Did you get the voice-guided navigation system with that sweet setup? That would really make you untouchable on the bike this season. Wink

In all seriousness, congrats! Looking forward to seeing it in action this year. Definitely enjoy that!!!

evondo - 2010-03-23 8:11 PM Not sure it'll help much with my speed but piece of mind for sure  P2SL has treated me well the past 2 years and I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of her. The SRAM rival components that come with the D6 setup will be put on my P2SL.

bzgl40 - 2010-03-23 8:00 PM Sweet ride Eric.  Expect some speedy races from you.  What are you going to put on your training bike for components?

Congrats on the new bike!

evondo - 2010-03-23 7:18 PM Fit is done, bike is purchased so I can spill the beans... Fuji D-6 with a HED Jet 6 front, HED Jet 9 w/disc cover & PowerTap Pro+ rear, all Dura-ace components instead of default SRAM.

This is going to be a race only bike, I've had a very hard time keeping my current bike up and running. It seems every time I near a race something needs to be fixed, tweaked or replaced. Now I don't have to worry about breaks not working, bearings clicking or PowerTap not working (all of which have happened to me in a race).  It's going to be a few weeks before the rear wheel is in but the rest should be built up by this weekend I hope. I'll post pics when I get them but for now here's the default configuration...

race only bike.  very good.  you're getting castrated on the 11th 10th and will be recovering from that episode on the 25th.  frame might be a little small so i'll just use the wheels for those two races.

very nice ride man!

I love the hammer apple cinnamon.

bzgl40 - 2010-03-23 8:14 PM Gels: which do you use?  I had been using Honey Stinger but I decided on my last bike ride that they are indeed bugging my stomach.  I kind of suspected so and after the last few times I believe it has been confirmed.  I use to use Cliff Shots but I tried a gross Espresso one not so long ago and it was sooooo gross it turned me off them for a while.  I just ordered some Hammer ones and some Chocolate #9 (http://www./).  I am really excited to test the Chocolate #9.  In case you all haven't notice I am a little fond of my chocolate.

Gosh darn it, they edited out my link.  Just google it.  It is the first site that comes up

I use a combo of GU Lemon Sublime and Infinit for my nutrition.  I heard people having similar issues with gels in general, some people's stomachs do better by diluting the gel with a some water in those small gel bottles.

VERY nice ride Eric!

I've been doing some prelimary searches looking at a new tri bike for me and I'm not finding much in my price range.
Anybody want to buy an industrial embroidery machine???

My tummy can be a bit sensitive and I really like the Gu brand for gels and their chomps which are kind of like shot blocks but different packaging.

Trust me I already know she has to put up with way too much. I out kicked my coverage on this one. All I had to do was trick her into marrying me in Vegas. Just saying I MYSELF planned 100% of my wedding. Hows your plans going EvD???

I can say that after that bad arse bike you got there. I really like it.

kcarroll - 2010-03-23 6:29 PM OK. next time you have one of those "why did I marry you?" fights, pull this out of the memory banks.  Any woman that comes to rescue her man's iPhone, then lets him ride in her car smelling of POP is a saint. Sorry, but this says far more about your wife than clever t-storm strategies. Kiss

Newtons1st - 2010-03-23 5:55 PM OK everyone its about that time of year when running you might encounter a T-Storm/Rain Shower. Always be mindfull of where the Port-o-potys are. This from my logs last year.

"I got up at the crack of 8:30 and decided to get in my 8 miler today. Was off to a great start. Was feeling great and all was going good. I see up ahead in the road there is a large grey wall of water coming my way. Huge down pour out of nowhere. Today also happens to be the first time I have my Iphone for music. So I had to think fast and the best thing was a port o potty about 40 yards up. So I sprint there and jump inside. Good thing for me is I have no sense of smell. I call the wife to come get the phone and I would just finish the run in the rain. As I was in there I took a look at the radar and a huge line of dark red rain was coming so I just jumped in the car and called it a day, "

The wife didint care to much for the smell of 4 miles + POP stench.

I think this is one of those things that comes down to personal preference/different things working for different people.  I used to AccelGel...thinner consistency than others which I really liked.  But halfway through last season I just couldn't stomach gel anymore.  Switched to GU Chomps....love them!!!  I'm starting to see if I can stomach gel again.  This past weekend tried GU Blackberry Jet...not bad.

Personally hate Cliff Gels and Hammer Gel.  If I absolutley needed calories I'd take a PowerGel.

I have to ask...why the intentional move away from Cervelo?  It seems you weren't even considering a newer Cervelo in the list of possibilities.  Not that any of the bikes you were considering aren't excellent (including the one you ended up with).  Was a Felt ever an option?  I am not sure which brands TOTR carries - I am sure your discount weighed heavily into the decision.

Ended up being a large in that frame. The difference between M/L and L was just the reach which I actually need more of than even the large frame so I'll swap to a bigger stem.

TOTR doesn't carry them and it would have cost me way more money to goto another store.  I would still recommend Cervelo to anyone looking for the best component setup for your money it just wasn't the case for me.

I believe that people spend too much time worrying about wind tunnel data and which bike is faster when in reality you sit a 140-200+lb rider on top whose drag coefficient far out weighs that of the bike. Once a bike is in that range of quality, I look at them all as equal and will take the one that best fits me and costs the least

For those of you that wear compression tights for recovery, what brand of tights do you have?

I love these things so much I'm getting another pair.  When I bought mine last year I just fell into the medium size category.  I considered getting a size small, but didn't think it likely I'd be losing any weight.  Since the end of last season I've lost almost 10 lbs, so my tights don't fit nearly as tight as I'd like them to.  I'm trying to decide between Zoot compression tights and Skins.  Any thoughts one way or another?

Based on Justin's recommendation earlier this year I bought the Zoots.  They do a great job. You choose your size based upon calf/thigh/waist measurements which makes the fit better, I think.  They also cover instep and ankle which I like.  The only thing I don't like about them is they ride a little "low" on the hips for me.  But, I'm 5'10" with a 36" inseam.

Swim toys/training aids: Do you use any? I have a problem with sinking hips and am curious to find out if doing some drills with a pull buoy would help.

When I drive my head down my hips rise but it feels like I'm swimming too deep and it's hard to roll to get air without pulling my head up. Maybe I'm overcompensating or I just need to roll more.

A pull buoy won't help you fix the sinking hips problem, it'll just mask it while you wear it. Instead of driving your head down think of it as pressing your chest down and see if that helps.  Your head should be looking down but not angled down...
