3.41W/kg is only considered Moderate on this chart.  Must have to be bionic to achieve excellent or above and have the first name Lance.

And yes, my aerodynamic position does need work.  I have been making small changes to get it better.  When you buy a bike for comfort it makes it a bit harder to squeeze speed out it every lb.

Thanks - more PT questions to come.  Sorry Nicole!

evondo - 2010-03-17 9:10 AM I recommend most power goals should be based on W/kg, these are the two main factors that control your bike speed (assuming aerodynamic position doesnt need work). Here's a table that shows approx of what category your ratio puts you in. For our sport of steady state efforts the only column that really means anything is FT...

I KENOTT swim - 2010-03-17 8:30 AM 25W in 6 months will be my new goal.  I am in the same weight ballpark (190) so I think the goal is realistic.  I can't wait to test my FTP.  I am thinking of using the Galveston ride in two weeks to get the 20 minutes uninterupted - any downside to doing this outside if no lights or traffic get in the way?  Justine promised to pull me back after I blow up.Smile

The chart is for competitive cyclists not triathletes.  I know a few people around BT that are >4W/kg, last year I got to 3.8 at my peak...

I guess 4W/kg becomes the goal then since you are nearly bionic.  At least Aquaman if nothing else superhuman.

I will aim for 3.5W/kg for now.  Must lose weight without losing power.  Must lose weight without losing power.  Can't friggin' wait to get my new toy.  I better buy a headlight!

I'm in for another year... just renewed my USAT membership for the season. Also made the trek to get the wetsuit today. Went with the sleveless. Hoping I'll be able to handle some OWS pretty soon...ready to give it a try!

It's a bacon, egg & cheese kinda morning.  My head feels like it weighs a hundred pounds, and my eyelids only slightly less.  I'm being gently reminded that I'm a lightweight.  St. Patty's Day kicked my a.ss!!

Went to the bike store to get them to build me up the green QR (aka the flying pickle) but my friend told me hell no that bike won't work for me.  Boils down to 2 issues, he said even though the BB area has a lot of support the rear carbon was weak and that's where the flexing comes from since all torque is bottom of rear wheel.  Other issue he said was the rear brake has all sorts of issues and I already have tons of rear brake issues so that'd be a disaster for me.

I was going to put the new bike search to bed since that was the cheapest bike available to me but Betsy said no. So a couple other bikes are in the works now, have to see how the fit goes...

Ken-  Hehe, you can totally ask questions, no need to apologize.  I think that's kinda the whole idea.  Just know that I only really skim all the techincal posts, so if you're going to make some sort of fantastic joke put it in bold or put my name in front of it or something, otherwise I'll probably miss it.

Kelli- YAY for fun St. Patty's Day.  Did you get lucky?  Hahaha, I'm a laugh a minute over here.

As for me, I ended up not feeling great by the end of the day yesterday and by around 7 I was suffering fromt he stomach bug that Chris has had.  Difference is, I still have my tonsils, so with me EVERYTHING starts in my throat.  I feel like someone has taken sandpaper to my throat.  Ouchie.

I took a half day this morning to get the projectile vomiting to stop, but I think my boss thinks I was a party animal last night.  Man oh man I wish.

Anyway, stomach is settled now and Im' prepping for a 3:30 appointment that I've tried to get for over a month and I'm just not willing to cancel.  Hopefully I do'nt puke on her.  That might lose the sale.

YAY!

My wetsuit is a sleeveless one too.  Since most of the races I do are barely wetsuit legal because of the temps down here, it's been perfect for me.

How was the trying on process?  If it was anything like mine, you skipped your workout that day because it was a wokrout in and of itself.

I have decided that Spring is here, no matter what the forcasters say. So I bought new tires and tube for my bike and changed them out last night planning on a ride today after work. Got up this morning and both are mostly flat. The tubes and tires were out of the box last night going onto my rims (newish too).

Bare rims, checked the rim tape, Seated half of the tire, put the partially inflated tube in, seated the other half of the tire and inflated to 120. what am I doing wrong> I checked the boxes and everything codes right for my set up...

Sounds like you're doing it right. You said bare rims/rim tape.. do you have rim tape or bare rims? Need rim tape if you don't have it. When you're putting the last bit of tire in make sure you're not pinching the tube at all, it's pretty common especially if you use the levers...

Best way to know what's wrong is take the flat tube out, pump it up a bit and find the hole and inspect the rim/tire around that spot. The fact it happened to both your tires leads me to believe it's a pinch flat.

I have no idea what you would work on, but I'll guess that your right arm was going a little wide on the pull?

Just a guess but what do I know?????

Today was a big day for me as far as training goes...... Averaged 21.1 mph on a solo training ride, neighborhood, lights, stop signs, and wind but the barrier was finally broken. It was only a 20 mile ride but I was very pleased.
