I am thinking about registering for IMTX tomorrow but it doesn't look like I'm going to have enough time to read any race reports.  Does anyone know how it went?  My biggest concern is the heat.  Did we have reports of heat exhaustion?  How was the wind?  Also, how long do we usually have to register online before it closes?

Thanks!!

The bike was superfast today!!  I spoke with someone after the race and he said it was faster than IMFL.  The run had the most wind, but it felt great with all the ice I was dumping on myself.

Yes people were getting medical attention out there, some looked serious.  It was my first, but I thought it was a great race.  If I wanted to be single I would register again in a with no reservations!

Now it is time to go back to the finish to watch some people become an Ironman

The swim was ok. It got a bit crowded in the canal for the MOPers. The bike course was fast. It was cloudy and misty for pretty much the entire ride, which helped! I wouldn't count on that for next time. I also didn't notice a headwind coming in like the forecast predicted and like I faced during training...I averaged pretty much the same thing on the way out and the way back. On the run, the heat was killer...it slowly took its toll on me and eventually fried me. I did IMKY last year, and I'd say the run was just as bad, with the heat and humidity. I felt I would be prepared for the heat, as I did numerous long runs in the heat, but I wasn't...

Good race overall. Volunteers as always were great and make this an even better deal. Swim was good and the best marked buoys I have ever seen, wish they would use this many in the ocean swims.

The bike was dangerous and almost seemed at times like a local benefit ride. Twice at least for me and about 75-100 others we  were stopped to let non emergency traffic pass at mile 10 and around mile 70. Then there were the non Sheriff folks out there controlling cars entering the flow - not a good plan and very scary. Again I've done a few IM and in 4 different countries and i have never seen this kind of disregard. I do not blame the towns or the Sheriff this is all the race directors - if he/she can't set it up or know the course then they need a different job. It looked to me like it surprised the area and traffic folks that the race was taking place.

The run was Great - the crowd and support was the best - finish line was a bit tight but I've seen worse.

We love the area and this looks like a great place to visit and spend time.

So, wasn't going to post in the IMTX race thread directly till after the race due to the minor rivalry w/ the IMCdA thread...

But seriously, I was at the race from 0600-2345 last night from the swim start-thru bike out-run starts-pro finish-then aid station 4 on the run and I had a BLAST! It was awesome to see all of you out there putting it to the race regardless of what it dealt you. I gained a huge amount of inspiration that I've bottled up for IMCdA next month and plan to use for these last few weeks of hard training. Coming back here to TX is truly like going home.  Minus the humidity (which I can get over), I love this state and the people in it SO much that I'm sure I'll make my way back here to live in the future (as Uncle Sam see's fit)!! I really, really miss all of you.  I just might even have to take on this race in a couple of years. Congrats again to all of you!  If you are bored this afternoon/tonight, head over to the Creekside YMCA Outdoor Recreation Center (they have a nice nice building, so all indoors) from 4:30-7PM to say hi to me, OR better-- for Los Cucos fajitas with the likes of Tim O'Donnell (who is bringing his girlfriend---you know, Mirinda Carfrae), some raffle prizes, and some silent auction stuff.

WELL DONE!!!

Congrats to all of you who raced yesterday, I had a great time watching it online (despite all the video problems Ironmanlive was having), tracking some of you on myathlete and just plain getting excited. Great job!

Subsequently, I just registered for next years...first IM! I look forward to getting to know some of you, and picking your brains as I need all the help/tips I can get.

I had the distinct pleasure to support IMTX yesterday with Team RWB at aid station #4 on the run.  I wish there would have been a way to know who you all were as you came by.  The chalk on the course may have been gone but we put out "BT rocks the woods"  and "GO BT" as inspiration for you.  I hope you got to see it and it helped just a bit!

Congratulations to all of you!  It was a tough day out there and you all were just great!

I will be on the course again next year supporting all you crazy folks who are signing up!

Thanks to all of you who volunteered out there, especially at the RWB station.  It was a huge lift every time I got close to that one.

Hey, as we were driving out of our hotel about to leave The Woodlands right around 12:00pm, I saw Ms. Carfrae run in front of my car.  She was running along at a pretty good pace, and sweating profusely.

And I don't know about anyone else, but the bike course proved quite hilly for a guy coming from pancake-flat Louisiana.  Those "mountains" after the National Park were brutal.  That in turn made for an interesting, huge-blister-inducing shuffle/walk.  But . . . at the end of the day, Mike Reilly still called me an Ironman.

I was at IMTX this weekend as an observer.  For those of you who raced IMTX, I have a couple of questions I'd really like to ask;

1. Was there a time in the race, either on the bike or run, when your pace fell off?
2. Can you estimate what time of day that was?

I had the following goals going into the race:

1:10 swim

5:20 bike

4:10 run

My actual results yesterday were:

1:11 swim

5:17 bike

4:47 run

My swim would have been much faster but navigating around all the bodies proved very difficult.  The canal swim was super slow as there was nowhere to go.  It became a lowest common denominator kind of swim for those of us not upfront.

The bike was great.  I even eased back on my watts to save energy for the run as I knew the run was going to be hot and humid.

I was more or less on pace early on the run.  Reality set in for me about mile 5.  Which was probably around 2:30 pm.  I knew I was going to have to ease up and run about 45 seconds or so per mile slower.  Any faster and my HR just went too high.  The first 4-5 miles of each loop were tough.  A lot was uphill and, with the exception of the 1/2 mile section through the woods, there was no shade.  The last 4 miles of each loop were great.
