its still too cold, but i wanted to put the idea out. i think it was april when we did the open water swim at fort snelling. does that sound right, roger?

anyway, fort snelling a nice place to do a mock tri, practice transitions, etc. depnding on when we do it the water will either be COLD...or weedy. again, good practice! i was thinking we could follow it with a potluck picnic and mimosas. hee hee. i'm thinking we should do this prior to buffalo, since so many of us are racing there.

what weekends in april and may would work?

april 28th-29th is out for many since that's the weekend of the ken woods road race, ironcrotch, and ironman rides. i'm not even adding that one as an option.

may 20th might not work for us since e's bday party will likley be that day...or the 19th...but i could probably swing one or the other. please mark any weekend that would work, so that we can have an A choice, and a B choice as a back up if the weather ends not cooperating.

cinco de mayo might be cool and we could start an annual tradition of a BT mock tri followed by mexican themed foods and mimosas.

yet another reason not to do it that weekend. i can't change the poll now, but i can say

NO ONE VOTE FOR MAY 19 or 20th! hee hee.

i wonder if i could have ella's party on the 19th and race on the 20th. hmmmmmm.

I voted for May 12-13 simply because it give the water the most possible time to warm up.

I'm not sure if anyone on this site is planning on doing the New Prague half, but it is on May 12th.  No way you will be able to get a perfect date for everyone, but this sure does sound fun.

May 12 is also the Oakdale Du. I've heard it may not be the best-organized event, but it was nearly free to sign up before New Years, and I am using it to try to drag at least one swim-fearing friend into the community.

No way there is a good date for everyone, as previously mentioned.

pick your battles. the warmer it is, the more weeds. there were LOTS of weeds last year, and that was early may.

if that weekend works for most, we could have it on the 13th. if folks are up for it after oakdale or the 1/2 marathon, they could still come do it. distances will be SHORT.

my husband and i have done oakdale as a team the last two years. i like randy's races. unorganized maybe, but always down to earth and fun.

I'd love May 12-13.  The rest of the weekends suck for me as I have lots of traveling for work and my singing gigs in the second half of April and the first weekend of May.  The weekend of the 19th I'm out of town, too.

If you want something a little more weed free, we could consider Lake Calhoun.  There's a zillion options for a bike course from there and the running path is exactly 5K.  I'd be happy to help organize, too.

I am out of town on May 5th weekend, so I am also hoping for the next weekend if possible.

Umm... how cold will this be in May? Seems kind of crazy I agree that Lake Calhoun is excellent for this kind of thing. And I bet I could find someone to come along willing to watch our stuff (and take pictures of course)...

let's plan tentatively for may 13th. that way some of the other folks who are racing on the 12th can make it.

i'm open to doing it where ever there is decent water, and a ped/bike path...and a place we could set up our transition area.

This sounds like it would be a lot of fun.  I've got it down on my calender for the 13th.  If this date holds I really look forward to seeing a lot of you there.

it wasn't the weeds, it was that green slime that was a lot warmer than the rest of the water.

and don't forget the fish!

I confirmed with Bob that he would police the transition area. If we went to Calhoun, I would be happy to put together a bike route. What distance? Normal like 13 miles or shorter?

Oh, and the places we can go to have brunch after in the area! So many choices, so little time.

that would be awesome.

i'm thinking SHORT...like <10 miles. mini-sprint distances. this is just to practice, get in the OW, etc.

and i'll still be paying off my loring pasta bar bill in may

(ps. my friend sonja said we should not have given him the 20%, even if it was on the bill. she's a server at the good earth and was shocked by our lack of service and a 20% gratuity for buffet and bad service. live and learn! at least the chocolate bombs and mimosas and company were all good!)

The 13th works for me. The following weekend is the Gear West Du. I am sure my wife would come with our dog and watch us swim/keep an eye on the bikes/derobbed wetsuits. (of course now that I am married, I know i have to ask her first, but it should be okay!)

So what's up everyone?  Are we going to be able to run this thing May 13th?  Who would be able to make it?  I think this would be a great time and a good opportunity to meet everyone.  I know it's early but I think I can commit for sure.  Kelly has the New Prague half the day before, but could hopefully be there also.

Yes, I am also in for sure. And I confirmed Bob could help, if we went forward with the Lake Calhoun area idea.

O.K. guys...am I missing something?  May 13th is Mother's Day.  M-Day is a BIG day at the Parco house...

Not in, for reasons I don't need to explain...   How's that for party pooper?

Someone needs to mention this post to my wife (cindymn).  I need points.  I have a wetsuit and tri frame I need to buy this year...

Nice catch. I can't imagine that flying very far at my place either. Would have made for a nice weekend, though, Oakdale Du on Saturday and this on Sunday.

Guess I need to consider putting a few non-tri events on my training calendar...

I'll be doing the New Prague 1/2 that weekend (if I can find a sitter), so that would eliminate me from joining y'all. But if it helps any I can drink my mimosa at home and look for the online results

[hijack]Joe, I'm still considering doing the New Prague Half this year despite the fact I'll be doing Fargo Marathon the following Saturday.  I just need to run it S.L.O.W. and treat it like a training run.[/hijack]

I guess we should start a new thread...
