It's been a couple days since anyone has posted anything on the water temperature, has everyone finally accepted that it is what it is, or is it because the Honey Badger wouldn't give a sh*#?

I wonder if the Honey Badger can swim??? I wonder if the Honey Badger likes cold water???

Honey Badger loves to swim, I mean look at his digging, it's a similar motion Also his skin is fairly loose making it easier to twist around in the water.... Keep an eye out in the lake for him!

My Mom and SIL are volunteering in the women's change tent and received an update email from the volunteer coordinator.  It sounds like there will be either warming yurts or hot tubs next to the tents this year.  I'm not sure if this is normal, but I didn't see them last year.

Whatever, Honey Badger don't give a sh*t about cold water.  He loves it.

Edited because BT deletes even my clean version of shiznit.

We just discussed this at our Med tent meeting today.  There will be two large warming Yurts but no hot tubs.  The hot tubs get really nasty after about the first 5 people get in them with grass all over their feet so just the Yurts this year.  The Yurts are VERY warm and a good place to go if you're freezing after the swim.
As for the water temps, right now they're around 51-52 degrees.  It's supposed to push 80 degrees this weekend so I suspect the lake will warm up ok by race day...it always does.
It's nearly taper time for you guys...keep it going!

The feelings of anxiety, the obsessiveness, the self-absorbtion are hitting me more and more each day. The only calm moments are when you are distracted or working out. I have been pretty good about being consistent over the months of build for this event, but I get them anyways. I am sure some of you feel the same. Maybe time for KiKi zen to give us some mental coping strategies haha.

Is it just me, or is anyone else just ready for this to be over? Seriously, I am not having nearly as much fun as I was last year for my first IM.

Definitely wanting to get this done.

Right now, worrying over maybe putting an 11-32 on the back for the hills. Keep staring at the bike course profile, and thinking the 12-26 i have now on my new bike is not going to be enough spin for those grades, with the 53/39 I have up front now. Then start to worry if shoes have too many or too few miles on them for them run. Lots of things to distract me from work and getting things done at home.

Yeah -- I've been having a lot of that this go-around. Feels like more of a grind this year. Can't help but wonder if part of that is due to the crappy spring weather (or long-lasting winter weather, I should say). I also think that, when the end is in sight, you just want to get the party started. We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, so now we want to go through said tunnel!! Hang in there, peeps!!

The USGS thermometer showed 52.88 degrees yesterday...but remember, only Honey Badger swims 10 feet under the surface.

With me, its almost exactly opposite. Last year, I worked my butt off. Lots and lots of 15+ hr weeks. This year, not so much. It hardly felt like an IM build at all, and my distance stuff just began last week (I did my first 100/5 brick a week ago!) I guess I am just frustrated in that I feel less prepared this time than I did my first, and the lack of work I have been given has overall made me very complacent about CdA. I followed my coaches plan, and though I do see some benefit to workouts (lots and lots of interval work on the bike has made me much more powerful) it just is not what I was expecting, especially comparing my data to everyone elses. What do I have to look forward to if I know that, come race day, I am not going to perform at the level I want???

i think its important to recognize that training load is a function of volume AND intensity and you can vary one or both of the variables to get a desired outcome. THere are plenty of folks who I will "out volume" who will beat me on race day due to their particular abilities, training plans, race day strategy, response to race day adversity, what have you.

2 years ago I tried like heck to not get outworked and still got crushed at IMAZ by stellar and/or smarter athletes who did less training than me. I anticipate that happening again. don't lose your mojo based on volume postings. this is not a race to see who can have the best totals, but a race to see the best you can do on the day given the conditions. You need to focus on having the best race you can at this point and prove your doubters (most of all yourself) wrong!

But you have to agree, just starting with my "IM build" a week ago is a bit....off.

I am trying my hardest to trust my coach, but right now, after a failed attempt at an 18 mile run last night (heat got to me) I am beyond pissed at my training so far this year.

I am already super hard on myself on race day, and always find a way to criticize even the best performance, spinning it into "constructive criticism". I just have not enjoyed this process at all, not seeing myself grow as an athlete as much as I wanted. And I have a feeling this will come back to bite me on race day in CdA.

Sometimes we are our worst critics.  I was hoping to have some weight loss and to get my body fat % down.  After all of this training the scales have not moved and I'm not seeing the definition that I thought I would.  So last Sunday I ran into a friend on my run.  Later he sent me an e-mail on how ripped and toned I looked and how I motivated him to start training for a dulathon.  It was nice to hear that the results of all of this training are showing.

I dk how you can clearly judge training after a fail on a long run on the hottest most humid night of the year. 99 degrees!!!

Hang in there man. A single workout does not an Ironman Training Cycle Make. More often then not, workouts like this where we push ourselves to the breaking point are just what we need, especially this close to race day.

More to the point: Trust your coach. You spent good money to have a plan put together for you and now is not the time for buyer's remorse.

I might suggest that you make the best of your remaining workouts and use your week 2 taper workouts as a better judge of what race day will bring. In the scope of heavy training, it is not valid to compare your 18 mile run experience to race day predictions.

Don't know about Honey Badger, but this kid thinks 52 degrees is very doable. Water temp was crossed off of my list of worries about a month ago when it crossed over the 50 degree mark. I did a few workouts earlier this cycle in ocean water in the low 50s without a wetsuit Sealed

An inexperienced .02 opinion.  However, here it is.  I think we will all have something we wished we would have done different on June 27, 2011.  I also think we have all wondered what the hell our coach was thinking at times.  I think that often to tell you the truth.  then on race day this crazy thing happens and I have tapered well and have more speed and power than I thought possible- so I have learned to trust him.  I have also learned to tell him how I am feeling and let him adjust. He has never said a word but I know he has to think "why does this average athlete give me so much feed back".

at any rate.  At this point I doubt we can change much but our focus.  I think we have to focus on what we will have to overcome and how we do it.  I humbly resubmit the wonderful thought Texasmpgirl said earlier - it is important to remember we are all blessed to be doing this physicaly, mentaly, finacialy, etc.  Be glad.  Heck we will all wish we had pushed more here or done less there after the race.  Until June 27 lets just focus on how great it is to be sick of doing something so awesome.  Plus a HB don't give a sh*t about woulda shoulda coulda.  Cause he just dont give a sh*t.

One thing I'll say: you guys from the southeast will have NO problem with a sunny day in Coeur d'Alene.  It never gets humid.  And the run is mostly alongside the lake so you can get a nice breeze off the water.

Question for the Cool Kids:

What Ironman Race are you all planning on doing in 2012. Will you be signing up for CdA 2012 on Saturday, or maybe you are planning on getting in the queue to sign up for a different race. There might be one or two of us that are just going to be glad that it is over and swear off forever this silly notion of the Ironman.

I ask because now is the time to solidify those plans. Remember that registration is 1 year in advance and we all need to be Johnny on the Spot when it comes to getting registered for our followup race.

One option that I have done in the past and will very likely be doing this year is to volunteer for my target race and get registration priority for the following year. (I am going to try and get into IMMoo in 2012

Looking into doing Florida in '12. Im in Atlanta, so logistically speaking it would be very easy to get there.

For those considering CDA in 2012 I heard this weekend while I was up there that the bike course is definitely changing and will include 2 loops with Mica Grade (which is a crazy hard 5 mile climb from what the locals have said).

Just something to consider....

I had a chance to think about it and kinda wish I could go back and delete posts. I do not want to sound like I am criticizing my coach on a public forum like this, because that is definitely not the intention. I want to be clear that I really love my coach, and that I think we are a great fit for each other after working almost 2 years together.

I, like others in this sport, get way too caught up in comparing my technique/ability/races/gear/etc to others instead of truly enjoying everything triathlon has given me. Come to think of it, I am pretty bad at comparing myself to others in lots of other things in life as well, but I digress. Point is, I get very intimidated thinking about my training versus others, especially going into CdA more nervous than I did at Louisville.

Anyone else out here have advice on how to go through this sport without going crazy like me? I need to learn to trust my fitness more, and be patient that it will come when I am ready. Any more seasoned people have words of wisdom?
