Here is my August:

Bike:31h 01m 08s  - 618.12 Mi
Run:14h 33m 16s  - 107.4 Mi
Swim:9h 50m  - 30744.4 M

Given I had 7 full days of NOTHING in there, I'm fairly happy with this. I did some traveling and just needed a bit of a break on the heels of IMCdA.  Getting back to the grind. Will do the Half-REV at REV3 Cedar Point next weekend, and then an Olympic after that. Basically "training" through both of those.  I just enjoy racing, so it helps break things up for sure.

And yes, don't compare mileage etc., amongst each other. Everyone of us has different lives, priorities, goals, hours available, energy available, etc. DO do what you do well and with purpose, but focus on you, not others!!

Nice work everyone.  Looks like the volume is building and many are starting to get in some good long bikes and long swims.

August was supposed to be a big volume month for me, but I spoiled it with too much intensity in my weekly long runs.  As a result, had an unplanned recovery day and skipped a couple workouts through the month.

I do feel, though, that the workouts have been well focused and purposeful.  Particular on the bike, lots of good steady climbing and steady endurance type stuff.

Just need to be more conservative as things continue to ramp, keeping running intensity in check and building bike volume.

August totals:

Bike42hrs 42min684 miles

Run16hrs 13min114 miles

Swim8 hrs 6min26,734 yards

Doing the SuperFrog 1/2 IM next weekend.

Stay safe out there..

Good advice, Molly - where are you riding HERE?!?!?!?!?!

Hard to find long flats.  I think the hills are building my strength, but the idea of long, windy flats is starting to intimidate me!!

Trucking right along....

Easing back into things after CdA....but ran my first marathon last sunday (3:42) and was able to run with no discomfort 5 days later.  The next 2 months should be pretty intense.  Kids go back to school on wednesdaym so my training will be somewhat back to normal.

Swim:  0

Bike:  400 miles

Run:  142 miles

August's totals:

Bike:19h 21m 14s  - 340.74 Mi

Run:16h 34m 01s  - 122.3 Mi

Swim:4h 12m 01s  - 13349.78 Yd

Numbers are down from last month, partly due to work travel, work hours, and a hurricane.  Coming off of a URI now, but ready to jump back into training. I hope to hit some big numbers for September if all goes as planned.

Ha! I don't think I've ridden long in the valley since May! Weekends always seem to find me at a dog show somewhere else so I've been up in Solano or Napa counties a lot. Let me know what you find locally since I think I need to do one around here the weekend after Kahuna...might have to be a 2-loop trip to Gilroy and back.

Anyone here have aspirations for a Kona slot this year?  I am shooting for 9:3X and hoping that is good enough to get me in the 35-39AG.  It seems to get faster every year though....

While I do have aspirations to score a Kona slot, they are not realistic any time soon!  I believe my best IM time on the IMAZ course could be 11:xx if I had a perfect race and training year.  If I decide to stay with the S/B/R thing consistently over the next 5 years, I might be able to bring that time down, but I doubt I would be close to a KQ.

With that said --- Best of luck to you!!

My only aspirations for Kona is to watch it on TV, I am way to slow.   We have twins on the way and I do not think another full will be in the cards for awhile.  Now an Ultra that is another story.

I'm just excited to go spectate Kona this year! My coach won her AG at Eagleman and is headed back for her 3rd time at Kona so we decided it would be fun to go cheer!

I have Kona Aspirations!!   I simply need to drop 2.5ish hours, or hit a major roll down!!!  Hey, I did it for Boston, first try.  If I thought I'd have a prayer, I would have waited at Vineman and GOT THE LV rolldown.  DAMNIT!!!!!!   Dinner was great, but I was number 17 and it rolled to 37!!!!!!!!!    AZ may be my year, ya never know.  Just don't bet on it!!!  ;-)

So tired today.  82 miles, 8k+ climbing.  Need to start riding flat to get comfortable with the steady grind,  heading it to Gilroy, it looks like.

Did my first ows this weekend and things went well....kind of. My sighting was great and I was very comfortable in the water, but my shoulders were getting sore early. I usually swim in a pool, and I never feel exhausted in my long swims (3000-4000m). Maybe I didn't do a good job of working my wetsuit up my arms and making room for my arms/chest? I'm now considering a sleeveless for AZ but I know the water temp is fairly cold. Thoughts/suggestions!

ps This is only my 2nd ows with a wetsuit

Definitely could be not getting the wetsuit high enough on your arms/shoulders - could also be your suit is too big, as I learned recently - I did AZ last time and all my races for several years in a suit that was too big. Now it's HARD work to put it on but I don't get any shoulder pain.

Fingers crossed AZ stays warmer longer this year and the lake doesn't get quite as cold as the past few years!

It might just take a couple of swims to get used to the feeling.  I remember my first couple of wetsuit swims felt more labored than usual as well.  You could take a pic of the shoulder area and post it so we can see how tight/loose it looks...

Just did my first 100 miler Saturday and it went pretty damn well. I think my coach will have me riding 100+ miles for the next two months. Running on Sunday was tough. I felt very fatigued from the start but managed a decent run.

This week I'll be in Saint George UT and I'm going to do two loops of the IMSG course.

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere in this tread, but I'm too lazy to page through.

I've spoken to folks that have raced and the opinions vary from cold/clear to warm/murky.  I'm sure conditions vary from year to year.

Can a local, or anyone who has done this race weigh in on the water conditions to expect this year?

Tempe Town Lake is a shallow lake and the temperature changes pretty rapidly with the weather. It was warm and murky in May, when it was 100+ degrees out. It's probably still very warm. However, as temps drop in October/November, it changes pretty fast. I can't think of a year yet that this race has been in November where the water hasn't been on the cool side. Unless the heat stays a lot longer this year, it's a safe bet it'll be cool (and murky, because other than the year it was freshly filled with new water, that's a given with TTL).

Try sleeveless wetsuit and wear a shirt (short sleeve or long sleeves) with high collar for anti-chafing on the back of neck. The shirt sleeves will help with cold and still have shoulders free to move easier.

Temps are usually in the 60s on Ironman race day. It will be cool/murky. This lake is never clear. You'll barely be able to see your hand in front of you. Be prepared for that.

Good morning everyone. It's Saturday and I'm betting lots of us have long workouts today. I have a long brick which I will start on the trainer and move outside when the sun comes up. I'm starting to get used to (and *sometimes* even like) getting up at 4 so I can eat before starting. Yesterday I'd run 8 miles by 6am. I think I'm becoming a morning-ish person. Anyone else find some twisted pleasure in being up and active this early?

I am glad once I have completed a training session  that starts early but getting going in the morning is tough. Swim, bike and run for me today.
