Alright..... I will keep the same w/ minor tweaks... Once I get the HIGH RESOLUTION version I will make a better picture/poster (one that you can print full poster size, backdrop computer,etc....).  My gift to the group is a copy of it.  Full high res version.

I don't think I can put it on here due to size of file, but I will gladly email it to you (probably early next week).   My gift to the group.  If you want a plan version, tweaked, different saying just let me know.

My email address: [email protected]

Send me an email and once I get the high res version done I will email you the full version!  If you want to print it out just put in on a usb drive and take it to any photoshop (that has the ability to go poster size) and print it out.  I know that Costco does it in less than an hour for $5.00 with great paper quality.

DougRob - 2009-06-19 9:44 AM Reub:

I hope to follow your lead and have a new "action" photo for an avatar after next week's tri. They're supposed to have a photographer at that one. Hopefully I wont look too dorky.

Doug--the key is don't look down at your Garmin when you turn it off.  I do that everytime and my finish photo always stinks.

Rob--congrats on the promotion after only working there for a month or two! Nice work.

Here is a question for the group. I found out the HIM I signed up for lost its USAT sanction last year for several violations.  How should I think about that? does that happen often?   I scoured through the BT and ST forums and found a lot of negative press related to course accuracy, lack of signage or volunteers on the bike course, and general safety issues on both the bike and run course.   All of it concerns me, but it is the only late season HIM in WI.  Do I avoid it? or just be aware of the potential problems?

Suzy

What were the violations?  This is the first question I'd want answers to.

The "press" reports I've read in the brief time you posted this seem to suggest that this race has gotten better at the things you are concerned about.  So that's a good pattern.   Also this is its 20th year so they must be doing something right.   And in my newbie humble opinion, I hear and read lots of good stuff about non-sanctioned events,  even some from RD's and racers that prefer non-sanctioned events.  So losing the USAT raises a flag but not being USAT doesn't nessesarliy.

I'd still do it and here's why:  Not to sound like a jerk but it is the racers responsibility to know the course.  Signage, markings, volunteers waving which way to go are all bonuses.  Heck. I can't tell you how many people went off course at the last sprint I did and they had cops and volunteers everywhere.  We all need to be aware of potential problems regardless of the race or even training sesion.   Don't avoid it Suzy...DO IT!

Heck.. give the RD a call and express your concern.  You might get him to realize he may have been slacking and needs to pick it up.  Here's his name and number; Frank Dobbs 262.275.3577.  I'll call him if you want.

To piggyback what John just said (well done there buddy!)....

How is it any different than a workout/training day.  You are still going to watch out for cars, you carry your own nutrition when you workout?

I know "RACING" is different, and you don't want to worrry about anything (which is right!), but we should always be aware of our surrounding anyways.  Why did the USAT drop?  Are they really concerned about this guy and the races he does?

Hang in there, and focus on Suzy.  Let this guy worry about what he does.  Heck, if you want to come to Seattle and do the Lake Steven's 70.3 you have a place to stay!  Come on over!  That is a well organized event!

I thought of one caveat Suzy. If the event has trouble with bikes being stolen then I would skip it. Otherwise I stand by my earlier opinion.

Okay everyone, I finally got my race results from last weekend and finished my report.  Parts of the race were good- parts not so good (that's putting it mildly!).  But I had fun, and was officially 2:35 faster.  Hey, it's faster!!

Finally, getting caught up...

Rob, congrats on the new job!

Shannon, way to bite the bullet on the sprint.

Tony, $500.  With the stock market heading down again I'd be buying.  And what are you building the OS for?

Steve, I think the poster is AWESOME as is.  And rather than tracking emails I'll gladly put it on my web server when you are done and then we could simply provide a link here for everybody to grab it.

Doug, I'd like to see an action photo, but quite frankly, I get a little chuckle every time I see the dork pic!Wink

I stay away from investing in things that are purely based on whether or not the general populace is happy or scared..

The OS is a little side project I am working on for a friends company, Windows embedded OS for some thin clients, as with all M$ products it is a royal pain to work with.

I miss getting to be a real programmer these days.

I like this a lot.  And I had no idea that was really you.  I like it even more knowing that!  The female winner is awesome, but I agree with Tony we want the SWBKRUN Big Hoo Ha!

A good post from a local road racing mailing list, someone asked a question about cadence, what should my cadence be.  Lots of references to road cycling but I think it applies to Tri's also.  I noticed this when I got my power meter.  While it is impressive to ride at 300 watts, at say 80RPM to go 25 mph, you are pushing out 300 watts which is a lot of power to be using.

If you can ride 250 watts at say 90 - 95 RPM and also go 25 mph you are saving 50 watts but going the same speed.

In the end this saves you energy that will be available for you during the ride and run.  On my road bike I was always trying to keep it at 80RPM which meant I was mashing it more than spinning.  Now I find I am usually in the 95RPM range and using much less energy overall.

Does this make sense?

Steve - Awesome poster.  I am in with Tracy for an autographed print.  It has to be of you even if the girl that won the race was hot.

Suzy- B2B is in November  Tracy and I would love for you to come down to Wilmington.  I raced an Olympic that the distances were off - totally took away from the race.  I left mad.  You don't want that on a HIM.

Wow Steve!! I like both pictures.  The one with the female winner is just a great photo, positioning is off-center - I like it.  But I have to agree, that the one of you makes the photo so much more personal.  I like both quotes, but I think I'm a bit more partial to the 'effort' quote.

It does make sense, Tony.  I usually spin at 80 but what you're saying is that if I can spin at 90 but gear down, to where it is still comfortable in effort, I will save my legs and not have to push the same amount of watts or exert as much energy?  Do you think it is possible to keep your cadence at 90 on your road bike as opposed to your tri bike?  I think I will try that this weekend and see how it feels on my brick run.  Thanks.

Exactly

Maybe because I am paying attention now I do spin more on both bikes.  It just feels better to spin more vs mash.

I am sure though there is a sweet spot for everyone.  I wouldn't recommend upping it to 110 like Lance and some others, as that would tire you out in other ways but for me 90-95 is where I find myself spinning comfortably vs where I was at 80 before.

I do this because I'm lucky enough to have a wife that gets up at 5am when June is crying because I had a hard a day and I don't "feel" like getting up.

I do this because I'm scared out of my wits of failing.

I do this because I read some stupid quote like "can't means won't" and I think that pertains to me.

I do this because cbarnes1 motivates me.   Don't you ever edit a post like that again!

I do this because I have an addictive personality and believe me, this addiction will add plus years to my life compared to stuff I've done in the past.

I do this because I love the feeling of breathlessness I get after a hard tempo run!

I do this because I love the way my body feels 8 feet tall after blasting through a 3000 yard swim workout.

I do this because I know I am a better, more patient, compassionate and loving person as long as I get my 9 workouts/week in.
