bdesotell - 2012-09-29 10:19 PM Fred, awesome idea on the group. Still open?? Selfish confession: Did not want to read through 126 pages to find out. Thanks, always appreciate reading your posts and race reports.Brian

Yes, I pm'd Ron to start a version III of this group at Jason's suggestion.

At that point we should all re-intro ourselves (can cut and paste for former members). and discuss our goals over the WINTER.

Fred sound great!  I am in and when its up I'll copy my bio.

btw I would like to post a bike maintenance tip of the week or two if that is ok?

I'd love bike maintenance tips!

Speaking of cemeteries....everyone says how great it is to run through this cemetary. I have lived near it for 4 years and never dared run there. I thought it was disrepectful and it was creepy doing it. What do you guys think ? There are lots of people on mountain bikes on the paths. Very strange.

I haven't done it before, but know people who do.  I would refer to the cemetary management or owners.  If they allow it or don't mind, then I think it's fine.  Ultimately, there are people that paid the cemetary owner to be buried there (it isn't a public park), so if that payment was made assuming that running/biking was not allowed, then you should repect those rules even though there isn't anyone to enforce it.  I am not sure what the policy is on at the cemetary that some of my friends run through.

There is one right by work that I run through at lunch sometimes for my hill workouts. Usually it is only maintenance workers there. If they were having a service I would not but otherwise their are several other runners there.

Fred, I'd be interested in rejoining.  Now that it is winterish (I do live in Arizona after all) I am thinking it is time to get serious about training.  lol  Actually, in a few months or so I should be moving to a normal town so I think this winter I want to get back on the bike, even if that means trainer, and get the runs longer and have some questions and things that I know this group can help with.  And if James is going to post bike maintenance tips...

Yeah, will be a good time to re-focus what we are doing for the winter. It's your job that keeps moving you isnt it?

Actually it is my partners job.  I work from home thankfully cause I would never find jobs in these areas.

I know a few of you guys use TrainerRoad.  I assume that to get anything out of the program you have to have speed working right?  Darn Garmin will give me cadence and not speed.  Don't want to sign up for it if that is necessary until I have resolved that issue I guess

Fred - I would still like to continue to be a part of the group. Haven't had a chance to post much these last few weeks. After IMFL, things should slow down a bit. I'm trying to read as many of the groups posts as possible.

I too think that would be great James - just so long as you don't actually expect us to DO bike maintenance once or twice a week! :p

Kim:  You need the speed/cadence sensor to be working properly.  The power curve is generated from the trainer type and speed produced.  You do not need your Garmin head unit to work though since TR takes that place.  The guys at TR will troubleshoot you very promptly to get you going though.  They are great.

Thanks guys, that is what I thought.  Guess I need to make a call to Garmin to figure out what's up.  It originally started with my 305 but the 910XT is not reading speed either.  I've changed the battery, played with the alignment, pairing it fresh and nothing has worked.  It is weird that I get cadence.  Hopefully Garmin can help me

I would think if the head unit is not picking it up then it is not being transmitting it.  Not necessarily true?

I just started the new thread in the staging area.

Ron will make it live sometime later.

Post (or copy and paste) a bio and then set your WINTER training goals and game ON.

Can't see the staging area (that I know of), but once it goes live I'll definitely be re joining

That's what it sounds like if more than one computer isn't picking it up.  Is it the Garmin speed/cadence sensor that has the little lights on the side that come on and off as the magnet passes by (I think you push a button on it to get it to do that).

Ill be in for winter as well. I'll post everything once the new thread goes live. I got some good workouts in this weekend. I did a 30miler up to a lake near Jasper yesterday. There were some pretty tough long climbs up to it...coming back down was pretty awesome though...and then partied with the ER residents and staff. Really good night...queasy tummy this morning. Haha. It was worth it to get to know some of the key emerg people better...I start 2 weeks in ortho tomorrow. Time for some bones!!!

You got a German Shepherd avatar, you get my vote for entry.  Not that you need it.

We currently have 2 GSD's and raised and trained many more over the years.

Ha!!..we currently have 2 GSD's as well, though one is still a puppy.  How quickly we have forgotten that they chew EVERYTHING. Awesome dogs. These are our 2nd and 3rd GSDs; first one lived with us for 13 years before her time was done.

Now back to our regularly scheduled SBR programming.

Game ON indeed...thanks Fred. Some winter accountability and idea-sharing will do wonders for the motivation.
