Yeah, not sure how to interpret that but it does look like the tide will be approaching slack while we're in the water, so not much help or hurt is likely..

Among other things, I've undercooked my swim training..where's a good B2B current when you need it?

I've actually become a much better swimmer in the last year.

That being said, I'll still be ~20 minutes slower than B2B in 2011. That current was silly fast.

I'd like to see the water temps drop another degree or 2 but I doubt that will happen.

Still none in sight. Ran again along our swim course and not only was the water the flatest I can ever remember it being in January, but also no evil critters were in view through the crystal clear waters, or on shore. I am going out in my wetsuit on Sunday, so I can give an up close and personal report then. Of course our weather can change fast, but the long range forecast (right now) looks pretty good. Hopefully you all are prepared if it is warm, since it has also been unusually humid for this time of year. Bring your hydration goodies.

Got down to marathon yesterday, ran an ez 4 after driving for two days and sweat like a dog in the 83 degree heat Rode 40 today through a couple of brief showers and had a blast. Weather is awesome, beats the zero I left two days ago. Looking forward to enjoying the taper down here and the race in a week and a day. Travel safe.

How is the shoulder on Highway 1 looking?  Is it relatively smooth and/or clear of debris? Pretty wide?

Thanks.

Less than a week and we will be done or on our way to being done.  I've got to get busy and make a packing list before I lose my mind.

I dropped my bike off at the last minute for shipping and almost forgot to put my race wheels on! No telling what I'll show up in KW without.

We are reluctantly driving down there   We plan to leave Wednesday and stop in Fort Lauderdale for the night then wake up early Thursday and drive to Key West.  I'd like to do a short swim and ride Thursday.

Went for a swim this morning with wetsuit, the water was nice (actually 75 today) and no sign of jelly fish or man-o-war. So unless they sneak in through the dark of night between now and Saturday, that is one less annoyance. It is really warm though (I mean air temp) 82 degrees right now. This is the warmest January I can ever remember her and I have been here over 12 years. A little more humid than usual too for the winter. Today was breezy. Right now about 13 mph but I am guessing when I was on my bike it was more like 15 to 17. Anyway, you just never know.

The shoulder is so so and there are places where is is almost non-existent, so I am not sure what the organizers are thinking, but hopefully drivers will be on their best behavior. Debris is another thing. Maybe they are going to clean it, but not sure it is an clean as they are implying it is. Finally, just as a heads up, in the paper today the guy that started the BIT (not Set Up) says that Monroe County Sheriff's Department may stop cyclists for traffic. This is a crock and it happened at the KWTRI last year, but not this year. There were some pretty ticked athletes. The quote was that the pros would not be stopped because they are the only ones that the time really counts for, but once they have passed, the Sheriff's Dept. can stop the athletes. So, be mentally prepared for the frustration. Hopefully it won't happen but it can and has in the past.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but wanted you to at least be forewarned.

Safe travels

Thanks for the heads up on the potential traffic issue.  I hope for the sake of this race they don't stop those of us competing.  Just because I'm not a pro doesn't mean my time doesn't count.  It's hard enough to get people to sign up for a race right after the holiday season much less if the cops are stopping the comptitors.  I understand stopping for emergency vehicles.

The sometimes non existent shoulder on the only road to the keys during the peak tourist season kind of rattles me a bit. I hope there is a good plan by the RD and police. I'll probably be over everything when I get to the airport thursday AM. Gotta go work on packing! Happy race week all! Topo, thanks for the update (even if it was debbie downer!)

Where the shoulder is narrow, the main thing will be to take care passing other cyclists I think..sharing a road with cars is no big deal but if you're passing someone, it's really important they know you're there. Swerving or being pushed out over the white line and into traffic could make for a real mess if a driver isn't paying attention.

For some reason, I have more flats when I'm riding in Florida...I'm just gonna take it for granted the bike course major-domo has the good sense to clear the shoulder of debris as much as possible.

Fingers seriously crossed for a cold snap - !

Happy travels, mes amis...

Too early to start looking at the weather forecasts?

Personally, I prefer the one from weather.com to weatherunderground - much less wind forecast in the former!

The humidity % is pretty stout - Time to dig deep into the 'stay cool' bag o' tricks..

Not too early for me I've been looking at the forecast for days now.

We are heading out tomorrow morning and driving to Miami then getting a hotel for the night.  Does anyone want to try and meet up Thursday or Friday?

I usually use the Weather Underground site but it is scaring me, so I am not going to look anymore. The wind has picked up from almost nothing this morning to about 16 mph now and supposed to come in stronger tomorrow. I certainly hope the WU is wrong in their predictions of 20-25 mph. That is just not fun. Water has gotten a bit warmer too-right now is 75.9 degrees.

Safe trips everyone.

Not a fan of the wind but looking at those forecasts they sure look a lot better than the snow covered 25 degrees I am seeing out my window right now Tongue out

Plane leaves 5:50 am on Thursday, arriving 12:40PM to Key West and warm weather!

Funny they did it in alphabetical order, other than the last minute add ons.

It is 81 degrees at 10:00 am and winds at 16 mph. Weather still forecasting 19-20 mph but clear and warm. Hoping they keep reducing the wind speed though.

Safe trip to all and have fun!!!!
