Does anyone have experience with Total Immersion? I wasn't a bad swimmer before, but I took a Total Immersion course and now I'm slower.  I realize it may be because I haven't learned to do it correctly.  I'm not sure I have the time to perfect that stroke and am considering reverting back to the old way.  Any thoughts?

I don't think any one has posted this, but here is a great link to a video with more details on the the damn repairs

I was wondering where they were going to get the water from, but this video explains it and they claim that they're still on schedule.

Thank you so much!  That is really helpful, I've just mapped out a similar stretch of home turf to ride "just in case".  This is scary for me as I'm already cutting it close to the cut off times.

I am just now starting to get excited for this thing.  Started late with training, so just now hitting the big stuff and feeling great.

Today's Update

Sept. 17, 2010

Crews are 85 percent finished with the installation of Bladder No. 3, 70 percent finished with Bladder No. 2 and about 10 percent finished with Bladder No. 1. All this has been done with multiple safety inspections at each stage of completion and in cooperation with engineers.

The photo to the left is of the south abutment wall being moved as part of the readiness for the pedestrian bridge installation. Crews guided this piece of cement with cables to ensure steadiness while the crane did the heavy lifting.

Here's a link to a time lapse video done by the Arizona Republic of the roll out of Bladder No. 1. http://bit.ly/9XXCPr

I have a few questions for people who did IMAZ last year.

1.  How is parking race morning?  Is the lot they have you park in very far from the start?

2.  Are there a number of tire pumps floating around T1 or am I better off bringing my own?  I just don't know if I can bring it on the plane and then I don't want to stick my wife with it for the day or make her walk it back to the car.

3.  I saw some people commenting that the IMAZ finishers swag sells out fast.  Did you find this to be the case?  I am hoping to finish around 13:30 - 14:00 hours and was wondering if I should have my wife go buy the stuff but I would like to see it before she buys it.

4.  Is the pre race dinner included with our wristbands or do we need to buy tickets for it?

thanks for the info!!

This will be my first full IM and can't wait for the race!!  Now if they will only get the dam fixed so I can put my mind at ease with that   LOL

TheNoid - 2010-09-17 2:04 PM I have a few questions for people who did IMAZ last year.

1.  How is parking race morning?  Is the lot they have you park in very far from the start?
All athletes get to park in the parking garage right next to Tempe Beach park (a 2 min walk). For those spectating, there is a lot of parking within 10-15 min of walking.  I know my parents parked at one of the large University parking lots just across the street.  I'd suggest you buy a map (if you don't know Tempe very well) and pay close attention to the road closures race day.

2.  Are there a number of tire pumps floating around T1 or am I better off bringing my own?  I just don't know if I can bring it on the plane and then I don't want to stick my wife with it for the day or make her walk it back to the car.
There are LBS reps at transition who offer tire pumps.  I remember there being a long line for this though (it moves pretty quick).

3.  I saw some people commenting that the IMAZ finishers swag sells out fast.  Did you find this to be the case?  I am hoping to finish around 13:30 - 14:00 hours and was wondering if I should have my wife go buy the stuff but I would like to see it before she buys it.
Certain sizes of the pre-race IMAZ stuff (the stuff that doesn't say FINISHER on it) seemed to sell out fast.  Most of the smalls and mediums seemed to be gone after the first day the expo opened.  I showed up the next morning AFTER the race and didn't have any problem getting my size for the finisher gear.

4.  Is the pre race dinner included with our wristbands or do we need to buy tickets for it?
Race dinner is included.  If you wish to bring guests, I think it's $25 or so for each.

thanks for the info!!

AND good luck and have fun!  This is a great venue to have an Ironman... the spectator support is amazing.  And, no need to worry about the lake.  They are making good progress on the dam and from what I've heard, WTC is fully aware of the situation and have a contingency plan in the works.

There should be plenty of pumps or use the LBS.  I recall I didn't have to wait long in line.

As for finisher's gear, they had the store open from something like 7 or 8 to 9 or 10 that night?  Anything you can't buy there you can order, at least I was able to.  My favorite finisher gear was ordered and came a couple weeks later.  I hardly ever wear that thing though

For your wife, a good spectating place for the run is under the Bridge right at transition.

Good luck!!!!!!

Yes, the run course passes the spectators under that bridge 6 times. It's a fun place to watch.

Thanks for the quick replies and excellent information.  I will leave my pump at home

That is great news that we get to park so close, I was afraid we would have a long walk or difficulty finding parking.

Can't wait!  Good luck to everyone doing it this year and congrats to those who did it last year

Does anyone have a Garmin TCX or course file of the bike loop?  I would just like to see what the loop looks like from an elevation perspective.

Thanks,
Mark

There isn't much to, basically a false flat all the way out, the last 2 miles or so pitches up slightly, even this profile looks way harder than it is (although going up it the third time wil be harder than the first)

Yeah, I looked at this which is what made me want to see the Garmin output.  I am sure this makes it look much scarier than it really is

well, garmin is going to look the same

Keep in mind it has maybe  2-3K feet of climbing (and that's probably overstating it) over 112 miles.  that is a "flat" ride by any estimation.

Here's a 305's look at the course in 2008.  Surprisingly, the elevation isn't super-elevated like the 305 normally does
