Subject: RE: Clothing strategy for DuathlonsI think it all depends on what you can run in and what your butt is made out of.  Through experimentation I have discovered I can run in thinner pad bike shorts, tri shorts and compression shorts.  I cannot run with a gel or thicker camy.  I can bike with compression shorts and it has not bothered me to much.  It depends on the length of the ride.  I could probably do up to 20 miles wearing compression shorts. So in answer to your question.  I definitely think you should wear pants. I don't usually wear socks when cycling. I would wear a top.  To keep the sun off my back and to avoid all the pointing, staring and general looks of horror.  Me running without a shirt could also be called "Clothing Tragedy for Duathons". Shoes would be helpful, especially in the run.  I heard about a guy who ran the Chicago Marathon last year barefoot!  Yikes! Definitely wear a helmet.  Especially in the bike part.  I have seen people wear their helmet through the run.  I think they also had a drool cup hanging under the chin.    Wear whatever and live and learn.  That's how I did it. |
