I can't find if this was discussed already, but does anyone know how often there will be water stations along the run route? I couldn't seem to find that anywhere on the website. Thanks!

Last year I thought they'd be every mile but they were a little more spaced out than that, from what I remember.

Hello all, I am new to this board but I am a native Augustan and will be doing the ESI 70.3.  There is a group of us swimming the river on Wednesday (9/08) at 6:30.  We start with an upstream swim to the 5th street bridge then do the entire 1.2 course.  We will have two kayakers with us tomorrow.

The water is fine.  The bacteria was found on the banks and is not in the main swimming area.  We have been swimming the course once a week and have not had any issues.

i'll be interested to hear what your times are like vs. your times in the pool. let us know how that current is treating you on that swim, and tell whoever is in charge to turn it up to full power for race weekend so we can have some fast times.

Last week, the current was not moving very quickly and I swam it in 28:17 without pushing it.  It usually takes me 35 minutes to swim a mile in the pool...wetsuit + current = fast times! I fully expect to have a swim closer to 25 minutes on race day.

soccerphan, that is what im talking about, i like the thought of mid to low 20's on the swim.

cube, we'll see, i met a guy here in tampa who is friends with phatknot, and he said hes an animal....i'd like to have it come down to a sprint finish, but that means i need a lieto-esque lead going into the run. it'll be nice to worry about someone kicking my tail though, it makes you work harder. phatknot, if you're reading this, lets try to get together sometime prior to the race to say hello.

Thanks CUBE. I want no parts of JonCT haha. My main goal for this race is to not mess myself up for IMFL in November. If I beat last year's time and get the trophy hip hip hooray but he can have it if it means I risk injury and/or mojo. I am no less of a person if I don't podium clydes.

This is a pretty important point for many of us competitors. Racing is fun and hard. This distance, even on a friendlier course like Augusta, can still beat you down. i learned the hard way in May at GCT.

Don't set yourself up for frustration by setting arbitrary or unrealistic goals. Be kind to yourself, be realistic, and be thankful for the chance to do this thing of ours. If JonCT or whoever beats you, his/her training and/or ability was better on the day. You are still a worthy human being. Learn to compete with yourself to get the best full day you can (not the best swim, best bike, or best run).

Am I going to be the only one without a wetsuit?  I'm definately not trying to win anything here, but i've never swam in one and don't plan to.

The water temp has been about 75 for the last two weeks and it is unlikely to get below 70 come race day. Check this link that gives the flow rate and water temp of the river. The flow has been a little low lately which has allowed the water temp to rise slightly. It is doable without a wetsuit and has been done all summer by some of us even when the temp was 70.

I guess they've resolved to sewage in the river issue with a new "don't tell anybody" policy!
Swim 500 meters than turn right at the bunch of floating TP.
