Started to pack for the trip to Wildflower, but it's late and I'm tired despite being a scheduled rest day. Will finish packing tomorrow after spin class and a short pool swim and then off to Lake San Antonio.

Have to finish packing myself.  Bryan will be here in a couple hours and we'll be driving down.

Joel, not sure if you'll see this, but we'll be in Redondo Vista H with the GGTC.   I'll PM you my cell.

Joel and Donato - good luck at Wildflower. Have fun!

Ya good luck you guys and tell us about the course, I am planning on hitting that HIM one of these years.  The hill of death I hear should be particularly fun.  Temps have been on the cool side up here, so hopefully they are that way down there as well.

Long weekend for me, Fri swim 3000 yards (timed), Sat 80 mile bike 3.3 mile brick, Sunday 13.6 mlies at IM pace.  I think I am ready for bed now.   Of course it had to be windy 15 -25 mph, cold 40's an drizzle on and off both days.  I slightly under dressed for the bike and on the run I went from cold to hot to cold to hot to cold etc. depending on how much it was raining or not raining.  I think I am ready for warm.  Just wait 2 months and I will be complaining about 90s 8).

Yowza!! Sleep well tonight (if your body can settle down!). GREAT weekend. It is so hard training in in-between weather like that where you go hot/cold all the time. We get a lot of that -- 40's/50's and light rain. Ick. July 4 is when summer (i.e. reliable sunshine) truly starts for us. Til then it's just teaser sunshine...

Looking forward to hearing about the races!!

Hi everyone.  Quick update.

Met Joel in transition before the race because we were racked right next to each other!  Did great on the long course.  I believe the official results are off by 5 minutes (i.e. one wave).  Race clock time was just under 6:17.  Had a 55 minute offset for my wave so that should put me at just under 5:22 (official results show me at just under 5:27).  Official results were correct since they had reset the race clock.  Final time was just under 5:27.

Olympic went pretty well also.  2:45:03.  This was very difficult to do because of the race the day before, but I definitely can't complain about the results.  Photos and RR to come!

QOTD: last week I asked about tapering; today, it's a question about post-race recovery.  What special things do you do in the days/weeks after a race?  How long before you get back into training?

Post race = large ice cold coke if it was a hot one, otherwise large chocolate shake.  Depending on the race as to how long to before I start up again.  If the race was a full mary or HIM it will be  a couple days of walking, a couple days of lite bike riding or swimming and then some lite jogging around day 5 if I am good.  For the first marathon I did in January I didn't feel good running more than 9-10 miles until 2 weeks after the event.  For the HIM I was good to go after about 4-5 days for whatever and up to a recovery level week after 1 week.  For next month's HIM I will hopefully recover quicker as I am in better shape.

First thing I do is usually eat whatever I want for a day!

Then depending, I usually take a week off.  If is a 10k or less, I'll just take an extra day off.   Last race I took 2 weeks off, and it definately was too much.  I came back and lost some form on my run.

Congrats, Donato on a fantastic weekend of racing! You are a rock star!

Apologies for being MIA....I just returned from 8 days with 44 Grade 8 students in Quebec City and Montreal followed by a couple of days in Toronto to celebrate my Grandma's 90th birthday. It was very strange to not have internet/computer- perhaps the longest I have gone without! So I have much catching up to do!

I did manage to get out for a couple of excellent (but short) runs in Old Quebec- which is stunning and has a good number of hills. While in TO, I did a 11 miler and finished the last mile with a very sore ankle. I don't recall turning it and swelling is very minimal with no discolouration, so I don't know what happened. It is sore to touch just above my lateral maleolus and walking isn't a whole lot of fun- might just try to ice and rest for the next bit and hope that it improves.

Hope everyone had a fantastic week! I look forward to catching up and seeing how your training is progressing.
Cheers,
Yvonne

I don't have much to offer here except that I have to do a little light something to keep from tightening up too much in the days after any big effort (race, long run, ultimate tournament). And WOW what a big effort you had last weekend - very impressive. Congratulations to everyone who raced, hope it was fun!

Just thought I'd check in and apologize for ebeing MIA. Real life kind of blew up the last two weeks and I haven't even logged into BT. But I'm back now and looking forward to getting back to the swing of things.

Thanks!

I WENT TO THE POOL AND SWAM!!!!!!!  I went this morning before work and just got back in the water and did whatever I wanted.  My times weren't that bad but my endurance is kinda shot.  I was just so proud of myself to get back in the water after almost a 8 week break!

I go with whatever my body seems to need. Long runs (halves, full) warrant some rest. Fulls warrant as much rest as necessary. I will walk but won't run until my legs aren't super sore. I've not run any big races since I've been more into biking, but I'd imagine a little trainer spin might feel good on sore legs. Love swims for recovery -- the non-impact feels so good. After a sprint tri, I might take a day off but don't need to. Definitely day off after an Oly. But I don't generally take breaks from working out, as it's very much a way of life for me and I don't feel good if I take too many days off (body gets achy and lethargic).

YAY PAM for getting to the pool!!!!
