I'm wondering if there is advice on getting a bike to IMKY. I'm in Minneapolis area and wondering about options for best, most cost-effective way to get my bike to Louisville.

are you driving or flying???

Anybody looking for accommodations?

I just cancelled the two reservations I was holding, so if space has become sparse, these might be worth grabbing.

(1) Fairfield Inn and Suites; downtown; I had booked the 27, 28, and 29, and when I did it there was no minimum stay; convenient to swim start; generous cancellation policy - 6 p.m. day of arrival; 877-545-0352.

(2) Quality Inn and Suites; near run course, just two or three quick exits from downtown; I had booked 26, 27, 28, and 29, with no minimum stay; cancellation policy is 4 p.m. the day before arrival; 502-638-6100.

BEST OF GOOD FORTUNES TRAINING -- AND OF COURSE ON RACE DAY AS WELL!!

So I was told that a good "warmup" race for Louisville was Cardinal Harbor Half IM. Apparently its a small race, about $100 to enter, and runs on a very similar course. Swim in the Ohio and a lot of the bike is identical to the IMKY course! Its July 17th this year, so a good ways out from the big game to assess your fitness level.

I did the CH 1/2 last year and will do it again this year.  Honestly, its not the best run race.  There were no portapotties on the run course and a couple of intersections on the bike without someone directing traffic, but I loved getting the course experience.

Its not too much information, but its enough for a general idea. All I have heard is that you race in very similar conditions, however the course is not well supported (lack of aid stations, porto's, etc). Either way, looks like a small venue and a good excuse to check out Louisville before the main event

I'll be in the area at the end of the month, and was looking to do a 1 lap training ride on the IM loop.  Is anyone familar with the loop and is it difficult to ride when the course is not close.  (are there any problems ( traffic or otherwise).

Judging by the map it gets rural quick, but I'm just looking at a map and was hoping to get some insight from someone who is more familar with the area.

There are no problems riding the course in general.  However, Hwy 42 can be very busy at times, particularly in the Prospect area.  Weekend mornings are typically a pretty good time to pass through there.  Once you pass through Prospect you essentially have left the city and suburbs behind.

My 24 week plan starts tomorrow and ironman and training seems to dominate my thoughts.  I've yet to start thinking about race details.  I'm sure that'll hit soon.

I started  some base for eagleman a couple weeks ago and it really turns up a week from today.

I'm going to be adding volume to the bike workouts for eagleman and then doing a bridge plan from eagle to IMKY.

I was more excited a few weeks ago, I think this weather in VA has taken its toll on my mentally.  Once I'm out riding regularly in nice weather I'll be very amped up.

I'm starting week 7 of the Be Iron Fit (competetive) program.  Today's a rest day!  Long run is 1:15; long ride is 2:30; swimming 2500m.  So far, so good.  I'm starting to get excited about the race but trying to temper it as there is a lot of training in front of me before I get to the line.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am jealous of everyone starting their plans.  My 20 weeks begin April 12.  Once week 3 rolls around I am going on vacation for a week, which means no biking.  Going to the BVI, I should get in some pretty good OWS though.  I think I am going to try to make that my rest week.

How is everyone's base right now?  Are you feeling pretty good about it?  What are your max sbr distances leading up to beginning your plan?

I am trying to overcome some achilles tendinitis, so my running is at a minimum, but I have gotten in a few 50 mile rides and some 2-3k meter swims.

So far, this YEAR (2010) my longest have been:
Swim: 3000ish
Bike: 40ish
Run: 11ish

I'll start ramping the biking miles up within the next couple weeks, tone down swimming a bit while I do that to keep overall volume in line for what I can do right now.  For run, I'll probably stick with those "shorter" long runs for the next month or two and really start to increase those a bit rounding out into summer.

I'm feeling pretty good about my base, I hope it is enough.  I've been running consistenty with long runs up to 13 miles.  Bikes rides have been more sporadic based on weather and daylight but I have a couple 50 mile long rides.  I've not been too concerned about swimming so far but do have a couple swims that are just over 2000 meters.

Unfortunately all of my riding so far this year has been in my basement and that is what worries me the most.  I am hopefully going to get outside tomorrow for an hour or so and see how I feel.  Have not run as much as I would have llike but am ramping it up now and feel pretty good and fresh.  Swimming has not been great but am not real worried about that part of the race.

Official plans start April 12th and that day can't get here soon enough.

My long swim is 3K, long bike is 42m, long run 7m.  I need to work on the run but am nursing bad knees, so I am trying to go slow on the run.  I am focusing more on bike fitness to make sure that I have plenty in the tank for the run.  My long run in this will probably only be around 18 miles as I want to save the pounding on my knees.  (I have arthritis and no meniscus in my left knee and it gets sore if I put too many miles on it.)

I've got 5 more weeks of build, then on the base phase.

I'm doing a half iron on April 18th so I'm pretty sure my base should be good. IM training starts with hopefully a good 70.3 in April. Looks like my longest day will be a 6 hour bike with a 1 and half hour run after. That seems to be the hardest day on my plan. Seems like a piece of cake compared to August 29th!

Will be my first IM distance, base is good I think.  Swim 3500 yards, Ran marathon in November, but took about 6 weeks off to heal a stress fracture, just started running 2 weeks ago, longest was 7 miles, but could easily go longer, bike up to 50 with no problem.  Hope it is a good start.

blountds      I am assuming you are from Vicksburg Mississippi?  Are you doing the half in New Orleans and if so are you going to the seminar this Saturday?

I'm at 3500 meters of swimming, 53 miles of biking and a long run of 21 miles.  I had been preparing for the ING marathon but got sidelined with a toe ailment.  The marathon training plus weekly hard spin classes have helped keep my bike fitness up so that the 50 milers were not so hard.

I wonder if the distances we did last summer count towards the  base.  I'm hoping that they do, because my distances last summer for all but the run were a lot more.
