Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread KathyG - 2010-12-31 1:13 PM Happy New Year! Just think just over 10 months until our IM. For many of us it will be our first and others one of many Ironmans. The journey to the start line will be amazing. Hope it is injury free and fun for all of us! It might very well be my last. I've done a non-MDot and this will be my MDot. One and done takes a different meaning when you want to try both types. Then I go back to my HIM races. I'm looking forward to IMFL! |

Veteran 260 Hong Kong | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Congratulations, This is by far the BEST post I've read on this blog. This is the real spirt of a Beginner Triathlete!!!! I am totally identified with your great, objective and honest statement. I wish you the best of luck every morning when that alarm goes off, on every training session and on every sacrifice you make on your way to becoming an IRONMAN! It's not about the destination, is the journey what this whole thing is all about. Hopefully, I will be joining you on Nov 5 across that finish line to hear our names followed by "you are an Ironman" and if that doesn't happen, we will still be proud for our effort! Wish you a great, safe and fun training year, ENJOY it, I think we will remember this chapter of our lives forever. And don't forget to use sunscreen!!! afrutoz - 2011-01-04 1:55 PM I am in...This will be my first and maybe my only full IM. I am looking at staying there but I am worried about the elevators taking a long time if you are on the upper floors. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help. |

I stayed there 2 years and its not a huge problem. You may have to wait a couple minutes a couple times but it was not a consistent issue at all. I think we were on like the 11th floor? 12th? I don't remember but seriously it wasn't an issue |

I don't remember but seriously it wasn't an issue Parking garage goes up to floor 6 maybe 7 but not to higher floors which means you need to park on one floor and take elevator to your floor. We stayed on 5th floor so drive up to our floor and just walk to our condo when we went out. There are 3 sets of elevators and most folks just use one. Most of the condos that are sold are on the far end ie away from expo end. There are many vacant unfinished condos on the closer to expo side. If we were going to expo area, we'd walk in that direction on our floor and take the other less used elevators. I've stayed there 3 years and have over time figured out the fastest way. |

Ali, Love this post. I must say that I am feeling the same way. I'm in the middle of my marathon training and hoping that I can get through this so that in Nov I at least can know that I can gut out the marathon. Running isn't my strong suit. Looking forward to 45 being the best year of my life. Just want to get to the start line healthy and know that all my training will carry me through the finish line. |

New user 9 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread A friend just told me that IM Florida is notorious for people riding in large packs and drafting, even though it's completely illegal. He said that packs are so large that they don't really make an effort to stop it. Is this true? Has anyone who has done or seen Florida experienced this? |

Extreme Veteran 483 St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread IMFL does have a reputation for packs building up, heard rumours of a couple of large packs during the 2010 event, but did not witness them myself. Marshalls were evident on the early course, but not so much towards the end. There were 4 or 5 Penalty tent on the bike course, generally had a few people in them as I rode by. Drafting defintions, infringements & penalties are all clearly outlined in the pre-race brief and are consistent with the other IM events. IMFL 2010 is my only IM to date (repeat in 2011) - I have done STX 70.3 several times, perhaps others may have more objective info. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've done the race 4 times. In 2008, 2009 there were huge packs of people blatantly cheating. I saw MUCH less of that in 2010 and I saw twice as many USAT refs on the course this year, plus they changed the course a lot this year. |

Every once in while, I come across a recap about Jelly fish and Jelly fish stings....How bad is it really going to be with those? I'm from New Mexico and Live in Kansas City, so ocean swims....i'm a little freaked out about JellyFish and Sharks. |

Member 44 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Fantastic post by Ali! Perfect approach and attitude, as the real sacrifice (personally and the family) is the training. To everyone out there doing an IM this year - here's to an injury free, fun filled (yes, it can be) year of training and racing!! |

I don't have to be the fastest swimmer... just as long as I am not the slowest... ...and there are not any bears in the park after dark :-) Who was it that had a wild animal run past them in the State Park this past year? Was it a deer? Or something else? If you have worries about the ocean swim, get some in before race day. I did a 2 mile ocean swim race, did an ocean IM distance Aquabike, went swimming in the ocean in RI 2 weeks before the race in water in the upper 50's. I didn't sign up for IMFL for years as I didn't like ocean swims..really a lot..creepy ocean things..and all that...got in my head. Turns out IMFL '10 I had the best IM swim ever, had fun and all those fears since I faced them and dealt with them prior to the race, were gone, and it was a great experience. The race was so much fun I can't wait to go back this year...hoping I can train consistently and get over this injury I'm dealing with and get my run training in consistently. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Here is an article on USAT website of one of our own 'triplebypat'. I met Patrick at IMFL in '09, saw him again twice in '10 and will be racing or 'participating' with him at IMFL '11. I do recall the BT lunch the day before the Lonestar 70.3 after sprint swim was canceled that he was going to try to register for the 70.3 the next day. |
