Copy Protected DVD's...

Champion  8766       Evergreen, Colorado |  Subject: Copy Protected DVD's...Okay, gang. I have a question. I am sure resourceful BTers can help me! I'm trying to make some copies of DVD's to take on a trip so that I don't scratch up my originals. But so far, most of the discs I've tried say, "Protected Disc" so I can't copy them. BASTARDS! Anywho...I once remember hearing that if you used a marker around the outer edge of the DVD (like a little bit on the readable side of the disc) it would block the copy protection so you could copy it? Sort of like you used to break off the plastic piece on copy-protected VHS movies. My question: Has anyone tested out this theory? Does it work? If it works, SPECIFICALLY how do you do it? Like how much marker do you need? How likely is this to permanently damage the disc? Does anyone have a better way? Etc. Please no flaming for copying protected DVD's...it's for my own use. It's the same as burning an extra copy of a CD to put in your car. |

The problem NOW is that it is taking FOREVER to cache the DVD to the computer. I have no idea how long it will take to burn once it's copied! Um....is there a faster way to just get the movie and not all the silly special features? I'd planned to take a LOT of my movies on this little trip with me and at this rate I'll never finish copying in time.... I am ashamed to admit this much computer ingnorance.... |

I might be bringing my laptop to work with me this week! this may need to be a constant process to get all my DVD's I want for "my little trip". |

Like the others though, it does take a while (usally around 2 hrs total for a 2hr movie). It has a 14 day free trial. And if you want to use it after that, just remove uninstall and reinstall. I don't use it enough and I'm too broke to pay for the full program. Not to hijack, but I saw a story about the kid that broke the copyright code to allow people to start burning dvd's. He has now broken the ipod code to allow people to play itunes on other mp3 players and vice versa. He's apparently got some legal hoops to jump through but they say it should legal soon. I got DVD Shrink to work, but then couldn't get the backup onto a disc. But having said that...the copy plays FINE on my computer. The original DOES NOT...it seems to jump and skip? Um...am I doing something wrong? |
But CloneDVD actually got me a copied DVD. HOWEVER...it took all afternoon to do one DVD? Is this NORMAL? Somehow I thought copying DVD's was simpler than this. |
