Also, I didn't get a response to this when I asked earlier, so I'm going to ask again!  Do you guys know what the limitations on a mag trainer are as compared to a fluid trainer?  I'm looking at buying a fluid because Ryan thinks I'm starting to ride outside the limitations of the mag.  I'm not really sure what that means.

Fluid trainers are usually quieter, provide the most realistic ride, and are very durable.  Usually considered the top of the food chain.    Here is a link that may help you.....

http://cycling-review.com/accessories/bicycle-trainer/

Love our new governor...but agree with Suzy that he presented the message all wrong.  Right idea, wrong execution.....kind of like some of my previous race strategies!!!  Foot in mouth

I guess I don't know what it means that he thinks I'm "riding outside the mag trainer's limitations."  I know the fluid is better than the mag, but how so am I riding outside of one's limitations?  I don't get it.

I have been trying to figure that out too since you first wrote it.  Not sure what that means unless you are riding in the big ring in front, small cog in the bag with the resistance jacked up and not breaking a sweat!!  (admittedly, I know not a whole lot about trainers...have a nashbar fluid trainer and it has suite me fine).

This feels like a dumb suggestion but maybe you should ask Ryan what he means???

And if he keeps pushing, tell him you need a CT!!!

I had the best run I have had in months it seems. It was just a regular 5mile run (5.35miles 42:48) Started my watch and didn't look at it until I stopped it. Changed it up a bit by running on the road switching to the side either on gravel or grass hopping on and off curbs giving my legs, ankles, and mind something else to think about besides the road only. To bad I had to stop.

Any one else participating in the Gator Half March 20th

kt65 - 2011-02-17 3:40 PM Following on John's heels with a race scheduling question...

Sorry John, I am a rook, so I have no idea what post IM 4 weeks will feel like...I am imagining a nice long recovery...

I have tentatively scheduled an Olympic on June 19, then Vineman 70.3 on July 18, then IMWI on Sept 11.

Today I got an email for a new race in Silicon Valley that is a long course tri (1 mile swim in a lake, 56 mile bike and then a 9 mile run).  Coach says either is fine...I tend to like longer bikes because I don't have to put pedal to the medal, but wonder if doing a pedal to the medal is a good thing pre- IM.  Any ideas?  Did you guys do sprints or olys before IM's?  or find them helpful?

When is the new race?  If it is in June, I think either will work.  Honestly, I do Olys for speed training and you gotta whole lot of that already!  You know what's funny?  I'm doing an Oly on 6/19, a HIM on 7/18 and IM WI with you....TWINDOM.

John, I kind of agree with Trevor, but you certainly would be able to do it without an issue unless you totally blow yourself apart in IM (which I am not expecting).

SoccerGK - 2011-02-17 1:24 PM That picture is TOOOO CUTE!  We haven't tried to hook Nadie up to a sled or anything since we got her, so we don't know how she would respond, but I can imagine once a sled dog, always a sled dog.  Speaking of which, I'm trying to convince Ryan that we need to adopt this guy this weekend: http://upaws.org/available.php?id=6526 . We're trying to put together our own little team, I guess!  So if you agree that we need him, you should probably PM Ryan and tell him that...  Laughing Juust kidding.
!

Hmmm how can I PM him. HE NEEDS THIS DOG...

I would totally love to adopt that dog. I think if I had another one my wife would shoot me. Although our first malamute was my dog. I said WAS because she is totally my wife's suck. My wife's first dog she ever had. I had to beg for 3 years... now She is Tina's 8 year old suck...

Except in the winter where she stays outside 80% of the time we are home.. its hard to get her inside even after a nice long walk or pull she heads right back outside. I can't pull her anymore due to an ankle injury.

I personally prefer the malamute over the husky now. But love both breeds.

Plenty of room, Trev!  Howling winds and rain the past few days, however.  Long run tomorrow morning, and thank you!  Now, I am looking on the bright side that I am not up there in Calgary!   You are pretty hardcore for riding your bike to work in that weather!   Hope the ride home is a little warmer.

Damn dude...

Awww that just means it is coming my way. I woke up to 49 degress F this morning it warmed up over night. Snow is melting everywhere. Fields are flooded. Peoples basements are flooding from the snow melting. It is supposed to drop back down to 34 by this afternoon.

I am thinking we might have our first group ride this weekend. Winds are suposed to be 10-20 mph Saturday and 30-32 degrees.

I hope to get out but if the winds are up to 20mph I don't want to know the wind chill and I will hit the trainer.

Trevor, you are more of a man than I if you were on your bike at -9 degrees this morning.

Not to rub it in or anything, but on my 2.5 hr. ride this afternoon, it was approaching 75 degrees.  Send some of that cooler weather down here, I hate it when sweat drips on the inside of your shades.

Serious question though...  I spent most of the 2.5 hours in aero today, and my frigging neck and shoulders just couldn't take it anymore.  Holy crap.  I am not even in a very aggressive position but looking forward and up seems to be placing alot of strain on the neck.

Any of you have any tricks up your sleeve, or is it just going to take a little time in the saddle to get the body used to?

Barry, the first couple rides back in aero are hard for me as well.  If it doesn't  get better after that I know it's a fit problem and I have it looked at.

Oh, and by the way, just did a 4 mile run in 78 degrees.  Yes, I know you hate me and I'm cool nice and warm with that. Wink

Oh, cry me a f'ing river already!!!!!!

My neck gets crampy in aero when I'm not as used to it. I think it gets better with time, but seeing as I haven't ridden the tri bike outside in forever I can't comment. Inside on the trainer I am switching positions all the time, but have found for longer stretches my tush is much, much happier being aero, so there is that!!

Trevor -- I quit smoking yesterday. Time for a new picture.

John -- thanks for the link... there is hope!!! I can't wear fancy Victoria's Secret bras cuz, well, yeah, cuz. That said, I hate wearing bras (which is another reason why I loved Bree Wee's blog the other day, although she waited WAAAAAY too long to take hers off, IMO), so the fact that fancy ones don't fit me doesn't bother me one bit. (Er, that would be one itty, bitty bit!)

Not sure when/where/how I became such a cougar. I guess now would be the wrong time to tell you about the cute little bag boy at my local grocery store who is training for Vineman?! Yeah, I check up on his training when I see hiim. Ha!!

Edit: After reading Tracy's post, I think I remember the woman who did my initial bike fit telling me that if I had really bad neck/shoulder pain to consider elevating the aero pads a bit. Can't remember if we did that or not eventually, but something to consider in the fit department...

Yeah keep at it a bit.  If you're still experiencing pain you could mess around with some positioning stuff, moving aerobars around and all, but I would stick with it for awhile 2.5 hrs in aero is a very good start.
