan to be cemented within BT
One day at a time! Tonight, we swim 10 laps, varying disciplines, the doggie paddle is hardest.

I will log my workouts here.

Today = swim 10 laps, up and back.

This is a big moment! It ignites the future!

We used to have a new daily workout started on BT every day.  It has been a while since I have been able to participate in that.

6:30AM: 3 miles run easy at Z2 pace.

I raced three days ago at the Colorado Triathlon in Boulder and am racing again in three days at USAT Nationals in Omaha.  The three miles were painful.  The legs are defiantly still feelings Saturday's race.  I view that as a good thing though.  My best races have been B races that come about a week after and A race when my legs are still sore.  I intentionally planned a B race a week before my A race hoping that the weird success I have had racing at races that are spaced really close together will help me peak in Omaha at the Duathlon Nationals on Friday Morning.

Did you keep at it and just not log here? I had a similar 140.6 in '08 and have attained a similar current weight. I've also made a few false starts in recent years. If you want this, don't be afraid to fall short sometimes. Just get back up and try again.

Not to be too much of a hypocrite, after that last post I went to the pool for the first time in quite a while. 1150 scm, mostly just easy 100s though towards the end I pushed for a few 25s. No records broken.

This is officially my month off from training following the two races I did earlier this month, but I did get out for a slow and easy 45 minute run on Monday and a 45 minute easy bike ride on Tuesday.  Nothing this morning but later today I will be doing a 10K bike ride with a group of teen age boys from my church.  Most of them have probably not been on a bike more than 2-3 times all year so this is a social ride.  :-)

Group fitness class at the Y this morning. I spent the weekend paddling in a dragon boat festival. Lots of new paddlers on the team so it's a rebuilding season but we did get a prize for the best decorated tent.

I did some training last week.  The first run was pretty painful and included a lot of walking.  It is amazing how you go from the top of your game before a race to the bottom of your game after a race.  Getting back after races and time off isn't fun but I have done this enough times to know that if I just get through it that things will get easier after a few weeks.  I hit the bike trainer this morning for the first time in 3-4 weeks.  I took it short and easy and it felt pretty good.  There is a half Marathon in 11 days that my wife wants me to do.  It has been on my bucket list for about 6 years and this year I actually am close enough to travel to it, the the weekend open, and it will be the last year my cousin's kids will be doing this race before moving out on their own.  So despite less that an ideal recovery and rebuild time for a race I might sign up this week.  The legs feel much better this week than last week and with another 10 days may be good to go.

Slight snag in the restart. I had a cold that kept getting worse. A doctor finally diagnosed pneumonia, followed by a week of antibiotics and another week still clearing the lungs out with light exercise, walking, elliptical, etc. Tried a short swim a few days ago too. The journey continues.

Exact same thing happened to my colleague at work.  Not an athlete per se but in shape for 57, she was sick for  like a month.  Seems to be a going around thing.  Glad you're on the mend.

And wow you've been on this site 20 years...you were a veteran when I started just lurking thinking about doing a tri.

Well, I didn't sign up for the half marathon.  It was the right choice.  I did go out and do a virtual 13.1 starting at the same time as the gun time for the race.  It was a pretty brutal 13.1 with a huge positive split.  The legs just aren't back yet so I am glad I didn't try to race.  I took another week off last week and started back this week.  I am three for three for the week.  Short runs on Monday and Tuesday and a medium run today.
