I wanted to say Hi -  I am new to this site.

I am signed up to do IMCDA 2010 and as my training is getting ramped up have wondered what I have gotten myself into!  yikes

I am happy to have fellow triathaletes to commiserate with.

I have completed many sprint / Olympic tri's.  I have completed Bosie 70.3 and Calgary 70.3, but this will be my first full Ironman.

I did a HIM on the front half of the Sliverman course... very painfully hilly, not killer steep, but endless hills.  And HOT it was 105 F that day.  Grats on finishing Sliverman, that is a mean course.

Thank you. Proudest moment of my life. The weather was perfect. 23C on the bike and never got below 16C in the evening. Very little wind and a little overcast. Got a tiny patch of sunburn along armhole of tri top.

Best place to party after the race--Vegas strip! I was found there by other athletes by my slight limp. :-)

Remember all of life is a creative writing assignment.  I wrote the outline for my doctoral dissertation on one page in about 15 minutes.  I then spent 1 year finding the sources to fill in the remaining 180 pages and revising it 25 times to match the writing style of my 4 comittee members.  Enjoy.  At least now you have the... hrm do a 100 mile bike or write 1 page of my thesis... really tough call, ya bike wins!  What if you add an 8 mile run after the bike... hrm.. ya still the workout will be more fun. 100 F.. yups.

All of this talk about the swim and the hills has me pretty excited!  Many of you have probably already seen it, but I thought I would post the IMCDA 2009 Highlight video that is posted on youtube.  It will give you a pretty good flavor of the hills involved as well as the mass swim start.  The view of the swim start was enough to make me fudge my pants....

Sorry, one more for you…  For those of you working on the swim, I highly recommend this technique.  I think it will definitely come in handy in Coeur d'Alene.    “You need to train the way you race…”

Cry it is going to be 30s, raining and windy for my mary this Sunday!  And there is a 6 percent grade downhill on pavement for 3.5 miles at the start.  Why do we do this again... for fun? There is a 60 percent chance of roadrash on that downhill with my name all over it, perhaps I should shave first so it heals better.

Wow... thanks for the linc... I think.    To finish 90 seconds before the time limit... soo much better than 90 seconds after.

So the swim never thins out and those hills are um evil.  I now know where I will be living on my bike rides.  I won't care anything about my training times as long as they have hills in them.  Sigh.  Perhaps bike focused would have been better than run focused this winter.

Nice chop on that lake...... reminds me of Boise where I had a horrible swim time.

What race is this?  I am feeling for you...    If you do fall victim to roadrash, the good news is that it will only make you stronger, right?  You might as well add the shaving into your taper for the weekend.  Plenty of down time I am sure.  Not only that, it may be good practice for IMCDA.

When did you do the Boise 70.3?  I made it my first ever triathlon last year (2009).  Your right the swim was brutal (white caps and all).  Instead of swimming, I was drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated (choke-choke).  The bike was just about as wet as the swim with the rain, not to mention the wind.  The cooler temps weren't to bad for the run.  However, the feet were wet from the puddles (not good when you go without socks).  All in all I finished at 5:25.

Boise is known to be pretty hot.  However, the weather can still be a bit unpredictable in June.  I imagine it could be a toss up in regards to the weather at IMCDA as well.

Hi,

I need some bike help. I'm in week 7 of the Be Iron Fit plan and I'm tired...lol

I am doing all of my bike training on my trainer until the weather gets better. I live in Spokane, WA so I will be able to ride the course in the Spring but until then I'm not real sure how I should be training on my trainer.

What should my average mph be on the trainer?

Thanks for all of your help. And thanks T for clarifying about the hills

Happy training!

Kendra

Doesn't the plan call for Z2 for 45 minutes on one day, then Z1@100rpm for 60 minutes for another day and then a long ride of 2 hours in Z2?
Trust your training.

It is true you should not target a specific mph on the indoor trainer or the road. Heart rate and power are much better. However, the indoor trainer is a great tool. There are some good trainer workouts you can do to specifically prepare yourself for the demands of the CDA course. As has been discussed the course is far from flat. I suggest some low cadence grinds to simulate the hills. Also on the trainer mph can be used somewhat as a power meter. Do not expect mph on the trainer to compare with mph on the road. But you could determine zones on your trainer using mph. Since the conditions on the trainer are almost identical every time you ride you can easily compare one ride to another ride.

I remember that day in Boise all too well. Chop, Rain, Wind, and my best finish ever at 5:32.

I did Boise last year, so same race, I was at 5:45 ish, so a bit slower than you big dogs.

So did my mary in the rain today and for better or worse, BQ'd, bearly (3:19:23).  Now I have to decide whether to go or not, so close to CDA.

Nice Job and Congratulations!  The good news is that I think your time can still be used for 2011 if you want to go that route.  I was able to get qualified at the end of October and my understanding is that it would be good for 2010 and 2011 (based on time of year).  I do plan to run Boston in 2011.  I do also have a marathon scheduled for May in which I hope to run hard again.

Again, great work!  Especially in the rain!

Thanks for the info, I will have to look into it.  I am sure that my body would like to not do 2 IM and 2 maries within an 11 month period.
