I'm been looking at this for months and I think I'm ready to pull the trigger. But had a couple of questions? Where did you buy your P90X? Do you have/need all the additional stuff bands/pull-up device, etc, How long are the typical workouts? Lastly, our you following the nutrition plan or winging it? Thanks for the input! -Steve
Steve,
I'm a BeachBody "coach"
(I detest the term, but that's what they call us
) - sort of like your Avon lady for all things Beachbody.

Beachbody distributes in two ways only - one is direct through their site, so you can simply go to beachbody.com and purchase there. The second is through a coach, like myself. A coach offers discount shipping
(so you'll pay a bit less going this route
) and a dedicated helper for you as you work the program. I can offer as much or as little help/interaction as you'd like. I've been doing the X for 4 years now, and am also
(obviously
) into triathlon, so can help with the integration of the two.
As far as necessary equipment - you need a fairly minimal investment: 1
) either a selection of dumbbells
(or adjustable dumbbells like Powerblocks or SelectTechs
) or a selection of bands. I personally prefer dumbbells but plenty of people
(some here in this thread
) use the bands and love them, 2
) a pull up bar or a single heavy band for pull downs for pull-up substitute, 3
) a yoga mat. That's about it.
I started with the heaviest band and did pull downs instead of pull-ups and that works GREAT - there is someone in EVERY strength workout using bands exclusively, so you won't feel like you are cheating or doing something different than anyone else. I then really wanted to try to work up to pull-ups and eventually got the Perfect Pull Up at Target - it's a nice little bar for a doorway.
The strength workouts, which you do 3x/week are between 45min - 55min. The ab routine, done on the same day
(ideally
) as the strength workout is 15min. I usually did it immediately following the strength workout, but you can of course do it anytime. The cardio workouts are a similar length, and the yoga workout is 90min.
On the nutrition side, for my first round I did do the phased nutrition plan - I did my own thing, using the nutrition guide as a guide
(the included materials are EXCELLENT, btw - very informative
), but followed it fairly closely. This was actually really informative for me - I felt like I learned a lot. It's not anything crazy - it's not a "diet" - it promotes eating real, wholesome, nutritious food. They push their recovery formula and protein bars, which are top notch and useful if you feel you need that convenience, but that is not the basis of the plan at all.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
