Veteran 267 Peoria Heights | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED Thoughts while running: Saw a beautiful light blue two story house with an A-frame roof, icicles hanging from the sides like tinsel on a tree, a huge evergreen with piles of white snow weighing down the lower bows like scalloped lace on a green apron. Ran by a fenced in yard with little tykes toys everywhere, wondering if in the spring and summer I will see the little kids playing in the yard. A faded old front porch with a bike and a porch swing on it. These were the things on my run route that I noticed especially today. They helped keep me motivated for the 2nd half of the run because I knew they were coming up again. Just thought I would share part of today's journey. |

Could the water REALLY be that cold in July? Are you suggesting a wet suit? Oh, and we'll have to hook up at the race Nope, not foolin around. And just because the water temp is near 70 one day doesn't mean it will be that way the next. And YES! I would highly recommend a suit. Almost everyone in that race wears one although there were a handful of brave (crazy) souls that did not. I also have booties and a neoprene cap. (But I am a complete cold water wimp) But even so, 55 is f***ing cold. Better to be prepared. |

I got off work early today and really just wanted to veg out and maybe get some gaming time in (running really interferes with my WoW time), but because I posted this morning in my blog that I was going to run after work I didn't want to admit I skipped a workout to sit on my butt playing on the computer. Once I got out there was totally happy I did. I see now what the "Gmr" in your user name stand for!! I'm more of an FPS player. Gears of War or COD Black Ops is all I every play when I can. |

New user 31 USA | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED reid15 - 2010-12-27 4:43 PM I was thinking about getting some weight training/core work in this winter and was wondering if has any experience with personal trainers? I've never been big on weights and thought it might be good to work with someone short term (4-8 weeks) just to get started and make sure I'm doing things right. What do you think? I think weight training will only enhance your performance, I don't think anyone is going to argue that having a strong core doesn't translate into being a better all around athlete. Be careful when choosing a Trainer, after all you are entrusting your body to this person. You want a trainer that is attentive to your needs, knowledgeable in their field of expertise and one that is compatible with your personality. I wish you well on whatever you decide and good luck as you strive to reach your fitness goals. |

Extreme Veteran 1700 Normal, Ill. | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED A great group of accomplished and accomplishing people. Glad to be a part of it. IT band held up for a rough Computrainer ride last night. 90 mins including 15 min warm up, 40 mins at 85% (255 watts), 5 mins rest and 15 mins at 90%. The course had two long climbs with grades reaching 10%. That was fine on the 40 min interval, helped to hold the power up but then when I needed a climb to get the 300 watts, I was on a downgrade straightaway. I just did not have the legs or the top gear for 100% at 100 rpm. Good news is although I had a pain in my left leg at the computer later, I think it was in my hip radiating down and not my IT. It left when I moved to a softer chair and it completely gone now. Also, I tried the Yoga for Cyclists DVD for the first time after the ride. It is designed as a stretch for after a ride. Good stuff. Easy to follow, well explained. Y'all have a great day. Ice |

Elite 4583 | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED Good morning McFuzzies! Hope all have outstanding workouts today! After coming off 4 days of two-a-day Insanity workouts I will be taking a bit of a break...heading into Salt Lake City to watch my oldest daughter's last day of softball camp and then staying overnight as she has a tournament tomorrow as well. Starting to feel really anxious to start my HIM training on Jan 1...is this normal? I don't recall feeling so nervous before starting a marathon program. I think part of it is knowing how organized I'll have to be with home life, school life, etc. I am looking forward to the structure, however, after having no structure at all for the last couple of weeks. Oh, and good news: after living in workout clothes and sweats for the last several days and eating Christmas candy for breakfast on a daily bases, my skinny jeans still fit just fine...whewwwww! Have a grand day everyone! |

Jan 3rd a bunch of the beachbody.com people are starting P90x/Insanity 2 - a - days. NUTTY! But I need the strength so I might just give it a go. Swam for the first time in @8 years this morning! The sunrise was incredible and the pool was nice and warm. Only 8 laps, but I am a beginner. This is BEGINNER triathlete... yes? can't wait to graduate... Good going on the skinny jeans! YAY! |

That's what I have to tell myself when I'm lying in bed contemplating being a lazy bum. Think how good you'll feel when you're done. I think I'm also nervous because I have a little doubt that I can stick to my training for 4 whole months! Can you stick to it for a day? Then a week? How about we wait for 4 months until May, and you look back at the first 4 months of the year? It can be hard, but even as a mom and wife, you need to find a little time to invest in yourself, even if it's only 20 or 30 minutes a day. |

Look at the reasons you missed it and then start again tomorrow. With this being completely new to me, I have had to make some adjustments to balance everything. The training is just a guide, make the adjustments needed to make it work for you. |

Expert 1007 Missouri | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED Iceman (makes me think “Top Gun”) – Could I get you to talk to my son? At 20 he of course, thinks he’s invincible. When we found out he had starting smoking he told us he would quit. Turns out he didn’t – he’s away at school most of the time so it’s hard for us to know. He knows we don’t approve and keeps saying he’ll quit but we have our doubts. His attitude is “it won’t happen to me”. n3dinc – congrats on signing up! I started with the “what have I done?” about 10 weeks before my first tri. But by race day I was more than ready and you will be too. Shawn – we were at the same race in Carlyle. I actually did wear earplugs that day because I’d heard that cold water could cause dizziness. Seemed to help me – I may have been slow getting out of the water, but no dizziness. Zee744 and corncub – hope you’re feeling better soon. Well, you would think that having almost 2 weeks off work would leave me plenty of time for training, right? Wrong! I haven’t been able to get in nearly the workouts that I had planned, but at least I’m getting something in. DH and I spent all day yesterday buying a new car (new to us anyway). Such a long, drawn-out process. I did manage to get in a short run and some strength training last night. And now that the car issue is settled, I can get back to getting in some good workouts. I’ve got a tempo run scheduled for tonight (6-7 miles total) – probably be on the TM since it’s cold and rainy here today. |

Extreme Veteran 396 Eastern Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: McFuzz's Mentor Group 2011 - CLOSED Thanks everybody for the feedback on the personal trainer. I belong to a local rec center that has a few part time trainers on staff. Since I'm really not planning on working with someone long term right now, what is the best way to find someone without making it a long, drawn out process? I agree that finding "good" trainer is important, just not sure the best way to get that done. Thanks, Art |
