Today I feel more in control. Strange part is the workout window of workout food. I went to the Y for a class, than ran then did weights. I knew I needed pre workout food so I had my healthy granola bar but it sort of felt like I was cheating but I wasn't. I find it easier to be black or white with food so the gray area of workouts makes it harder mentally but I know it is much better for my body to give it fuel to workout.

After dinner, I overcame a big tempation...yummy desert in a 9x13 pan with a lid on it. Stupid me took the lid off, smelled it, saw it, wanted some, moved my hand towards a crumb on the side, but I said no, it isn't worth it, put the top back on and walked away. I mental victory reinforcing my no to tempations..next tempation will be easier.

Some of you are only tempted at work as your kitchen/homes are sugar free. We have 5 kids and I can't expect them to eat like me so we have stuff in the house.  Real life is I have crap, sugar, soda that I can eat any time I want some things are tempting others not so much.

Be strong everyone..next two days will be full of tempations. Is the ding worth it?

Grat Job Kathy,

I am proud of you and everyone. That yeast thing is just plain strange sounds like an urban legend. Keep it up!

I read somewhere that a high sugar diet encourages a population explosion of yeast throughout the body.  After all, what do yeast eat?  Answer: Sugar.  If someone suddenly cuts sugar from their diet, there is a massive die off of yeast within the body.  Toxins released from the billions of dead and decomposing yeast cause us to get headaches and feel like crap for a few days until the dead yeast and associated toxins are gone.

I either caught a stomach bug from my daughter or it's the toxins from the diet yeast (probably both) but I've had the runs (cha cha cha) all day, and I actually left work early.  Matter of fact, I just got out of bed for the first time in 5 hours.  I feel like I have the worlds worst hangover.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I goofed yesterday - and my conscience is eating away at me: I ate a piece of gum.  Dentyne Ice Sugarless to be exact.  I'm going to use my mulligan.  Afterall gum is candy (right?!) and it has aspartame in it, and we said no artificial sweetners.  I mean, you don't eat gum, but gum is synonymous with candy - and you do ingest the ingedients.

Oh man I feel like crap.  A wicked headache.  I took tylenol before I left work - and it did nothing.  I took an aleve a couple of hours ago - and it too did nothing.  I also want to apologize for my Joe the Slacker behind the baker comments; I'll blame it on the yeast toxins clouding my brain

Anyone know what Brown Rice Syrup is?  It's in my Kashi bars, it's like the 8 ingredients down, but I'm guessing that's sugar?

any reason why it won't let me open it?  is there a secret?

BTW, my food meal choices weren't great (bagel egg sandwich, trader joes flatbread pizza) but I DID make it through the day drinking only water, tea, and orange juice.

I can be such a dingleberry.

So on Monday night I was thinking this challenge isn't going to be too bad.  I can stop eating chocolate, etc

Do you know what I was doing while I was thinking that?

Eating a handful of Tostitos! Embarassed

I had the same question about the rice syrup stuff.  It's in Clif Bars.  But I figure I'm safe because I only have those right before training.

Confession time. I got my first ding yesterday, and it was an accidental one at the time. I had lunch at Atlanta Bread Company and had soup with the holiday turkey sandwich - which had cranberry sauce on it. I had already started eating it when I realized it. Yes, it is one that I could have done without too!

I am taking my Mulligan tomorrow, and I am going to do the best that I can today. Good Luck everyone, AND

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Wish me strength, I'm making Christmas cookies with my daughters. I know it is a dangerous line but my kids come first and I need to be strong.

My husband just came home with fresh blueberries, blackberries, grapes, bananas, apples and sweet potatoes.

Today is my first day of two runs in one day...one done 4 miles later in the sleet on slushy icy roads.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone..enjoy special time with loved ones.

One of my co-workers passed out individual baggies of candy to all of us.  Now, I have candy sitting on my desk.  Oh, the torture!!  If they don't let us out early today, I may end up with a ding!

I have candy and baked goods coming out my ears, but no dings. Last night I opened up a baggie of no bake cookies they are my favorite. Put my hand in the bag and pulled out in shame. My wife was like why could they not wait a week, that's the point.

The headaches are tapering off. Question since Christmas is also my birthday can I have two pieces of cake?

Keep up the great work folks!

Yes, you are definitely safe with the clif bar if it is an hour before, during training or an hour after.  As for the Tostito's ... they're not neccesarily junk food as they border on being crackers, and crackers - Wheat thins and Triscuits, etc... are allowed.  Crackers are not junk food.

You can have 2 pieces of cake, but then that is using your Mulligan and b-day freebie.  Why not use your b-day freebie and then save your mulligan for another day?

Great idea hopefully I'll never use the mulligan. I will have a very small piece of cake for my mom's sake.

Was it natural cranberry sauce?  If so, you're okay.  How do you know it specifically had sugar as a top three ingredient?

Today feels torturous. I don't know why??? All I am thinking about is sweets. Oranges were freakin $6.99 for an 8 pound bag. Last week I bought the same bag for 2.99. Hoping a banana can help me with the craving.

Good luck to all on making it another day! We can do it! We are strong!!

Typically the first ingredients of cranberry sauce are cranberries and sugar.  I bought organic cranberries last week in hopes of making homemade cranberry sauce, but I dont think it's possible to make it without sugar!  I'll have to search online.

I tried this last year and actually prefer it over regular cranberry sauce.

Blend cranberries, orange zest a couple shakes of cinnamon and honey to taste. It turns out more like a relish than a cranberry sauce. It's really nice on turkey and way lower than sugar.

I spent some time reading labels at the grocery store this morning.  I can't believe how much high fructose corn syrup is being put in our food!  Did anyone hear Coach Bob Harper from the Biggest Loser advise everyone at home to go through their cupboards and throw away anything that contains high frutose corn syrup?  Then within a couple days the corn syrup industry began bombarding the airwaves with damage control advertising telling everyone that high fructose corn syrup is not really any different than sugar & should just be used in moderation.

I don't believe the ads but Bob. If you look at incidence of diabetics and other illness related to sugar consumption when American food companies changed from regular sugar to high fructose corn syrup all those type illnesses went up.  I think but am not really sure but it has to do with the glycemic index and it is like it hits your blood stream so much faster then regular sugar.

The sad thing is it is hard to find products that are healthy and without it.

We as family try to buy basic staples and as little processed food as possible....veggies, fruit, meat all don't have that stuff. If you bake or make most of your food from basic ingredients you can avoid all that stuff that is added plus food is much less expensive when it isn't processed.

Happy Holidays Everyone! Anybody else toying with the idea of not taking the mulligan tomorrow. I am at my mother's the whole day. I just don't see it happening as she has some great pies usually. If there is anything with chocalate I may be done for. But no dings so far, almost got lazy and ate a bagel this morning which I could of claimed was within an hour of my workout, but went with the oatmeal instead. So it is paying off. I have also switched to fresh veggies at lunch with my sandwich and using bread that "qualifies" although sugar is number four. I can't see tossing a whole loaf of bread. I will buy the Pepperidge Farm or a similar bette bread on my next trip. Luckily, I bought triscuits and a few crazckers that were on sale last time I was at store.

Bottom line is better choice that I am making. I posted my Week 2 Pictures. I am 282 today down from 294. Last week's picture I was 288. Not sure if you can see much difference yet, but I can feel it.

I had a little headache today, but I'm so proud of myself for doing so good! Last night, with everyone around me indulging, I resisted ice cream, pecan pie, and some sort of "cake" made from ice cream sandwiches and caramel sauce. The great part is, I didn't REALLY "want" it, all because of this challenge!!! What a great idea, DC!

Am I the only one who has more than one holiday gathering to go to? Tonight, we're visiting (and eating) with one side of my family; tomorrow (all stinking day) we'll be with the other side...so I am waiting to scope out the desserts to see IF and WHEN I want to use my pass! I've already survived being with my husband's family, but they aren't big on sweets...

I have replaced the organic evaporated cane juice crystals that I normally use in my coffee with honey...just one-half teaspoon! And the big deal about that is that I'm actually happy with it, not just tolerating it!

I'm sorry to go on and on, but I am really excited about this and enjoying it...well, everything except the annoying headache that the Advil hasn't helped with!

Thats awesome Pam. I would love to hear more changes people have made. It always gives me some good ideas. Luckily, I only have one gathering, but it is an all day affair. I am going to the gym tomorrow at 5 am to get my work out in, as I promised to be there by 11 am at the latest.

One trick I have found with coffee, is if I use a high grade coffee, I don't want milk or sugar. I get Gevalia coffee's delivered and they are wonderful. I wouldn't put milk or sugar in them because I like the flavor, but that may be unrealistic for most. If you are drinking plain old folgers canned maybe try grinding your own.

I just came back from the store.....2nd ingredient on the "natural craisins" SUGAR!  I found a raisin/nut/seed mix in the bulk section that did not have any kinds of sugars added.  Yummy!

Tomorrow we are invited for dessert at a friend's house.  Should be interesting to see if I take my mulligan or not.
