Did we all fall off the earth at the same time?

I picked up a SPED math class for the remainder of the school year after Memorial Day, so that's been eating into my time.  I am still fighting the ITBS and now I managed to hurt my shoulder while swimming.  I had hoped to do a sprint in July, but that's just not gonna happen.  School's out at the end of the week.  Hopefully I can get some sort of rhythm going after that.  I'd like to get two more sprints in this year, but I have to get off my butt in order for that to happen.

Ride a lot, then add intervals.

Is there a group that you can ride with?  That can kind of be like interval training.  You pull and that is your interval and then you sit on and that is your rest period.

I'm sorry to hear about the ITBS -- and now the shoulder injury.  Yikes!  I feel your pain -- I tend towards periformis problems which become low back/pinched nerve problems if left untreated.  Fortunately I spotted the signs early last time and was able to treat it before it got truly bad.

In fact, I am thinking of taking a yoga or pilates class to encourage more stretching and more core work.  I've just had a hard time finding a class that is not for mommies.  I mean, a 9:30 am class might be nice if you are a SAHM but if you work full time, not so much.  Have any of you tried yoga or pilates classes?

Sorry to hear about the injuries and the July sprint

Managed to make a 30mph warning sign light up this morning! Admittedly it was a the bottom of a hill, but it still lit up (for about 1 second!).

Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. School is winding up which means a bunch of work. I have been trying hard to keep it all together so I can still fit in my workouts. Also, had Lasik last week so computer work was hard for a few days, but it sure is cool to be able to see all the time!

Sorry to hear about the injuries. ugh.

I've done a bunch of yoga in the past and it really helps. But the teacher moved and now i can't find another class at 5:30 or 6 am. Bummer.

Love the 30 mph sign lighting up - whenevr I see them coming I feel compelled to see how fast I can get going whether it is biking or running. Always good for a laugh if nothing else.

What does everyone have planned for this weekend? We are going up to camp so I am going to do a hilly 2 - 2.5 hour ride on Sat and a run on Sun. (still can't swim b/c of the Lasik)

Have a good one!

MartyO - 2010-06-18 4:14 PM ...What does everyone have planned for this weekend?

Swim on Saturday and a run on Sunday. Finally starting to feel that my swimming is actually getting somewhere! I'm currently doing to 0 to 1650 plan and (being on week 4) I was supposed to start with 600m continuous, but finally decided to stop at 800m.
The run was pretty good too as it's the first time I've kept my pace under 9:00/mile for a run over 4miles (4.87miles @ 8:50/mile).

How did everyone else do?

Here in NC we are starting what I call 100k season.  I have one one this weekend, then one on the 4th, the 11th and 24th.  As that is going on, I am getting more running in to get ready for my second Oly on August 7th.  More swimming will be added to the mix as well (I've been swimming 1-2 times a week).

It's been hot here but I generally deal with heat OK.  For me, the long days help to make up for it.  I really love getting a 2+ hour ride in on a week night!

I hope that everyone else is doing well.

Nice Job! I did a 40 mi bike ride with some pretty good hills in it and a 6.5 mi run last weekend. Since I can swim again, I have a swim, 30 mi bike and a run planned for the weekend. Swim and bike on Sat, run on Sun.

how is it going for everyone else?

Getting alot of swimming in, pretty much every day(although it's in 15meter pool). The running has been alot more fun since I put an A/C in my basement with the TM(I do most of my running on the TM to avoid some hip issues).

I have my first sprint of the year on Sunday the 4th of July, I volunteered at a bunch of races in the spring to basically race for free for the rest of the season starting this week with three more races through October (keeps the wife happy when I don't pay for the races) Smile

Right after the race, we're heading out on vacation for a week of whitewater rafting then hanging at  the beach in Ocean City Md. I'll see if I can cram in a couple of runs and a swim or two before the family gets up.

Last week's 100k went well.  It was pretty hot on Saturday but scorching on Sunday and Monday.  Someone finally turned off the heat and we are back to normal temperatures for a while at least.  So far it looks like weather for the Firecracker 100k will be pretty nice.  This is a fairly big ride and social event around here.  I'm looking forward to it!

We have had a lot of pop up thunderstorms here in the late afternoons.  I am hoping to get my long ride in tonight.  I think that tonight is the longest one -- sunset is at 8:34 tonight which means a 2.5 hour ride -- woo hoo!

Finally managed a 1500m continuous swim last night! Admittedly it took me just over 45mins to complete, but distance was the goal not speed.

Having said that, I think it's now time to work on making myself faster. Guess that means my swim on Saturday is going to be dominated with drills of varying descriptions.

Congratulations on the 1500 meters!  Woo hoo!

I wish I could help you with the speed part of your comment.  I very comfortable with the distance less adept with the speed.

I have been trying to be better about stretching.  I have been getting core work in 2-3 times a week but that needs a shake up too.  I do better when I have things scheduled.  I mean, if it's on the calendar, I get it done.  That made me think that a class might be the way to go.

My gym offered an intro Pilates reformer class on Monday and I did that.  It was OK.  What was good is that it was a very small class so they really made sure that you were doing the position right.  I kind of liked it.  I think that it might help with body awareness which might help with swimming.  The class will cost me though.  A new fundamentals class isn't starting for a few weeks so no need to make a decision now.

Then last night I took a yoga class at the gym.  That was good.  I am definitely flexibility challenged!  I wasn't sure how I felt about the class last night but this morning I felt awesome!  I'm trying a different yoga class (not at my gym) on Thursday.

I should probably have mentioned that at least 25% of the yoga class was made up of men.

I'm here. Been travelling for work and not on BT much. I also injured myself a couple of weeks ago and have been pretty miserable. I've been injured for at least some part of the last two years and I'm a little sick of it, honestly.

I've got the NYC Tri in two weeks, so I'm going to HTFU and get through it and then we'll see. I might need a little break.

Wow---looks like we all got injured at once.... weird.

I hope that everyone had a good weekend.

I had my long ride on Saturday.  That went well.  I need to continue working on hills but otherwise, it was a good ride.  I joined a local shop ride and the group was particularly good this week.   Two of my friends that I usually ride with are going to France to watch le Tour (and attempt some of the climbs) so I'm not too sure about next weekend.

Yesterday I had my longest brick so far -- 45 on the bike followed by a 45 minute run.  I must have been worried about this because I got about 4 miles into the run and I started to think things like, "This isn't so bad.  Hey, this is kinda fun."  I was also surprised to see that my run pace for this brick was the same as my normal run pace (such that it is).

More rides and bricks next weekend.  More of that and swimming this week.

Take care!

The TdF is really entertaining this year, isn't it?

THe NYC Tri is this weekend. I'm looking forward to it, even though I'm not sure how fast I'll be with this injury.

Not sure what the rest of the season will look like. If I get through with no problems, I'll probably look for a late-season tri, otherwise, I'll quit running for a while and stick to biking and running.

Good luck this weekend!  I hope that you are able to get your calf problems straightened pretty quickly.  Did you slowly build up your running or kind of say to yourself, "Goodness!  I have an Oly coming up in a few weeks.  5 mile run for me!"

I saw that you have been missing your road bike.  I hope that you're able to replace it soon.

got my wet suit in the post this morning, and have just been for my first OWS. only swam 50 meters or so but i had someone watching from the bank who isn't a strong swimmer so i just did across the lake and out just to get use to not seeing the bottom and the feeling of swimming with a wet suit. Hopefully Sic and I will get a swim in on Saturday morning at a ows lake near us.

Excellent news!  How exciting Laughing

I'm lucky. My husband is a kayaker and I can sometimes convince him to go out and spot for me.  Of course it's quite a production to bring a boat with you so you can go swimming...
