Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread GoFaster - 2011-09-02 8:58 AM Avoid the buffet - we spent a weekend there and hubby did the prime rib buffet - it's just left over food from earlier and very mayo heavy re salads. He said it was a big mistake!I saw the email for the buffet dinner at Deerhurst, but I'm not sure that's the route I want to take. I'm usually a big fan of buffet, but the night before the race I don't really want the temptation of all that food, especially the deserts. When is everyone planning to get up to Deerhurst anyway? I won't be up until sometime early on Saturday. Plan to register, go for a short swim and short bike (20-25min tops). Can't leave my wife sitting around by herself for too long. |

Extreme Veteran 6066 Montreal, QC | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread OK, I'm starting to think about making reservations for dinner. 3 Guys and a Stove doesn't take reservations for less than 7 people. I am currently in a group of 4 or 5. Anyone want to join? Haha. Probably an early-ish (5:30 or 6pm?) dinner. |

The low is a little LOW at 7c but the water will be warm at least The low is making me start to wonder about clothing on the bike. We're all going to be soaking wet, and I'm wondering what to do. I have a one piece trisuit, so I'm not sure if I should switch over to the 2 piece and leave the top in T1, or perhaps even wear a bike jersey for the ride and then swap into a tri or tank top in T2. I don't want to waste time fumbling with clothes, but I also don't want to freeze on the ride. Decisions, decisions.... |

I have an ugly rainproof windbreaker thing I got as a gift at a run - I was toying with throwing it on - if it gets too hot I can just throw it away. Though I'm thinking the hills will have me warmed up pretty quickly |

I might don some compression calf sleeves for the added layer more than anything

Extreme Veteran 6066 Montreal, QC | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread I'm probably just going to end up with my tri top and shorts. If I were going to do arm warmers, I'd want them on before the swim (they're hard enough to get on dry!), and with them wet, I just think they'd be a hindrance. I may do a bike jersey on over, if it's THAT cold out, but you're right, the hills will get the blood flowing. Also, I carry a lot of crap in my tri top pocket, don't know if I can carry that much in the jersey pockets that I have... I carry 2 water bottles and all my nutrition back there. I think it's just gonna come down to wet me vs. the cold. If it's supposed to get up to 20, I imagine it'd warm up pretty quick, so by about 9:30, you'll probably be warm enough... Maybe that's wishful thinking? |

Elite 3779 Ontario | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread I'd originally just thought arm warmers with the one piece, but I'm playing head games with myself at this point and worried my core will be too chilled. A dry jersey in T1 has some appeal. Those going with the Tri Top - wear it in the swim, or wait till T1? |

A dry jersey in T1 has some appeal. Those going with the Tri Top - wear it in the swim, or wait till T1? Honestly, I can't even imagine trying to put on a tri top in T1... it would take me FOREVER. Or more, depending on which one I decide to wear. as it is, the one without the zip takes me a good minute or so to put on before my workouts! Edited by LockOut 2011-09-07 1:08 PM |

It won't be that bad, it was cool and rainy last year and I can't ever recall feeling cold with a tri top and arm warmers. YMMV though so try it out over the next few days |

YMMV though so try it out over the next few days As you said, last year was cold in the morning (5C) and the rain was also in the table to complicate things. I opted to wear tri shorts and a long sleeve jersey plus arm warmers. I was fine on the bike but on the first 2km of the run I took off the arm warmers. This year, I will go with my tri top, and may be, with arm warmers. I like the fact that the wind will be breeze this Sun. |

Extreme Veteran 378 Acton, Ontario | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread I have only used my arm warmers once in a race this season, and it was a race in April (indoor pool swim, outdoor bike, outdoor run). In order to have arm warmers go on easily: (1) before the race put them on. (2) roll them up as you take them off so that each arm warmer looks like a donut. (3) leave your donuts in transition and after the swim you simply put them on at your wrist and leave them in their donut form. (4) Hop on your bike out of transition and after you are up to speed you can pull each one up your arm and into position. Thats the way I do it anyway. I am heading up to Muskoka this afternoon. I might not get an opportunity to check BT between now and the race. Have a great race everyone! |
