Good luck Lil-turtle and Atl_runner!!!  Sounds like both of you should have a good time.

I'm in the same boat as PeterAK.  Wife is out of town for the weekend, so I'm planning a long run on Saturday and a long bike on Sunday.  Add in some napping and cleaning for my "to do" list and my weekend will be complete.

Ok, I know this is a little strange but ...... panic is setting in!!!

Only three weeks to go to my first Oly, my "A" race for the year and what all this training has been about and I'm starting to get nervous. I've got two weeks of hard training to do before tapering it back up to the event and I think i'm right on the cusp of my sub-3hr target - if it goes right, i'll do it. if it goes wrong, I won't. Simple as that really ..... but I really want to nail the time

anyway, nervous rant over. time to finish up a project and head home for running - bring on the intervals!

okay.. i've been dropping the ball for the past weeks.. I'm determine to get my act together and start training again!! My knee still right knee still hurts for some reason so I'm afraid to do too much running with it... is there any suggestions on making it heal faster? My goal for the rest of this week will be to bike and swim everyday to get back into training.

I would suggest two things for your knee pain.

1. Weights, Leg specific. Strengthen the supporting muscles of the Knee, generally leads to a more stabilized knee where pain is not as prevalent.

2. Ice Ice Ice.. you should be icing any area that's sore, at least once daily. Assuming this soreness is from activity and not just general soreness. If it's general soreness not stemming from activity, then I would see a doctor. I might see one anyway if you have not already.

Remeber.. Ice is your best friend. If you ice, you will see results, almost guaranteed. Almost.

I was going to suggest ice, but atl beat me to it....taking the time to ice regularly has been a huge help for me!

Graycat- I was going to say something like don't be worried or don't panic but I know if I were in your shoes I'd be panicking like crazy...so I got nothin!

Everyone- My race report from the weekend is up, so you should all go check out the awesomeness!

Greycat, that is fantastic. Looks like the running is going great. Remember, we all have that one event where we are strongest. Very few of us are balanced and strong at two or more events, though it can happen. What I am trying to say is during the run phase of your upcoming Tri, kill it.. give it your all. That very well could be what brings you below your goal of 3h. I know you can do it. Your mile times say so.

I might be out there this sunday to cheer people on....I'll let you know so we can maybe figure out a place to meet in person.

I'm not doing anymore racing for a while.  I'm considering doing the Steamboat tri on 8/26 but the distances are scaring me too much to actually sign up.  It's a .75 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 4 mile run.  Not quite up to oly distances but significantly longer than my last race.  I'm working on talking myself in to signing up for it but I can't seem to actually go through with it!  I gotta make up my mind soon though before it sells out.  As of today there's about 100 spots left but they're expecting those to fill up pretty fast after the Boulder Peak this weekend.

Go Forrest!  Goals look good.

I'm doing the Racine half Ironman on Sunday.  Last year this was the big race of the season and this year with IMOO coming up it is just a blip on the radar.  Feeling stressed out about IMOO so hoping to get a confidence boost out of this.  Legs are a bit tired so going to go easy the rest of the week.  When I crossed the finish line last year I had no desire to do a full IM.  Two days later, over beers, I decided I wanted to finish an IM.  So here I am!  Went 5:57:51 last year, hoping to go 5:45 this year without breaking myself, with the biggest gains to be had on the run.  Wish me luck!

It'd be great to finally meet you Turtle!!  I'll be wearing a green Javelin uniform & when I know my race number, I'll send it your way.

Peter - I can't imagine doing and IM!!!  Knowing what your training has been like, I'm sure you'll do well in Racine on Sunday.  I'll definitely be interested in hearing how well prepared you feel for your IM after this weekend's race.

Peter,

You have done so much good solid training and racing already that you will do great in your half! I bet you go much lower than even your predicted time. I am thinking 5:30. Go Peter go!

The Boulder Peak is a pretty popular race. It's on my radar to do sometime. Good luck at that one TFT.. not to be a downer, but is that the same race where the two guys crashed a couple years back, one ended up under a car.. That's all I remember. Either way, be safe on some of those screaming downhills. I hit 40+mph 2x last weekend. Scary stuff.

Also, good luck to you PeterAK. If this turns out to be a confidence booster, then awesome, but if not, don't pay much attention to it. As you already know, it amounts to a long training day. I've done two this season, and while I did well at both, I'm approaching IM as a completely different animal. Probably didn't need to be said, but sometimes we can get caught up in a single performance, when in the grand scheme of what is IM training, it doesn't mean much.

I have a 16 mile run and a 75 mile bike scheduled for this weekend. Then a century ride the next weekend. Times, they are getting tough.

Freakin' animal!!!

Yeah, two years ago there were a couple guys coming down the backside of Old Stage Hill and they drifted into the oncoming lane which happened to have oncoming traffic.  There is now a speed limit of 35 mph until we get through that section.  It is a bit dangerous, but definitely manageable if you keep your wits about you.  On a lighter note there was a racer who hit a black bear during this race last year.  IF I recall correctly, she was going between 35-40 MPH.  She got some good road rash, but managed to finish the race after getting cleaned up by the paramaedics.

I/We have gotta give a shout out to our very own Bill Manduca!!!  I was just looking over the list of people running for regional USAT board of directors and who's name do I see.  You guessed it... One of our "Locals" is running for USAT's Regional Southeastern Board of directors.  If you're in the SE region, you oughta at least give Bill a pat on the back, if not a vote.  Anyone willing to participate with USAT in the growth and development of our sport should be recognized.

Take a bow, Mr. Bill Manduca!!!!

Thank you for your kind words. I am eager to help push the multsport lifestyle forward in our region. I have developed a friendship with the current president and he asked me if I would be interested in serving and I said sure, so he encouraged me to send in my petition for a spot on the board. I am currently a USAT Ambassador promoting membership sign up.

Thanks for your encouragement, and I hope all y'all will support me in the election.

I am just about ready to get back into the training groove as I think I am ready to test my calf muscle again. If not for this, that I am about to go nuts just sitting around. I miss working out.

atl_runner - 2007-07-18 12:59 PM Very few of us are balanced and strong at two or more events, though it can happen.

I couldn't agree more with this.  The day before our last race, I told Ron (atl_runner) that I THOUGHT I was evenly balanced at all 3 sports.  Maybe at one time earlier this year I was.  However, an analysis of my results say that I'm a great swimmer and I need the most work on my bike.

This is my first year of triathlons.  I never swam before this.  I biked for a few years a long time ago and ran cross country in college.  I THOUGHT that running would be my strongest, followed by cycling, followed by swimming.  I THOUGHT that, given my training results, I was a pretty strong cyclist.

Race results speak volumes. In my last tri, I was in the top 20% coming out of the water.  After the bike, I was right at 50% and improved just a little on the run.

My point is, despite what I thought, my true strength right now is my swim, followed by my running followed way behind by my bike.

I had a huge training weekend that went pretty well all things considered. Training volume just keeps climbing from here. 103 mile ride coming up this weekend. Woo Hoo!

Well, the race report is up .  It didn't go as planned, but it was still a good day.  I figure any race I finish is a good one, right?  Even though I didn't make my goals, I was still about 4 minutes faster than last year, so that's a step in the right direction!

Hey Gang!  Sorry I didn't check in earlier.  Had a fantastic race on Sunday, cut over 23 minutes off of my time from last year, finishing with a 5:34:28 and feeling great.  Successfull nutrition tune up for IMWI.  After this success I'm more excited about September!  Race report is HERE.

Forrest, looks like you had a good day too!  Always progress to be made but as long as we are getting faster life is good.

My training will really kick up the next few weeks.  My longest run and ride are this weekend, with a three hour run Sunday and a 5:45 ride Saturday.  Good times ahead!
