I just ordered a Garda 55, and hubby got a Parma 59 (no more Garda in his size - a sore subject around here).  But I am excited to get them.  This is my first road bike.

Does anyone know if Geoff and the guys ever sell groupsets by themselves. The bike I purchased through them has the xenon group and was wandering if they would ever sell the Veloce group as a stand alone?

Thanks a lot. This thread just cost me $379! I was going to plod through my first triathlon season on a crappy mtn. bike, but I decided to pony up some plastic cash and do it in style instead. I, too, bought the 55 Garda -- the last one in that size supposedly. Geoff talked me into that instead of the Parma, which also seemed like an incredible deal. I was really tempted because of the aero bars. Oh well, guess I can add some later.

At least the DFL finisher in my upcoming triathlons will be on a sweet ride now!

By the way, talking to my LBS, they were suggesting that I go right into the clipless pedals. Right now, I'm only riding on a stationary bike so I haven't done much road biking on pedals with clips, normal pedals or clipless. What do you suggest?

Actually, by my accounting the thread saved you $800!

Your budget is going to dictate what kind of clipless pedals and shoes you get. You can conceivably stay under $100 with SPD pedals and closeout shoes.

To answer the groupsets question. No. You can only buy other stuff through their dealers. Talked to him today about some of their wheels and he said I would have to visit my local dealer to buy anything other than closeout bikes.

i got speedpaly pedals for my varese. i'd never been ina clipless pedal before, and like you I had been spending all my time on a stationary. I found the speedplays very easy to use, and comfortable. They run a little over a hundred dollars, and I got some shoes for about $90.More than I wanted to spend, but I like the outcome better than what was in my original plan. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys .... I'll have to go check out the Speedplays and SPD stuff. My friend told me we have a Pearl Izumo (sp?) outlet store in Park City, so I'll have to go see if they have any deals going on or discount shoes.

I had to do 16 miles yesterday on the stationary bike --- talk about painful (more to the brain than the legs). I can't wait to rid that sucker hasta la vista! I can't wait ride my bike hasta pronto! I only have until May 31 to get my big ol' booty used to riding on a tiny seat for miles.

Oh yeah, thanks Bear for the thread and SAVING me $800! I should have phrased it that way in the thread cause you know that's how I sold it to my wife.

I'm a member of the Javelin club now too! Thanks for the heads-up, Bear.

My Parma is now going to be my commuter/beater bike.

Cheapest place I've found is probikekit.com and a '07 Veloce groupset (less the brakes) is $404.  I've not bought anything from these guys.

Thanks Bear, just ordered a Parma all the way up here in Canada. Supposed to take max 15 business days, hopefully sooner. Sure beats my dads 20 year old road bike....

I'm 5'5" 140lbs evenly proportioned male triathlete w/ 28.5" inseam. Would a 51cm Javelin Varese fit me?

Scrappy I would call and ask. I'm 5'5 too and I have the 51 and it's fine, but I think my inseam is longer.

Did anyone route their cables through the aerobars on the Varese?
I dropped my bike off at the LBS today to have it done, the mech. said he wasn't sure if it would work right, and that he would call me in the morning. Just wondering if anyone else had tried.

CKinsey - 2008-04-11 6:19 PM Did anyone route their cables through the aerobars on the Varese?

Yes, I rerouted my shifter cables through the aerobar extensions. About 2" below the  ends is a hole for the cables to go into. It's a bit of a PITA since both derailer cables need to  be pulled and the extensions need to be re-wrapped, but it's well worth it in the "cleanliness" department. I also shortened up the cable housings so they fit right (and keep my bars from crashing my top tube).

Did anyone get a confirmation number or tracking number when their bike was shipped? I ordered mine and they didn't give me anything. Just told me to expect the bike by Friday.

Of the 8 that co-workers have purchased no one had a tracking number and all but one were ordered in the morning and showed up the next day (to Michigan).

You can call them back and they will give you a tracking number. That is how I got mine.
