Regular 96 Augusta, GA | Subject: Update since my bike crash...... Hi All, Just checking back in. I've been following your posts all week. And, yes, it has been with mixed emotions. If you missed the big news, I'm the unlucky guy who had a spectacular solo bike crash last Saturday and injured myself badly enough to effectively put myself in the DNS category. Glad to see that everyone has made it to Taper Time. I know it's a good feeling. I wish I was there. I feel like I've lost 6 months of fitness in the past 7 days. I started my Therapeutic Yoga today and I'm already feeling better, both physically and mentally. As things get crazy on this forum over the next couple weeks with everyone's Taper Madness I'll try to find time to update you on my progress, even as I follow yours. Best regards, Randy Cantu |

New user 6 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hello ya'll Since Gatorade is not a Ironman sponsor anymore, there's no Gatorade practice swim. Has anyone heard of some organized swim practice at Coeur d'Alene. I've done two IM and those Gatorade practice swims were fun to be at. Thanks |

Member 176 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Last 2 1/2 hr run was scheduled for this morning...started at 4am and it was 99 degrees already with 70% humidity. Ran the first hour at race pace then had to back right off for half hour then call it a day as it was already over 100! Wasn't what I was hoping for for my last long run but it is what it is. I now have a regular week this week before flying out on Friday. Will try and get a 5-6 hr ride in on Sunday followed by a 2 hr run Monday or Tuesday (depending on how I feel after crossing 11 time zones and traveling for over 24 hrs). Then it's taper for me. If I don't get the full time in, I won't stress about it. I have had a pretty good run of 5 months and now just looking to get back to North America, turned around on time, ready for race day! (The Arabian Gulf was 82 degrees this morning when I swam here so not much help in adjusting to the cold water ) |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread WaterDog66 - 2011-06-02 1:03 PM Question for the Cool Kids: What Ironman Race are you all planning on doing in 2012. Will you be signing up for CdA 2012 on Saturday, or maybe you are planning on getting in the queue to sign up for a different race. There might be one or two of us that are just going to be glad that it is over and swear off forever this silly notion of the Ironman. I ask because now is the time to solidify those plans. Remember that registration is 1 year in advance and we all need to be Johnny on the Spot when it comes to getting registered for our followup race. One option that I have done in the past and will very likely be doing this year is to volunteer for my target race and get registration priority for the following year. (I am going to try and get into IMMoo in 2012)
I am wrestling with IM Texas in 2012. Swore I won't sign up for another IM til this one is done but everyday want more and more to do IMTX next year. |

I am wrestling with IM Texas in 2012. Swore I won't sign up for another IM til this one is done but everyday want more and more to do IMTX next year. DO IT!! 20 miler done this morning--didn't try to push hard, just run it comfortable, and it went super super. Definitely a good confidence builder! Oh, a mental training tip I use--sometimes my right quad gets this odd dull pain in the last few bits of a long run. I'm convinced it's 75% mental (not sure where it comes from, but it comes) and if I imagine ice melting it away--pain goes bye bye. This was something a sports psychologist taught me, so thought I'd share the wealth. Please ignore if you're in the W30-34 AG... (j/k) |

New user 42 Louisville, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Well, my plan had been to fly in Friday morning and drive from Spokane right to registration. With that notice in the athlete guide (and other places) saying you must be registered by Friday 4pm or no racing, I changed my travel plans and will now fly in Thursday. Will just have to explain things to my boss at my new job. A group of us have been flying back and forth from Louisville to Madison pretty much every week for 2 months. Every single person has had at least 1 major problem, and some people seemed cursed and can't seem to get back and forth with out 2-3 things going wrong. So I freaked out last night and changed my reservations for plane, hotel and rental car for a day earlier. Surprisingly easy to get everything done, though I had to fork over another $230 to Delta. Race anxiety down 2 points, job anxiety up 0.5 points. I can live with that. Hope to make the group swim Friday am. |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread At the end of my 20 miler today, I looked in the car mirror and discovered (as expected) that I was covered in dead gnats. There were swarms of them all over the route (a 5 mile loop around a lake) today---but I didn't realize HOW MANY were on me. I just looked at them, wiped them off, and said gross, but whatever if it's nasty, cause the honey badger would probably just eat them and say "protein" because he's naasstty.... Look at what you people have done to me.... |

Oh, also made a wish and threw a penny in a wishing well...... |

Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Had a pretty good week in spite of the fact that it started out with a day of Canydassing and finished up with me floating in the pool in Palm Springs. (The weather was awesome) I got in 2 great runs in the warm but not super hot weather and was able to stay very cool the whole time: Swim: 7000.00 M 2h 10m 42s Bike: 225.00 Mi 11h 42m 57s Run: 70.00 Mi 9h 04m 53s Spin Class: 1h Total: 23h 58m 32s One more week of training for this kid. The week just finished pushed up the intensity a bit and the final week of training cranks it up a bit more. The added intensity will carry through the first part of my taper. Train Well Cool Kids and maybe see some of you at the BT practice swims. (Hint, I do wear sneakers but am not a red hairy monster with no arms) |

My hope is that they take a que from Ironman Arizona and serve french fries at the finish line feast. |

Very clear and great vision. |

Expert 1006 Kansas City, MO | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread On that tidbit about goggles, I had been having problems with mine fogging up.... I use spit but sometimes that does not seem to work. However, upon googling it I found that baby shampoo works, just rinse out well..... Tried it this weekend with a 4000 meter swim, it was the clearest my goggles have been in forever.... |

Regular 183 Parker, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I got through my big training day yesterday and took off all day today to celebrate my little guy's birthday, so it's been a good peak weekend. I'm now into bike taper, but I'm only going to do a two week taper on the run and one week on the swim, since my peak volume isn't as high as I had hoped. If only this were a HIM instead of a full, I'd feel great about where I'm at... I plan to join the Friday morning swim only, since we get to town on Thursday mid day. I second the advice for having a good plan to prevent goggle fogging in the cold water... in my OW swims right now, my goggles are fogging like never before due to the cold water temps. Definitely come prepared, that swim is going to be hard enough without being able to see. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread So my epic weekend is in the books. Friday- So I decided to bike from just outside of Grand Rapids MI to South Bend IN. Went to inflate my tires and notice a giant tear in the rear tire probably from so much trainer time. Grab another tire off my road bike and we are good to go...unitl my next door neighbors house where I stopped to talk to her and noticed my clincher was not completely clinched in the back so back home I go. Okay we are off. My google maps in hand with 73 turns and 112 miles exact to go. 6.5 miles in it has me turning on a dirt road. So I figure head south and a bit west. Next up a road under construction so I have to back track a few miles. Finally start heading south on a road that I know will take me a while. Then go gas station to gas station to keep finding my way as google had me going 30 miles on a dirt rails to trails trail. Finally after 8 hours and at least 15 stops and 120 miles arrive in South Bend. Saturday- Wake up cracker early and run the Sunburst Marathon. Mile 1 I could tell it would be hot an humid. Kept it easy the whole time wanted to be 4hrs ish and ended up 4:15ish. The course was very IM ish with lots of turns and out and backs seeing everyone a lot. They first red flagged the race due to heat and then black flagged it around 11:15 AM shutting it down completely.
Sunday- Woke up and went to swim finding my sleeveless wetsuit with a giant rip in the back. Swam 4300 and finished my weekend Ironman with a combined time of 13:35 One more long ride and let the taper begin!!! Edited by Shermbelle 2011-06-05 11:01 PM |
