Ok, I've kicked back a few drinks, so here's what I'm thinking.  I'm in the market for my first tri suit.  Why don't they make one that looks like this?  It's always been a fantasy of mine.  Wink

It's freezing here! Coldest Queensland day since the 1960's yesterday, we're not used to it!!!!

Luckily I'm sick and my wife's gone to Melbourne for the weekend for a friend's 40th so me and the kids are having a movies and pizza weekend.

Hoping to start training again Monday, need to get a 2hr run in for my HM program.

I'm struggling a bit with my offseason training, no real targets, next tri not till October. Any good advice on offseason training???

Ha!! Should have finished my coffee before I saw all of these!

Good luck racers!!

Happily sitting in the COOL part of our country, not envying those with the heat waves. Although some hot days would do wonders for local lakes... Off to swim in mine! Let's hope it goes better than last week!!

While not nearly as exciting as the Wonder Woman outfits ^^^^^.... BTW that last pic is just wrong...

I had a great group ride this morning.  Nice easily paced 2hr, ~40 miles; stayed in Z1&2 for greater than half of it.  Had some headwind (always do in west Texas) and hills to keep it challenging.   Still feeling good afterwards...  I'm cured!  Ha, sorta!

Thanks MG!  The realization that I don't have a very solid aerobic base was a hard pill to swallow, but now I'm headed down the right road.

I can relate to every part of your post.  That last pic is disturbing.  And, I too have to keep reminding myself that I can't keep up with the big kids just yet.  Just finished my long run for the week (5mi.) and knew I would have to go REALLY slow if I was going to make it.  I was shooting for a 12 min/mi pace and finished with 11:48min/mi.  Feel pretty good considering running is probably the weakest of my three weaknesses!  LOL

Later this afternoon I'm going to look at a used wetsuit that's for sale and then attending a transition clinic.  Should be a fun filled day!!!

I have to state that statements like this: "And, I too have to keep reminding myself that I can't keep up with the big kids just yet" bother me a little.

Training and the MG is not a competition. I will never be able to run like Roni, the Lindas, etc. I do not compare myself to them. The MG is here to help you be the best you can be. We all have to climb the same hills in training to get where we want to be. We are all learning from each other here. I know that in a month you will be running at a pace that makes you wonder how you found what you did today hard.

I guess what I am trying to say is stop the negative thoughts, even the implied ones. You CAN reach your goals. Do not doubt it! Here going slow is the best way to get fast.

Well done Brent and Jayne!! Sounds like you're doing great. I agree with Doug that the main point in training is self-improvement rather than catching up with others but I know what you mean, I still haven't done any group rides because everyone is so FAST round here! Even the over 65 group are fast...Embarassed

I haven't had an off season yet as this is my 1st season but my plan is to focus on drill and speed work for running and bike, singe leg drills, getting comfortable at a 90-95 bike cadence. Check to see in my run cadence is at 90 and try to get it there consistently if not. swim masters 2 times a week. The rest of my time will be dedicated to strength training, looking into crossfit, the new P90X MC2, and Krav Maga. My off season will be from September to January as I plan to start training to do Ironman 70.3 St. Croix May 6th 2011. So with all that said my main suggestion is do workouts with a specific goal for Tri related improvement and spend the extra time trying another fitness activity you wanted to do but just dont have time during the season

I think you totally misunderstood my comment.  I'm inspired by people who are faster, stronger and can go further.  My comment was meant as a reality FOR ME, that I can and will improve with time--just like they have done.  Sorry if I offended anyone here on the mg.

GOOD LUCK RACERS!!!

Our brief cold snap seems to have gone, sitting out on the veranda again this evening. We all went to a school netball team pre-Grand Final party at the ice rink today; made you realise what cold really is!!! Came outside and it was 22 deg C so had to swiftly remove a few layers.

Hoping to be able to do my long run in the morning, fingers crossed.... definitely a zone 1/2 run but I'll stop if my HR shoots up or I feel crap still.

I've been reading more Endurance Nation stuff with all my spare, non-exercising time; interesting that they recommend NO SWIMMING for the off season. I can see where they are coming from, I'm usually very slack about swimming over Winter but a couple of weeks back in the pool and I can pass my lifesaving proficiency comfortably. I think I'd miss my pool time though...

Netball?

Perhaps you could blow a little warm weather my way.  It is 37F this morning and wheels are up in 45'.

I can see where the EN mindset might make sense if you are already a decent swimmer.  I totally disagree if you are someone like me.  I can only imagine how ugly that first day in the pool would be.  Any coach system that has one piece of advice for the masses, seems wrong....just my two cents though.

Off to freeze my you know what off!

PS. Racing people, report back asap!

Question. If my midfoot is a little tender after my runs now does that mean I need to get new shoes? I probably have about 200-250 miles on my current shoes cause I ran in them before I started using the BT equipment tracker. My feet were never sore or tender on runs before so I am assuming that's the case, just checking though.
