Subject: RE: p90xHi! I'm new here but just wanted to chime in. I kinda think P90X is cheesy but I love it at the same time. I was given the DVD's in Feb from a friend... and they have helped me to realize getting in shape is possible.
In Jan of this year at 42 yold, my 5'11 body weighed 230 pounds. My brain still remembers the only sprint trialtlon I've ever run at age 20 and judges itself accordingly. I was feeling pretty bad about myself physically. 17 years of being a nurse and not taking care of myself physically with any consistence, combined with age (gulp) was taking it's toll.
So my wife and I started dieting. She started first and I just simply started counting calories with an app on my IPod touch called "Lose It" (totally free btw). I started doing pushups, situps and squats 3 days a week. After a few weeks and some success I thought... maybe I should try that P90X stuff. That was late Feb... I am about to finish Phase 1 with only 2 workouts missed (both Yogas BTW, it's so hard it seems).
I must give my teenage boys credit for helping because they've been doing it with me. Combine that with an upcoming trip to Hawaii and not wanting to get pushed back into the water at the beach... I've had pretty good motivation and determination.
So, the good stuff. I haven't measure inches but I can crank out the workouts now, my resting HR is back to 50 from the high 60's it was and I've lost 20 pounds.
Tri is actually a possiblity and I'm excited... I want to start running this week, with P90x, something like couch to 5k while I finish the program then combine some of the DVD's with S/B/R.
So if anyone is reading this, I must say, if you can get P90X and continue to push play and do the workouts, it pays off. I have a friend in the Army Reserve (my same age) and he started about the same time (bought his p90x off of craigs list for $40!). He says he's blowing away his ruck marches now and his PT tests... much better than before.
Anyway, thanks for being here BT.com, just found this place and hope to keep progressing.
If your 42, or any age, and struggling... just keep at it... your brain will shift from "this sucks" to "THIS ROCKS!" in short order
