Lauren,
The last 70.3 I did (Texas) the waves lasted for 80 minutes.  I was wave 9 and didn't start until 7:40 (every 5 minutes).  I think there were 16 waves and about 1500 racers.  Not sure how may are registered for the 'Cuse race but odds are that wave starts will go on much longer than 30 minutes.

Yeah, the last 70.3 I did had about 80 mins of waves too. Someone had mentioned 7:30ish for the last wave, so I wasn't sure if they had heard something. This race isn't sold out (AFAIK as I know some people who registered recently)...and I haven't looked to see how many people are registered. I will say, though, closing the food tent at 2:30 is just mean if the if the waves do go on until 8:20 or so. You would have to finish in 6 hrs to make the food tent.

Hey all, I am very motivated by food and drink so I'd love to go to Spaghetti Warehouse, too.  I'm brining Arrogant_Bastard (Jon, my husband).  We've invited athletes from the Broome County Triathlon Club to meet us there at 6:30pm because one athlete is looking for a church to attend mass that night.  If she doesn't do the church thing then we'll definitely be able to do a 5:30pm dinner.

For swimming, I'd love to meet up with BT folks for a swim.  We'll be there early because husband wants to check out the expo and stuff early.

Swim waves are up:
http://ironmansyracuse.com/2010IMSYHSwimWaves.pdf

Looks like some people are going to have a *long* wait, last waves go off at 8:20am.  Out of curiosity, are they doing a rolling 8 hour limit for cutoffs, or are the later waves going to technically have a 6:40 (or 7h, etc.) cutoff?

8 hours from the last wave I believe I read in the guide.

I emailed about spectator information- how to watch start and finish, road and lane closures, parking, etc. Here is the response:

"Thank you for your email. We will not be posting any of that information. Please attend the race briefing for more spectator information"

Honestly I think they're still trying to figure all of that out.

Oh wow, thanks. I was planning on skipping the race briefing, but I guess I have to go now so I can tell my fam how to spectate.

I'm in the same wave, Bob.  Good news... less people that will be swimming over the top of me.  Bad news... more time to sit around and stress about the race.

i hope everyone's enjoying their taper week.  I've found that tapering is one of the strongest disciplines of my triathlon training!

I am kind of freaking out about my wetsuit situation. The wetsuit I've worn for 5 years just doesn't seem to fit anymore. None of my races this season were wetsuit legal so I haven't had to wear it. I did soak it in water about 4 or 5 times. After several failed attemps (days, weeks apart) to get it on, I finally managed last week. It only took 30 mins, but even then, the bottom half wasn't on high enough -- tough to walk. I went to the store and tried some on -- same problem, one size I couldn't get on, next size up was too big. So, I decided to rent one. I got it Friday and I fear it's too large. It doesn't fit snug around my wrists, and if I try to pull the sleeves up (so the ends are higher up on my arms, where I am thicker and it may be snug), I have too much extra material at the shoulders. I can also pull the material like 3-4" away from my body in the stomach. So, I am thinking it's too big. Not sure what to do now. I've been trying to contact wetsuitrental.com since they opened two hours ago, but haven't heard anything. I did leave a voicemail and sent an email, so I hope to hear soon and maybe they can overnight me another one. My fear is that if I go with the wetsuit I rented, it will be too big and slow me down; but if I go with my wetsuit, I may not be able to get it on before the race (and it will tire me out!). Ugh....

Did you use Body Glide when you were putting your suit on?

Sounds more like a weird sizing issue (like you're between sizes somehow). When are you leaving for Syracuse? Also, aren't there usually wetsuit rental options at the race? If there are wetsuit vendors/renters there, you might be able to rent one on Saturday...

Yes, I used Body Glide. It was a little tough to get on last season, but I am not any bigger/heavier than last year.

Tell me about it. My upper legs and but are big for my body size. Ugh. The funny thing is that most sizing charts (I looked at a bunch of different brands online) have me in a large for my height and weight. Yet, I bought a pair of women's dress pants yesterday...and they were a size 2!  It's just this big booty of mine! Grr.

That's strange.  Where have you been storing it?  Did you leave it out in direct sunlight?  In a hot or cold area?  Those could lead to it shrinking...

No, just on a shelf in the closet in one of the bedrooms in my house. I haven't used it since last June, and I know they tend to "shrink" when not used for a while. They're kind of like a sponge, the drier they get, the more they "shrivel" up. But, I did soak it in water a handful of times prior to attempting to put it on. The wetsuit is also 5 years old, so the material probably isn't quite as "pliable" as what you may see in some newer suits.
