Run
Comments: Really not much to comment on this time. I started near the front but not in the front row as there were definitely a lot faster people than me there, plus I was still getting over whatever cold it is that I have. Gun goes off, I try to settle in a groove quickly and get out of the mess and get some clear running room. First mile clicks off at 5:59 and I'm feeling a little tired already. Tried to stay consistent as you continue with a slight uphill through mile 2 and 3. Mile 2 came at 6:07 and the tired feeling was stronger. 3 was at 6:18 or so. The next mile wraps around the lake at Druid Hill Park and is basically flat but was windy and cold. I was definitely falling off and started to get passed by a lot more people here. Mile 4 came at 6:24 .... worst of the race. At 4 I knew that if I ran sub-6:40 I'd get my goal time of 31:30. Was getting passed by more people here, but pushed on. Last 1/3 of a mile or so is downhill. Tried to not let anyone pass me and with a final push was able to get one spot back. Not a bad kick all things considering and I didn't sprint all out, so I had another gear or two if someone cam up on me (no one did). What would you do differently?: Not be sick, pace a little more consistently. Post race
Warm down: Sat down, took off chip and returned it, walked over to post-race area and got some soup, Gatorade and an orange. Waited for results but figured I was barely top 100, so took off before they came out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being sick, long season, marathon three weeks ago. Event comments: Great race to run, but not that great of a race for me in my eyes. I really think I underperformed in this one all things considered. Even though I beat last year's time by over 2-1/2 minutes, beat my goal time by over 20 seconds and set a new PR by about 30 seconds I really think I could have gone faster. I was surprised that I got 50th overall though. This was a really strong field, so that ain't bad. Last updated: 2006-12-16 12:00 AM

Woke up at 6:00 .... got out of bed at 6:45 and rushed on the clothes, took the dog out, rushed out the house and drove to Baltimore to get my chip and race.
Two mile warm up on the course, checked out the competition - there were a LOT of fasties there as it was the final race of a series and drew out the best local runners, stretched, drank a Vitamin Water and took a Gu.
