hildekq - 2010-01-12 12:51 PM Texas is out of the cold, yea!  I think we are done with any freezing temps as of this morning.  Mid-50's in the afternoons, so much nicer for running and I hope to get out on my bike soon, although they are calling for rain later in the week.

Had me a nice swim this morning, and have a 4.5 mile run on tap this afternoon.... and then I hope to veg on the couch and watch American Idol tonight!!

Bah - and here I was enjoying all the ice-cold misery that the rest of the country was experiencing for a change!

Aww, enjoy the last season of Idol with Simon!

And yes, I'm still alive and have been working out.  I've decided that I have to limit my weenie badges to just a couple per month so I better be careful after earning one last week!  Embarassed

Keep up the good training everyone!

Today I had one of the PT's look at my hips and back and found out that my pelvis was way out of whack. I am going back to the Athlete's Performance strength and conditioning program that I was on earlier and modify it for S, B, and R (eventually). I felt great on that program because it incorporates lots of core strengthening.

I read one of Alan Couzen's blog where he quoted a study indicating that the average person needed to train:

4,000 hr. for a 15 hr. IM (BOP)
6,000 hr. for a 12 hr. IM (MOP)
12,000 hr. for a 9.5 hr. IM (FOP)

My guess is that you are a little ahead of the game given your age.  Well done!

That sounds a bit off from his original post, unless I missed that one. He's always stated it takes about 10,000 hours of training(any sport will go towards this) to hit ones full potential give or take a bit depending on genetics. Those hours are WAY off for those IM times, not that it is something that can really be compared.

Well, hello hello everyone!

I am back in cold WI.  I am happy to announce that I am a marathon finisher!!  It was quite a trip... seemed like everything that could go wrong did go wrong, but in the end, the Disney magic kept me going and I finished with lots of tears and one big smile on my face.  I am currently working on writing up the whole weekend so I will never forget and I will post that when I get done.  It is such a deep warm feeling finishing a marathon and I am certainly living off it right now!

In the post Alan was quoting some study.  I'm just a beginner at this so I have no idea if the numbers are off or on - just quoting them.  Here is the post (it's a great read):

Congrats and welcome back!!  I heard the weather was awful, though I'm sure it was better than being at home.  I can't wait to read about the whole weekend.

Hey everyone.  Just thought I should check in.  Spent 1 hour on the bike trainer this AM and confidence is high.  I am so glad I went ahead with the purchase.  My workout in a binder should arrive from Amazon this week so I should have it in time for my next session on Saturday.  As far as running goes I'm still building up my base before my marathon traiing kicks in later this month.  My swimming is probably my weak point.  I'm getting to the pool 2 times a week and am working on building my strength and distance.  I know my form stinks and I also know that good swimming is all about form.  So I guess I know what I should focus on.

Congrats to Pam on her marathon finish!  I can't wait to read the report I hear that the conditions were less than ideal!

Monica, sorry to hear the news, but at the same time it's always good when they figure out exactly what the issues are.  It's tough to S/B/R when other things are out of whack.  Core is HUGE though for S/B/R, so it should help set you up for some success in that too.  Wishing some healing for you quickly!

Janet, so glad you are happy with the trainer purchase!! Where you live it's almost a necessity to build or maintain any type of bike fitness so stick with it, it will make you stronger.  Swimming is a lot about form.  There are some decent videos out there that show some good form and things to think about, and those are helpful especially when you don't have access to someone to look at your form and coach you through it!  Keep up the work!

Hey team,

I am still on the consistency band wagon.  Had two great workouts in the last 24 hours. Last night I went out for some hills, around 10k. I started slowed but then I felt like i was flying and killing the hills. The pace isn't anything to write home about  but the mental uplift of a few hill repeats and a couple of tough hills as a part of the run is awesome.

I went to the pool this morning and the regular crowd seems to have disappeared! It was me and one other lady and then I had the pool to myself. It was lovely!

See, I get excited whenever theres someone in the pool that can remotely swim... I so rarely have to share a lane it's bad, and it's only a 3 lane pool. Use to have a nice group, and actually had a few of us last Friday... However 95% of the time it's just me and maybe a floater in the pool.

Though I did have a guy sprint all out for 25yds trying to beat me while I was warming up. I still won, but it did make me smile. The guy then got out and went to the hot tub.

Keep up the consistency! That's a huge part of it all!

Swimming more is the key to everything really. Sure, work in some drills into every workout, but that should be a small part of that session. Swim lots, swim hard and pay attention to what your body is doing. I'd be willing to bet your body starts making adjustments to being more efficient all on it's on just by swimming a lot.

I'm definitely finding this to be the case with my swimming.  I noticeably let up when I do longer distances...partly because of fitness and partly due to form issues.  It is getting better though, so I hope my slight improvements every time continue.  I hate only having one speed!

One question:  Just out of curiousity but how long did it take everyone to get used to their bike saddle?  Mine is still killing me and even though I haven't spent a huge amount of time in it, I'm beginning to think that it shouldn't be affecting me to the point where I can't ride more than 20 minutes on it before the soft tissue pain becomes unbearable and I need a break.  My sit bones, I can deal with and expected but the other pain is beginning to grate on me and one of the reasons I have still been using the bikes at the gym for my longer rides.

Just a point of reference, the bike is a Felt B12 and I was professionally fit on it by a place who specializes in triathlon bikes, so I don't think it's a fit issue.  It may just be that I have to HTFU but I wanted to be sure first.

I think by now you should be used to your saddle... I couldn't stand the stock seat that came with my bike, sit bones were fine, but not good on the girlie parts.  Right now I have an Adamo (one of their cheaper ones because it has a lycra cover rather than leather) and I love it.  Huge cut out seems like it would work for guys and gals...

Hi everyone,

I'm still recovering, eating tons, sleeping a bunch, but feeling better every day.  I am working on my race report but it is going to be super long!  I submitted something to national TV, on ABC on Saturday morning on Good Morning America, they do a "Your week in three words".  I submitted a clip for them that was filmed right after my marathon.  I hope it makes it on.    Tune in... it is normally near the end of the show.  If they don't show it, I will post it here in a few days otherwise

Have a great night everyone... back to my race report!

Good morning F+S2010 peeps!  What's everyone doing today?  I already got my swim done, have a 4.5 mile run for this afternoon and am hoping it is not raining!  At least the temps are back to normal in Texas.  I'm looking forward to the 3-day weekend and am really hoping the weather cooperates so I can get outside on my bike!  She is so sad and lonely these days....

So jealous that you can actually ride outdoors - safely and not in a large iceblock!  I have seen brave souls still cycle commuting to work but it seems a little miserable to me.

Good morning!

I was in for a swim this morning. Both my bike last night and my swim this morning were a little sluggish and neither were hard efforts so we'll see how my planned tempo run goes tonight.  My body is definitely asking for the rest day that i have planned tomorrow.

Morning!

I had a shorter swim planned this morning, I did the right time/distance but once I got swimming I didn't feel like doing any sort of speed. So I just kind of swam instead. I guess a little bit of weenies in me this morning. I've got a balls-to-the-wall swim tomorrow evening, so I'll be making up for slacking just a tad today.
