As a South African transplant now living in Newport, RI for 14 years my quick scan of the messages stopped them moment I saw that!! Where are you playing rugby & cricket (especially cricket)? We have a good rugby side here in Newport, but lacking on the cricket side. Will have to catch up in Florida. Mitch |

Extreme Veteran 416 Raleigh, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread 7 weeks from my spring marathon so I have been running lots. Got in a great 47 mile bike ride this weekend thanks to some warmer weather which is making me feel better about my bike situation. Swimming..that's another story. I've been in maybe once a week. So in February I am trying to get in 5 pool sessions a week just to get in the swimming mode again. Yes it is gonna suck because swimming is my least favorite but hopefully this little challenge will help. Meanwhile, I am slathered in Tiger balm..I suppose that's a sign of a good training weekend lol |

Rugby I dropped when I realised being 145 and 5'9 makes for difficult times on a rugby pitch. Cricket I've continued in the UK - but not over here for the last 2 years. I understand there is a league down in DC on coconut matting. Let's catch up in PCB ... by then England will have won both the Cricket and Rugby World Cups of course ! Adrian |

Extreme Veteran 483 St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Are we doing monthly totals yet? Since this is the first month I have actually managed to keep a complete log, I thought I better post, may never happen again! B: 190.57 Mi - 12h 36m 47s R: 141.06 Mi - 23h 42m 45s What no swim! Had set myself the goal of ascending the equivalent of Mount Everest in elevation gain over my runs during the month of January, managed 31009 ft - 1980ft above the summit (so I'm good for a little volcanic activity). Celebrated to completion of my goal by signing up for San Juan 70.3 tonight (March 19th) this will be a fun event for me, not planning to do anything special, just an excuse to go to Puerto Rico for the weekend, my training (such as it is) is focused (another poor choice of words) towards St Croix 70.3 (May 1st ), then there is something happening in November - forgotten exactly what... it'll come to me soon! February will again be run biased, but with more bike miles, plus I hope to learn to swim again. 8 Tuff Miles (8tuffmiles.com) is a mere 26 days away (hence the focus on climbing). 278 days till I meet y'all on the beach ) |

New user 8 Bolivia | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Miker1818 - 2011-01-27 4:40 PM So how is training going for everyone? It has been a cold up here in Ohio so can't wait till spring to get out on the bike and hit the roads. The computrainer is great but nothing beats and 4 hour ride on a Sat. morning outside. Running a 10 miler when it is 5 degrees is just no fun. But overall training is going well for me. Well, we are in the summertime down here, also it is the raining-season, so some outside sessions had to be cancelled. Our raining is nothing compared to Australia or Brazil, but still you have to move around outside and inside training. These brick-sessions of 3 hours bike and 30 min run hurt a lot. but better now than in june-july when it is quite cold outside and you have to put a lot of clothes on. saludos |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Okay month for me..found the rhythm of my training again; started working with my coach again after post IM break; set swim PB I had set back in 2006; making some big gains in swim gains doing the Finding Freestyle program; have a plan to get healthy...knee/quad is improving but long road to go ahead; PT says I basically cycle with one leg and run like I'm on ice all the time which explains why my pace is what it is

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi kids Well my January just plain SUCKED. I got a boatload of life stuff going on and my stress level has been thru the roof. Tri training is normally my stress buster but I have been so stressed that I find myself unable to train. Mostly I want to sit watch TV and drink some wine. I am in the process of closing a medical practice an relocating 1/2 way across the country. I sold my house and 98% of my things are in storage (not my bikes of course) and I am sleeping on the floor in my office as I am essentially homeless and going to my parents on the weekends. One of my best friends daughter was diagnosed with cancer (she is only 12) so I have been trying to help her with that. I put on a medical conference in January and I am putting another one on next week and have to give 5 lectures. Add in buying a house, getting a mortgage (NO SMALL FEAT as opposed to my last 2 which took about 2 hours a piece) getting a medical license in another state (which requires I pass a LAW exam of all things) plus dealing with staffs both in my office, at the hospital and the surgery center who are all upset I am leaving and having every patient be mad at me for doing something tht is going to vasty improve my life and I am just whooped. I am hoping for better things in February, but quite frankly I don't give a rats that my january numbers were in the toilet. As in all my races I did the best I could do. |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Wow, you post made me tired just reading it Good luck. You'll make it though and as you said, it will be for the better. I really don't track my mileage. Our coach pretty much lays out what we do so I don't track it, just do it. I guess I could go back and see but it really doesn't matter that much to me. I can guess but again, it isn't a big deal. Never did track stuff well. I pretty much swim 3 times a week for an hour each time, I have a track workout, a medium run (6-8 miles) and a long run each week then a bike trainer session and a long ride (usually 50+ mi)each week with a brick run. Non-tri related I attend 2 boot camp type workouts each week too. Same thing, week after week after week. But she does mix up the swim, bike ride location and run location to keep it fresh! enjoy, Duane |

Expert 769 Murfreesboro, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Right now I am still working on building base. I'm just wondering when everyone plans to start specific training for IMFL. I am looking at a 20 week plan so I think that will start me around June 20. I am currently training more distance than what the first week of that plan calls for in order to build base. Does this sound correct? Any suggestions or comments? |

Veteran 116 elizabethtown | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I used the 20 week plan for Louisville and it worked out great. I was just going for finishing and did it in 14 hours. It was my first. It gave me the structure I needed and you can modify it to your specs. Everyone I talked to said to get on a plan and I used the beginner plan in this site. Any plan is so much better than no plan at all. The base is just that. You will start ahead of the game. Good on you. |

I agree with sjweber: better to follow a plan than none at all. Makes you stick to training when you feel lazy To build base, I follow the beginner IM 20-week plan. In June I'll switch to the advanced IM training plan they have on this web. |

Regular 87 Fort Myers, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I am using a coach for this year and he has me on a base training plan right now. The best part of a plan is that it make you stay consistent with your training. With IM Florida being my first I hope it will all pay off in november. |

I will also be following the Be Iron fit -- which as was already pointed out, starts the DAY AFTER 70.3 in Galveston! But it will have to be tweaked so I don't drop off the training charts going from one 70.3 to another, to a full aquabike... lots of tweaking. Sue, here's to hoping the stress level drops...I will bring the first bottle -- Malbec is the current favorite :-) Hope everybody stays healthy! |

Veteran 260 Hong Kong | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Started a basic BT 16 week training plan for St. Anthony's and a week after that I'll jump into a 20 week BT training plan for IMFL. God bless training plans! without them it's so easy (for me) to start drifting away from training when life gets on the way. Numbers this year so far:
Other little races help a lot to stay focused and motivated. I had to skip one last Saturday due to work, but I trained hard for it and at the end that's what matters. Hopefully weather will improve soon for the folks up north so not only the numbers go up but the also the fun of training outdoors! |

I wanted to log more meters swimming, but snow/ice put a hold on that. January's totals: Bike: 27h 12m 02s - 501.59 Mi Run: 14h 52m - 110.49 Mi Swim: 4h 30m - 12100 M |

Going on my eighth consecutive trip to Asia, two kids, big yard, masters degree, etc, etc. I think the last movie my wife and I went to was was Monsters vs Aliens!!! Sometimes I wish days had more than 24 hrs..... Keep it up! There's only so much we can do, but the important thing here is to do it, no matter what! A 30 minute run is better than nothing. Training plans are awesome but they don't include baby sitters, drivers, etc See you in November! |
