I have definitely noticed that weight training really helps me with the weight loss. Anyone else have any patterns they have noticed in their weight loss process? |

Extreme Veteran 549 Cotati, CA | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in How utterly f-ing depressing.... Last week: 192.4 This week: 193.2 I have been training, I have been logging food, I have been careful and I gain. Now granted my diet hasn't been stellar but it has been awful either. Looking at Jill's entry, I have to acknowledge that I haven't been doing any strength training and only concentrating on cardio. Can't imagine taking more time to work out but obviously I don't have much choice. I do know that work has been major stressful the last week and maybe that has something to do with it....it is all a little tough....started this challenge at 195.4 back in November, got below 190 and have bounced back....story of my life. Bank the week and move on. Stay focused and continue to make good choices. Maybe try to get into the gym this week and lift. Maybe start meditating in the mornings. |

Master 2051 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in Oh. My. GAWD. Today's weight: 154 effing pounds. That's 2 pounds more than when I started this challenge!!!! My diet is a big reason why I've gained. Because I was sick we ate out a LOT last week. Not fast food but PGCG would run to Applebees or Red Robin for take out. Oh and Chinese and Thai. Plus I was not working out. *sigh* Plan of action:

Jim, Are you eating late in the evenings? That is one big thing I cut out. I eat a big breakfast and small snacks throughout the day. I definitely get LOTS of calories, but I seem to be offsetting it with the workouts. Plus, I really have found that the strength training has helped a TON! I do some hand weights at home and other things like crunches, push ups, core stuff on the big ball and squats. I often watch TV while doing it so it doesn't feel like I am adding more work out time to my schedule, even though I am. I was reading a journal entry I had last September when I was at about 178 lbs. My goal was to get to 165 and I mentioned how that was a weight I could definitely be happy with. I think I am happy at 165, but now working to get a bit lower. At 5'10", 165 is a pretty average weight for me but I want to try to get to 158 or 159. I know it can be super challenging and don't forget that you are learning about your weight by logging your food and you are taking care of your body by exercising. Try changing up a few other things in your rountine and see if that helps. Don't feel like you have to deprive yourself to lose weight. Good luck!

OK, the weight is up, and that is frustrating, but I'm trying to focus on the BF%, which is generally edging downward. I'm more concerned with that anyway. I'm pretty sure that as my training volume continues to increase, the BF (and therefore weight) will drop more and more rapidly. I have been steadily increasing biking (trainer intervals and long easy spins) and running. Tomorrow, I'm running a 5K and attempting to achieve two goals at once. wish me luck I have added some upper-body strength training right before my trainer rides. It's only been two sessions, and I'm still trying to figure out the appropriate amount of weight, but I think that will help with the fat loss also. I have also noticed that the week I posted some of my best results was the week I was logging all my food, and this past week--when I did not log--did not show such good results even though it felt I was eating about the same. It is interesting that the one thing I know I have NOT been drinking is tea. I've heard that tea is good for fat loss, and my results are apparently bearing that out. I guess it's back to logging food and drinking tea; we'll see what happens next week. Oh well, it is what it is. Onward.

Member 63 Portland Oregon | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in Okay first weigh in.... Starting weight 166.00 2-21-07 166.5 But, I will have to say that being alone here in Ohio with very little workout partners has been hard. I just got off work and sat down at my computer to log my weight in, and as I read all of your entries I started lacing up my shoes and through on my heart rate monitor.. Thanks for the motivation everyone!! |

122 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in Back up to 149. I am moving the wrong direction!!! Nevertheless I have had a strong couple of days, and I refuse to let this terrible news get me down. Although it got me down long enough that I didn't post until now. I have had a few great workouts, and I have imposed new dietary restrictions for lent (even though I am Jewish, it sounded like a good idea hope no good Catholics are offended). I am giving up all unhealthy sweets, fried foods, and alcohol except wine. I think that should get me back on track. i will be logging every day so feel free to keep me on track. |

20 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in "Anyone else have any patterns they have noticed in their weight loss process?" I'm an awful bed-time snacker and I've noticed on what few occasions I have been able to exercise some small modicum of self-control and manage not to stuff my face with crackers and cheese before I hit the sack are the days when my weight drops the most. That being said, it happens very rarely. Usually just on Tuesday nights. Edited by Journo 2007-02-21 4:56 PM |

Extreme Veteran 684 Highlands Ranch, CO | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in Seems like a lot of us are having a bad week. Must be something in the air. Don't worry about it, because worry causes stress, and stress causes the body to retain fat. FYI: Chocolate is derived from cacao beans. Bean = vegetable. Sugar is derived from either sugar CANE or sugar BEETS. Both are plants, which places them in the vegetable category. Thus, chocolate is a vegetable. |

I didn't know about late night eating...which I do A LOT. So, I'm gonna give that a try for a bit. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their day! |

123 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in AACK!!! Hi Jim and everyone! I am sorry I bailed on the last challenge. things got entirely too crazy for me, but now I am trying to get myself back together. On the plus side of things...when I began the first winter challenge my starting weight was 149ish and today I weighed in at 142.5. (on the plus plus side, last year at this time I was around 160lbs) So, could 142.5 be my new starting weight for this challenge? How long do we have? Depending on how long we have I want my goal to be somewhere between 130-135. Thanks!!! ps- Jim I LOVE your "Angry Beavers" avatar. Is that Dagwood or Norbert? I can't remember! |

Extreme Veteran 549 Cotati, CA | Subject: RE: Team Skinny 2 - Feb 21 weigh-in That is correct...we are going with the Winter Challenge until 3/21 and then I plan to lead the Spring Season Challenge until the Solstice (June something). I figure I am going to just keep going since I figure (like Jill) when I get to where I want to be it will all be about maintenance. So everybody who wants to play can play and stay as long as one needs to stay....it's obvious I am going to be here. |
