The REAL basketball season ended last month...unfortunately the Tar Holes took the title but that's cool cause the entire team jumped ship for the NBA so they'll have NOTHING next year

Go Duke!!!

Uh-oh! We have a Dukie amongst us! My BF went to Duke, so I'm a big fan of Coach K and the boys as well. I have to agree with you Joel! Although I still have a soft spot for the NBA (some parts of it, anyway.)

PUKE ON DUKE!!!

So umm.....can someone outline this, (I really did read the thread, sorry for not being swift). Is it the total distance that wins, or is it the ability to reach our goals? The latter seeming more inline with what we are all about here. Also, I see we have some lifetime swimmers, coaches and the like making awesome (bravo) commitments. I will bravely submit that though my distances are measly, and my times behind a snails pace...having not been able to swim one length two years ago, I think my feats are comparable!!

Nikki - Yes, this challenge is all about hitting your own personal goal and does not hinge on total distance. We've thrown in a little competitive spirit between the guys and gals to make things a little more interesting, though.

We've structured the rules so that we take every individual team member's percentage of their goal (can be either over or under 100%) and average it out for the whole team (dropping the highest and lowest) This way, novice swimmers and lifelong swimmers can contribute equally to their team.

Best of luck to you and hopefully this challenge will motivate you in the pool as its already motivated so many others.

Chances are pretty good I won't hit my yardage goals - BUT - I think this should be based on who gets closest or who achieves thier goal. I am more about aiming high and maybe missing the mark by a bit then setting an easy goal and hitting it.

So - to answer your question - I think its more about the ability to reach your goals - not yardage.

My $.02

Nikki, it's about %age of goal reached. That levels the playing field for beginning and lifelong swimmers. If you pledge 50,000 yards and swim 50,000 it carries the same weight as the person who pledges 6,000 yards and swims 6,000 yards.

jeubank - 2005-05-04 5:01 PM Boys, boys, boys…are new avatars all you are interested in? Here, let me show you what you are up against with my new avatar—I know I won’t have to change mine in a month, so I am going to let her stand (or actually, swim). Not that I am trying to intimidate you, but, good luck--you are certainly going to need it.

Intimidation....no. Inspiration....Absolutely. Jenn I changed my Avatar just for you. Say hello to Bruce, my new aquatic alter ego. :-) Happy laps!

Dear Team Chyck,

May I join you? If so, put me down for 25K for the month of May.

Also, I hope this isn't a deal breaker, but I use a log provided by my coach. Could I just PM Renee with my weekly totals? *small voice* I don't really kow how to use the BT logs.

Sweet! Now I am really shakin' in my boots... I am guessing you need to do more than the measly 3120 yards to make me nervous...unless your goal is say 5000 (if so, you're almost there!)...

Hehehehehe....It's all about the %'s am I right? My goal is 20k, my biggest month ever was probably around 10-12k. That's what makes this so cool. Last year I couldn't swim 50 yards, and now I'm having mermaid for supper! :-) Don't look back, that's just ol' Brucie checking out the goods...

Alright, this sounds like fun! Do yards already logged in May count? Assuming that we are talking about total May yards, put me down for 30k - this is a personal high yardage, but I am swim focused this month, since I am doing the swim for a relay team in June.

Come on guys, don't make me have to figure out how to put an avatar in here!

Mermaid for supper? Baby, you gots to catch me first...and seeing as I am nearly a quarter way to my goal now and it seems you are still thinking about getting your tootsie wet I am not sweating anything... I'll see you at the finish line--

Ladies of Team Chyck ... while eye candy can be a nice treat (male or otherwise depending on your persuasion). The point is to WIN. To demolish the opposition. To feel swimmingly superior to the male contestants! To giggle at the darling men for their attempt to compete with the women.

The losers are not only to post a new avatar with their speedos (or jammers), they are supposed to change their signature. Here's the poem I propose that the men use when we emasculate them in the swimming challenge:

Beaten by the Buttercups

Couldn’t get my yardage up.

I need to spend more time in pool.

Man, the truth is women rule!

Followed by list of Team Chyck teammembers.

Chicks talk smack to boys
But swim like rocks. Swim Suit Pics!!
Chicks, Please shave back-hair

Final roster update is complete.  The boys currently have 48 team members for a total of 1,229,950m/y and an average goal of ~26k.  The ladies have 33 team members for a total of 680,000m/y and an average goal of ~21k.

Everyone please make sure that I have your info correct and send me a PM if something needs to be changed.  Only if it is wrong...you can no longer "revise" your goal...now you're stuck with it so get in the pool and swim!
