Okay, so I think I'll be able to get a run in by the end of the weekend, meaning I only will have missed one LOVE workout due to the snow. My ankle has been bothering me a bit since I took an unplanned skating adventure across my parking lot, so I figured it was a cosmic message to just take some time off.
So, just to be accountable, here's my plan:
1. Run either before work Saturday or Sunday
2. Tubes delivered maybe Tuesday (please) so get on trainer again next week
3. Buy pool membership tonight or tomorrow night
4. Get into the pool by Feb 22

deehtz - 2010-02-11 6:03 PM Another 3 miles in the books today.  I did a bike yesterday, and if I get my self together in the morning, I will swim before work.  I will get in some more LOVE miles this weekend!

Congrats on the new trainer, Yogachic!  Did you talk him into letting you keep his trainer until yours comes?

And congrats on the Garmin, Cindy.  Enjoy it!  It sounds like it makes training a lot easier to track and plan.  I don't have that fancy of a watch yet.  I just use mapmyrun and a sports watch.  Maybe someday but there's too many basics I still need.  Like a road bike!  LOL

Tracy, glad you are feeling better!  Did you ditch the inhaler?

Yes, a road bike would be good!

I did not use the inhaler for Thursday's run but I did have to use it last night.  We will see what happens during my long run on Sunday.

Even though you are an enemy - great job.  Isn't the water so freeing?

Have a great day and thanks for putting this together this month.  This things are not easy to run!

The pool temp wasn't at all bad today. The pool was quieter than a normal morning but by no means was is empty.

I live 1.6 miles from the pool so the drive was OK. Roads are generally down to pavement but you never know when a lane will squeeze down or disappear due to snow piles; turn lanes are generally buried.

I have a swim session to make up for the challenge but I know I can get it in next week or the week after (especially since I won't be running again until things get a lot more cleaned up)

I emailed him asking if I could keep his until mine came in (hopefully next week), so we'll see what he says.  In either case, I'm still really excited about getting my own.  Hopefully this means I'll use it a lot!

Anyways, I've been slightly derailed this week.  With the snowstorm on Tuesday, I didn't feel like doing my run in a blizzard.  That same night we had an earthquake (in Chicago!? what?!), which I didn't really realize at the time, but I'd gotten woken up in the middle of the night and had a hard time getting back to sleep. . . So I wasn't able to get up early Weds morning for my trainer ride.  Then my friend & I are throwing a dinner party tonight, so last night we were grocery shopping & prepping food until 2am.  Which AGAIN means I didn't get my run in last night or my trainer ride this morning.  And since tonight's the dinner party, I'll be going there straight after work to cook until the guests arrive.

So, yeah, now I'm behind.  At least I have a 3-day weekend to hopefully get a little caught up.  I have a long run tomorrow morning (13 miles!), then I'm volunteering at an indoor tri after.  Hopefully that'll get me back in the mood to train.  Sunday mornings, I usually do a group run with my tri club.  If my friend will let me keep his trainer through the weekend, I'll try to get a good bike session in Sunday afternoon, maybe while watching a movie.  Monday I have off, but am thinking of going cross country skiing in the morning.  If I don't do that (or even if I do and am not too tired) AND if my friend still hasn't picked up his trainer, I'll do another trainer ride on Monday.

Lots of things going on with the group.  Good to hear about swimming pool being open, bike trainer ordered, ankle feeling better.

Happy Valentine's weekend to the Hearts - how appropriate.  I, too, have a 3-day wekeend.  Ontario added another stat holiday a couple years ago called Family Day.  I don't care what they call it, I'll take another day off.  March will be along month since Easter is in April this year.  I start my actual training plan in March.  This Challenge has been the perfect segue.

I will be adding another run at lunch today and hopefully get in 2 more runs and swim this weekend.

Keep on trucking folks.

Cindy

Dee - Thanks!  I will!
Cindy - I think here it's President's Day or something, but I think most people just see it as another day off as well

And an update. . . My friend just wrote me back.  I guess he's training for a 450-mile bike ride across Iowa in July that he wants to start training for (which makes me wonder why he loaned it to me without mentioning it.)  We're in the same marathon training group, so he'll be taking his trainer back before our run tomorrow morning Frown  So yeah, I doubt I'll get another trainer ride in before then.

But now I'm intrigued and kind of want to do the Iowa bike ride!  Too bad it's the week after my HIM, and since that'll be my first, I have not clue how my recovery's going to be!

Sorry about losing the trainer early, but at least yours in on the way.  "wgraves7582"  who has popped in to this thread occasionally to "smack" talk  (you listening Bill?  Smile)  he has tried the trans-Iowa ride before and will be doing it this year.  Ask him about that ride.  It sounds like quite the doozy!

yogachic - 2010-02-11 11:31 AM Sadness!  My friend who's lending me his trainer wants it back already!  When he originally let me borrow it, I asked him when he wanted it back, and he was very vague about it and said he wasn't planning on riding until the spring... so I figured he'd let me borrow it at least a month so I could get used to it.  Or at least give me longer notice before having to give it back.  But I'll have to give it back to him probably this weekend.

So I'm not sure where that'll leave me with my LOVE challenge.  I'm definitely going to buy my own, but I thought I'd have a little more time to get used to his trainer to figure out what features I like/don't like and go from there.  I'll probably order one in the next few days, but I don't like feeling rushed into a big purchase Undecided   I'll try to get as much riding in before I have to give it back, or maybe I can ask him to let me keep it until I order a new one and it comes in.

Bummer, maybe you can sweet talk him into letting you borrow it until the end of the month.
Okay, I just read that he's taking it back tomorrow.  But at least you have yours ordered.  Maybe it won't take too long to get to you.

Did not get my second swim in yet this week.  Am hoping to be able to go tonight after work, but we are supposed to be getting snow.  Dang it.  I guess that means that I shouldn't leave work before everyone else does.  They won't realize that I'm going to go get my very important swim in.  They will just look at is as I want to get home before the roads get bad.  And if I do that, then they should be able to go also.  Maybe they will decide to close the library early, but if they do that, then that means the roads will be too bad to try and get to the pool to swim.  gosh darn it.

I think she might be talking Ragbrai - Trans-Iowa is a whole different ballgame.  Ragbrai after HIM is very doable IMHO!

Figured you might be lurking, Bill.    So for us uninformed,  what is the low-down on the two events?

Well Trans-Iowa is an "underground" event that is totally unsupported and you are on your own!  It is basically a group of people getting together and riding through Iowa on a designated course and if something happens you are SOL!  We start at 4:00am and ride 320 miles as fast as possible with a 32 hour cut off.  90% of this is on gravel roads with some "b" grade roads (unmaintained) thrown in for hike a bikes.

Ragbrai is a totally supported ride that encompasses partying and riding a bike for x amount of miles a day.  Paved roads are included free of charge.  There is nothing easy about Ragbrai but if you have minimal fitness it is very doable!

I had looked up both events and Trans-Iowa sounds crazy, but right up your alley Bill.  I can't imagine riding for 32 hours straight, or 320 miles, whichever comes first.  The Ragbrai is similar to BRAG which is Bike Ride Across Georgia.  They do that every year during the summer and I've yet to do one.  It is usually during the libraries busiest months, so it just doesn't work out for me to take the week off from work.
