FlyingTiger - 2009-08-29 3:48 PM For those that missed the swim/ride/run today (Saturday 29 August) or just feel the need to do it all again. A few of us are doing the swim at 7:00 am (Sunday 30 August) followed by the course ride tomorrow. Feel free to join us. Also for those that need a little extra on the ride Bluejack and I are going to add on another 20 or so by going back out to the Jackson post office when we get into Beach Island then coming back.

i'm gonna be out there on the course tomorrow, wheels down from my place on the hill at 7am, so i might run into you all...if not, have a fab swim/ride!

Missed you Saturday morning. We had a big group and based on your logs we could have kept up with you, at least for the bike portion. You're too fast on the run.
Based on your "wheels down" comment are you a pilot, flight attendant or what?

I'm getting a little freaked out here.  I know the race is coming up.  It is my first HIM and I have now come to the realization that even though I have followed my plan on here, I have not put in enough time on the bike (long rides).  I am hoping I may have found my saving grace.  My legs are pretty tired after riding my regular route.  According to my Garmin, it says my elevation gain is over 2700' with 2 13% grades I hit 3 different times.  According to mapmyride, the Augusta course shows an ascent of just under 1000'.  I think the climbing is killing my legs, time, pace, etc.  I don't have any trouble staying aero when I ride other routes for 2.5 hrs + that are flatter, but because of the hills, my back, legs and everything else is just plain worn out at the end.  I am doing this averaging around 17-18 mph.  In the sprint I did (15 miles), on a flatter course, I avged over 21 mph and felt great at the end.  I hope I am thinking correctly.  What are everyone else's thoughts?  My goal is a 3 hour or less bike.  It's not a matter of finishing.  It's a matter of getting to that goal on the bike.  Basically, I am trying to figure out my pacing.  Thanks for helping out a HIM newb - and don't blow any smoke!

Thanks for all the eat/ drink ideas. I think I now have a plan to survive. (70.3 at 210 lbs its going to interesting)

One last question. Has anyone done a video of the bike route and put it on Youtube. I have looked on google maps with the "drop the little man on a street thingy" to get a rough idea of the road. I will most likely drive the route on Saturday but would love to get a better feel for the route.

Thanks

You will have no trouble coming in under 3 hours. I rode the course Saturday, did not push it, had a slow leak flat that took about 10 miles to figure out and did it in 3:03.

I won't tell Katie~   Get rid of that nasty cig pic, just looking at it makes me nauseated lol.....not as scarey as the one testicle phatcat pic though.

My cigar smells way better than it looks and tastes even better. I'll have one waiting for you at the finish.

bummed i missed the ride with y'all, but i decided to sleep in...till 11am.  it was wonderful.  went out and rode it yesterday by myself which was tough and boring.

Anyone going out on the course this weekend?  I'm thinking this will be the last weekend out on the course for me...then i get to start tapering!

The Augusta course is much faster then it looks on paper. First 17 flat and fast, last 12 flat and fast.

Did a double day today (rained out of swim yesterday). Swam 1.25mi (pool) this morning in 37:15 nice tempo. Then came home for 45min and slammed a half peanut butter sandwich. Then rode 60mi. non-stop on the local rollers in 3hrs 42min @ about 75% effort with a avg HR of 133bpm, 16.2 mph. Nutrition seemed right on, (lovin me some peanut butter & tropical fruit power bars plus clif gels every 30-45 mins, drank 3 bottles of gatorade lime) but it was cloudy and 77. Overall feel good, off tomorrow, then a 56/6 brick on wed (hell day)!!!

I plan on swimming the river and then ridding the course non stop again Saturday morning to dial in my nutrition for race day.  At the end of the course I will be adding another 10  - 15 miles at an easy pace.  I may do the course one more time after that.
