No races for me until early July.  Due to an injury and I'am 11 weeks out from that race  (Muncie, In.).  This will also be my wife's first race.

Folks,

If you fill out the basic info in the "Calorie Expenditure" under Settings --> Training Log Settings --> Log Defaults you will find in your daily logs you estimated calorie requirements with a breakdown of calories from lifestyle and activities.  The data does not show up until you add info into you daily log.  If you don't have workout that day and want to see it you can go into the log (no data required) then save it, then you will see it.

Ooooh thanks!  I didn't know that!  I just turn those settings on.... It'll be interesting to see what numbers it comes up with!

On my end, an unabashed brag post.  8,000 yards of pool work so far this week.  Hit the pool today and finished with 4x500 on 8:00.  Laid down 6:54, :58, :59, :58.  Pretty darn stoked about those times and being able to hold them through the last set.  Three hard weeks to go until taper time.

Shoulders are just about to fall off, but it was worth it.

So, does anyone have any races coming up soon?  We should keep track of those to goad...er...encourage our threadmates here to great performances.  Lots of new faces in here and some reminders of what people are gunning for would be good.

I have had a great year so far - two races.  Mercedes 1/2 Marathon (set a PR by 5 minutes with a 1:35:56) and my first duathlon (1/12 AG).  Next up is the Pensacola 5k (actually 3.275 miles) swim toward the end of May.  Looking to beat the 1:28:21 I managed last year.

I've got a duathon this weekend.

I'll be disappointed in you with anything less than 25mph and over 6 minute miles. ;-)

Great job on the swimming!  My next races are a sprint tri on 5/21 and a 10-mile run on 5/28.

So far my only race of the year was the mardi gras half marathon where I got a PW (personal worst), clocking in a good 17 minutes slower than my half last September.  I guess that's what happens when you sit on the couch all winter nursing a bum hip (err, piriformis)!  But at least I'm glad to be back to running fairly comfortably albeit slowly.  My only goals for next month are to get back into regular training and staying healthy Smile

Next race for me is 8th May!

So far my only race of the season was the sprint last Sunday. Even though I was 7 minutes faster than last year I was still a little disappointed as I missed my goal time by 2 mins. To make matters worse I had to stop to adjust my rear wheel (it managed to come loose and was touching the frame up the steepest hill of the course) and my calf cramped as I got off to sort it out which cost me about 2mins . I guess that makes it a little easier to beat the time next year

So far this year:

10 mile run in January

Half Marathon in March - got a PR

15k local race - was last weekend, and had a good race on a tough course.

First triathlon, May 22.  Memphis in May Olympic.  Figured I would start the year off with a bang.

I still have to fill in the gaps from June to August.

srichards428 - 2011-04-20 4:14 PM Is anybody gonna be singing up for the HIM in Agusta, Ga this fall?  Or does anybody have any experience with this race?  I was just curious about the biking part of this race and if this was a good race for a first HIM.  Any input would be great.

Titeloops has done the race.

I'm signed up for it.

From what I understand, it's a fast swim downstream.  The bike is rolling hills, but nothing too bad.  And the run is a double loop, but not bad.

Yep. That about sums it up. I really liked this race. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I don't have much planned for the year yet.  I have a marathon May 15th, a HM in August, and then MCM in October.  I hope to do a few sprint tris but have not commited yet.  I have a hard time actually commiting to races in the summer because we spend weekends at the beach.

My mom just told me to register for a sprint tri the end of June.  My tri club is in its second year and we are putting on our first sprint tri.  I did not think I would be able to do it because of my kids but my mom said they would take them overnight so I can race it.  My husband will have to work since we start our 10 day vacation at the shore the next day.  My mom watches my kids while I work so I hate asking my parents to help us out on the weekends.  There is another sprint the following weekend the next island over from where our house is at the beach.  I might to that one but I am hesitant because it is a beach run.  Even though we are down so much, I don't do much running on the beach.

I've got Florida 70.3 in a little over 3 weeks.  55 mile ride today with a 3-4 mile run after.  Gotta get the kiddies off to school, then I'm out the door.

I've had a 10mi in Jan and a half marathon in Feb so far.

Next up:
22 May - 5k swim
30 May - Sprint Tri
11 June - Sprint Tri
28 Aug - Olympic Tri
17 Sept - half marathon
30 Oct - full marathon
5 Nov - 10k

I'd love to add a couple more tri's in, but I honestly think with the marathon in Oct, it's going to take quite a bit and I really want to do well there, so that's the "A" race.

Tell me about your bike helmet.

What do you have? Do you have one TT and one training helmet? What do you like/dislike about it?

I received a LG TT helmet for my birthday, yet it doesn't fit. We went to exchange it, and they don't have any of my size. If they order it, we have to pay the normal rate, instead of the "advertised closeout" price we paid originally.

I'm shopping.

Racing helmet is a Limar Chrono.  It is aero and it was on ebay for $60 shipped at one point.  It fits and it seems to work.

I've got a mini-sprint on 5/14 then an oly on 6/4.  Might run a 5k between those two.  After that there's a brand new oly in Vicksburg, MS on 8/27 we'll likely sign up for then I'll end the season with Atomic Man HIM on 9/25.  Haven't registered for Atomic Man yet, probably should to make it official.

There are a few weekends that I'll probably miss training for the next few months.  Hopefully they coincide with recovery weeks.  If not, I may have to do some creative shceduling.

I registered for two races, first is a sprint on June 18 and second will be my first Oly on July 16.  I haven't set my goals yet as I did not perfom as much during the offseason as I expected.  I'll set my goals at end of May.

I was just concerned about the rolling hills part of the bike course.  I planned on doing HIM in Branson, Mo. this year.  So last year I went and volunteered the race to check out the course.  Once, we got there I saw the bike portion and decided to find another race.  The hills were more like mountains...lol.  I was working check in and there were several people that turned there timing chips back in after previewing the bike course.  One of the people that turned there chip in had won there age group at HIM Kansas.

Also where would you recommend staying in Agusta.  I'm looking for a hotel that is close to the race start.

I use a Giro Atoms for training outside.  Very light and big vents.

I've been using a Giro Advantage 2 since 2008 for racing.  It fits close to my back and it has pretty good ventilation.  Pros, it can be bought for dirt cheap.  Cons the ear flaps will rip over time.  This will be my fourth season and the tear is maybe a 1-2 cm.

FWIW, I wore the LG aero helmet at NOLA. !st time I've ever worn an aero. Borrowed from a buddy. I averaged almost 22 mph, into a brutal headwind for over half the race. I WILL be buying an aero helmet. It DOES make you go faster. The other thing was, the wind blowing across the helmet whistled everytime I came out of aero. So it may me stay in the proper position.

@LostSheep, what size is the helmet? Maybe we can make a deal!
