Any word/thoughts about on the gate closure up north and talk on contingencies? How far, total, do you guys plan to put in on Saturday?

I haven't heard anything about the closure and/or contingency plans.

For the brick, I was thinking 45-50 on the bike (up and back from the harbor to Christianitos) + one loop of the run.

The mission lots will make a good meet up spot and will make race morning easier since I'll know where I'm going.  Scattered showers scheduled for Saturday, but hopefully we'll just be chilly and overcast.

Saw a post referenced on ST that there is some road issue at Cristianitos Gate?  Looked on the Camp P site and they have this listed under closures (as posted

"Last update:03/07/2011 03:53 PM

Closure Information:

* The Cristianitos gate is closed indefinitely until repairs can be completed. It is anticipates that the gate will reopen sometime in the April"

Sorry, I meant any updates about it (or any contingency plan for the race).  Maybe they'll have it done by the April...1st?

Ah...

I survived the weekend, although it wasn't all that intense.  The bike ride was tough, and my hip flexors (?) were pretty sore Monday...  But looking at my ride, it was well over 4K feet of climbing, whereas Cal. 70.3 has about 2600 as I recall.  Sunday ran "long" at 5 miles ez with a good friend.  Felt like I could have gone further but didn't which was the point of the thing.  Was going to swim in Naples, but never got around to it, now it may rain this weekend so not going in then, looks like maybe no OW swims.....

This morning ran 4.  Hope to get a 7 or 8 miler in before Cal. at some point.

Why does it only rain on weekends?  How do you guys feel about rain on race day?  I could be okay with it.  My best runs are always in the rain.

Depends on the amount of rain....  I am on medication that potentially makes a fall on the bike more dangerous.  So, I've given up riding in the dark, riding in rain (not that I did much of that anyway), and just try to avoid situations where a fall is more likely.  I did do a sprint last Oct that was lightly raining, I just slowed way down.  So, I guess I'd have to make a game day decision.  Maybe I'd just swim, sit in T1 for 3.5 hours and get a massage, then go out on the run ( j/k)

I really like running in (light) rain though

I sent a mail to WTC about the course, and the road will be open for the race:-------------------------Thank you for your email. I have confirmed with the Race Directors that the course will be open for race day only. This is also confirmed with the base. Where are people staying?  I am at the Holiday Inn, about 1/2 mile from transition, under the bridge and across the parking lot

Well that's great news, bike course as planned.

Can you also check with the RD to find out if they'll have a cute, 20-something-year-old, blond physical therapist to serve as personal pace bunny for Chris the entire race.  If so, he and I will be getting the same time for this race.

Historically, it looks like they post wave times about a week before the race, so I wouldn't expect too much more until then.

I have mixed emotions about the road being open race day. On one hand, it would have been nice to have had a "flatter" course, but on the other hand, if we are going to do it, let's do it all. I will not miss the soft sand though (I'm thinking positive here) for the smaller hill section.

For lodging, we have a group of 5 competitors from that are renting a condo on the run course for the Friday/Saturday night. It is about 2 miles from transition, we still aren't sure if we are going to drive to the pier parking or just ride it. Game time decision. We get to cook our pre-race meal, and there is a spa on the deck. Cost was about $400/couple for the weekend, not much more that the cost of individual rooms, but we are beach front and our spectators will enjoy it alot more.

Water temp has risen in the last week, it is showing 59 in Oceanside harbor, hopefully a couple more degrees before race day.

I love you you got my back David.

Things haven't gone as planned, as they never do (which means, maybe they are going as planned...  now I'm confused), but I have to say I am getting quite excited for this race!

Staying in Carlsbad.  I think it's the Residence Inn.  Not the closest for race day, but it's just a few minutes down the freeway.  Nicer area IMO.  And, for the record, I'm glad the bike course will still include the climbs.  The more, the merrier.

I did a olypmic last year in September in the rain and had no problems with it. Actually posted one of my best times.  The only thing I would be concerned about is if it had not rained in a long time and the roads were slick, but I don't think we will have to worry about that.  Cooler temps for a half are always welcome.

Okay, here's the info on the preview brick:

Meet at 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot on the corner of Mission Ave & Cleveland St.  From I-5, exit Mission Ave and head west.  Make a right on Cleveland and turn left into the parking lot.  I'll be driving a charcoal GMC Envoy.

Don't forget to bring your ID or you won't be able to get on base!

Plan for 45-50 miles (mostly flat and fast) on the bike with an optional brick run on the course.

Hope to see you there!

Criminy, they think i am fast???    7:36 or 7:39.  At least there won't be THAT many people passing me on the bike.  And now I can figure out the cutoff times

I'm just thrilled that I'm in the last women's wave and will get to deal with the competitive men's AG's coming up on me. Oh well, what can you do, motivation to go faster, and at least I get to play catch the rabbit with the other women's wave.

I live down in San Diego, so I'm just making an early morning of it instead of staying up close. Only like a 20-30 minute drive--shorter than when I used to drive from my house in Killeen, TX to Austin for races. Not to mention there isn't likely to be traffic delays at 4AM on a Sat. morning! haha!

It sucks being in the most competitive age group (35-39). Although some times its the 40-44 that has the most age groupers.  I knew I should have waited to pick this hobby up when I was 60.  What sucks is I have to still get there early to make the Transition closer.

Not that I really care but why don’t they have the route profile for the run or bike course.  I guess $300 doesn’t get you what it used to.
