Eric: beautiful bike, congratulations.  Almost everything I've read about buying a new tri bike (and I've read a LOT of stuff) suggests that you're exactly right: the differences in the aerodynamics of various bike brands are negligible when you put a very non-aerodynamic human aboard it, and fit is what's most important.

6" of snow last night here in Denver.  Campus is closed.  Think I'll go skiing.

That is the most important part of the wedding process. He has to make sure he get his Brown Chicken Brown Cow groove on. Plus be in a good location to get some training in...

Betsy0706 - 2010-03-24 9:37 AM And for that you will always get props in my book Todd.  I love that story!  EvD plan?  Yeah right.  I will say he took care of planning the honeymoon so he gets points for that.

Newtons1st - 2010-03-24 8:07 AM Trust me I already know she has to put up with way too much. I out kicked my coverage on this one. All I had to do was trick her into marrying me in Vegas. Just saying I MYSELF planned 100% of my wedding. Hows your plans going EvD???

I can say that after that bad arse bike you got there. I really like it.

kcarroll - 2010-03-23 6:29 PM OK. next time you have one of those "why did I marry you?" fights, pull this out of the memory banks.  Any woman that comes to rescue her man's iPhone, then lets him ride in her car smelling of POP is a saint. Sorry, but this says far more about your wife than clever t-storm strategies. Kiss

Newtons1st - 2010-03-23 5:55 PM OK everyone its about that time of year when running you might encounter a T-Storm/Rain Shower. Always be mindfull of where the Port-o-potys are. This from my logs last year.

"I got up at the crack of 8:30 and decided to get in my 8 miler today. Was off to a great start. Was feeling great and all was going good. I see up ahead in the road there is a large grey wall of water coming my way. Huge down pour out of nowhere. Today also happens to be the first time I have my Iphone for music. So I had to think fast and the best thing was a port o potty about 40 yards up. So I sprint there and jump inside. Good thing for me is I have no sense of smell. I call the wife to come get the phone and I would just finish the run in the rain. As I was in there I took a look at the radar and a huge line of dark red rain was coming so I just jumped in the car and called it a day, "

The wife didint care to much for the smell of 4 miles + POP stench.

We're going to Hawaii, 1 week cruise around the islands Honolulu, Maui, Hilo, Kona, Kauai and then we're staying 1 week in a cottage on the beach in Hanalei Bay on Kauai.  It's going to be a rough couple weeks

Are you saying my bike is more aero than my sleek toned body? But you haven't seen me with yarn taped to me as my wife aims the fan at me Surprised

evondo - 2010-03-24 9:25 AM TOTR doesn't carry them and it would have cost me way more money to goto another store.  I would still recommend Cervelo to anyone looking for the best component setup for your money it just wasn't the case for me.

I believe that people spend too much time worrying about wind tunnel data and which bike is faster when in reality you sit a 140-200+lb rider on top whose drag coefficient far out weighs that of the bike. Once a bike is in that range of quality, I look at them all as equal and will take the one that best fits me and costs the least

I KENOTT swim - 2010-03-24 9:02 AM
evondo - 2010-03-23 6:18 PM Fit is done, bike is purchased so I can spill the beans... Fuji D-6 with a HED Jet 6 front, HED Jet 9 w/disc cover & PowerTap Pro+ rear, all Dura-ace components instead of default SRAM.

This is going to be a race only bike, I've had a very hard time keeping my current bike up and running. It seems every time I near a race something needs to be fixed, tweaked or replaced. Now I don't have to worry about breaks not working, bearings clicking or PowerTap not working (all of which have happened to me in a race).  It's going to be a few weeks before the rear wheel is in but the rest should be built up by this weekend I hope. I'll post pics when I get them but for now here's the default configuration...

I have to ask...why the intentional move away from Cervelo?  It seems you weren't even considering a newer Cervelo in the list of possibilities.  Not that any of the bikes you were considering aren't excellent (including the one you ended up with).  Was a Felt ever an option?  I am not sure which brands TOTR carries - I am sure your discount weighed heavily into the decision.

Eric, congrats on the new race machine!  My two favorite frames... QR Cd.01 & The Fuji D6! So I am totally jealous.... ~ dirty rotten, ^*$&&&@#&$#()$@*&#@^!!!! Ha!  And yes you will be faster on the fuuuuje!  Perception is 9/10ths of 'c'... Ha!

Gels - I prefer the GU brand... but I can stomach PowerGels and others if I have to.  If I am buying them... GU's for sure.

Shot blocks are on my bike too

Swim aids... Just PB & Paddles  (Maybe an Evinrude 225 strapped to my butt so I can keep up with Fattyfatfat!)

Compression Rx by Zoot for me.  Just like Kim said... love em' and yes they ride a little low.

Happy belated birthday to the kiddos - KK & Ken.

Been busier than a 1 legged man at a butt kicking contest... so I am trying to stay on top of the MG interaction.

NICOLE! Thinking about ya... I hope all is well!

evondo - 2010-03-24 11:16 AM A pull buoy won't help you fix the sinking hips problem, it'll just mask it while you wear it. Instead of driving your head down think of it as pressing your chest down and see if that helps.  Your head should be looking down but not angled down...

sma777 - 2010-03-24 10:10 AM Swim toys/training aids: Do you use any? I have a problem with sinking hips and am curious to find out if doing some drills with a pull buoy would help.

When I drive my head down my hips rise but it feels like I'm swimming too deep and it's hard to roll to get air without pulling my head up. Maybe I'm overcompensating or I just need to roll more.

I've used the pull buoy way to much and noticed recently I've developed some bad habits because of it (ie sinking hips).  Now I only use it when I want to concentrate on my upper body form and swim at most 300yrds with it.

WOW!  I talked my boss into allowing every field based employee in our group to be compensated up to $100 / year for a gym membership!  This could cost our company over $26k annually (if everyone was on board).  Our company is promoting a new program next year that may change employee benefit cost based on blood pressure / weight / BMI and cholestrol level.  there never was a better time to get in shape!  I think our business is finally getting the cost of employees not making good decisions regarding eating, excercise and smoking.

That is AWESOME, Ken! Back in my TV days the only perk we got was a free membership to Gold's...I used the heck out of that but it was a shame more people didn't utilize it. Wish I had something similar now. Hope it turns into a big deal for your company.

What do do?  So, this weekend I have a 4hr bike ride and a 2.5 hr run scheduled that there is no way I can do.  I am primary on call starting Friday morning and I have to be near a PC.  I usually just stare at the pager and show it some hate, but on those days it does go off I have to be able to fix the problem quickly.  So, to lay out the rest of the week, I am suppose to do a 1hr tempo run tomorrow and a short ride Friday.  What I was thinking of doing was trying to get a long run in Friday morning super early but I am not sure that is wise to do after my tempo run.  Am I better off just following the schedule as is and using the weekend as a recovery weekend or should I try and figure out a way to get in the long run?  I already have to write off the bike ride, no way to do that.  I have a half marathon at the end of April but I am just doing that for fun so not so so concerned about it.  Note, I will probably get a shorter run and bike on the weekend if I feel things are calm.

Can you do the long run tomorrow instead and skip the tempo run? If I have to skip or move workouts I like to at least make sure I'm getting the longer stuff in there, but I'm weak on the run anyway and need all the time and distance I can get. Or you could make it a long/tempo run... mine today was 2 hours... 30' warm up, 2x (20' @ z3-4 w/ 5' recovery), 40' cool down...

I am worried that is not enough recovery from my last long run.  Maybe I'll do a swim/bike tomorrow, long run Fri morning and if I can do a tempo of sorts on Sunday.  If worse comes to worse I can do that on the treadmill and not worry about the pager.

If I were you I would make sure I got my long runs in and then I would worry about squeezing in the tempo work during the weekend when you are on call. Bottom line if you miss a work out you will be better served then doubling up a work out or by pairing two works outs too closely together. Take the advise you have given me in the past... Long run is by far the most important. Instead of doing tempo afterward just do an easy/recovery run. The best way to cram in mileage when in a bind is to slow everything down a notch.

bzgl40 - 2010-03-24 7:56 PM What do do?

Per Nicole's FB status, looks like she had to have her appendix out.  And sounds like all is well and she's resting up.
