Either way, honestly, swim more.

This is the most important.  Work yourself up to about 45 minutes in the pool for each session, if you can.  It will help a lot.

And while Robert's suggestions for workouts are great, I'd say the best swim sessions are the ones that keep you interested and engaged in the pool.

So which pool has the hot chicks!?!

I'll get to race one of these days.  My FIL went into the hospital late last night.  He was having chest pains, which resulted in a mild heart attack.  Racing just wasn't in the cards today.

Not mine!  Unless you are 80 and hit up the aquasizers.  Even then you really need to have an attraction for women who can make waves, if you get my drift. ;-)

After your responses I took a look at my plan and noticed it may not have been enough.  I built it with custom  tool and choose first time at Oly distance, so the plan gave me an easy format.  I kept it thiniking it might be enough for me because of my other priorities (family and career).  But, if I can get my A$$ out of bed in the mornings I should be able to follow a more chalenging plan.  So I built one with swim focus ( 4 days swim and 3 each for bike and run).  The plan looks a lot more fun.  I'm looking forward to Monday morning.

Thanks for all the well wishes.  He's lazy and we've told him this was coming.  He's a 60 yo Rt. Lt Col, who hasn't worked out or eaten right wince he got out of the Army.  Throw in 10 years behind a desk doing high stress engineering work and bam.

My wife and I managed to get her mother into triathlons/running last year.  So. I guess her dad is this year's project.

As everyone else has said, sorry to hear about your FIL and hope he get's through ok.

It's 10 days off work for me which, ironically, means I'll actually be on the boards slightly less. Managed to get in a nice 16mile ride this morning out here in the open countryside. Of course this meant there was no shelter from the wind, but thankfully it was only a 7mph breeze.

I was finally able to get back into the pool yesterday.  For reasons that were never clearly explained to me, they couldn't get it clean for about a month. One good thing is that it motivated me to do an OW swim a couple of weeks ago.  Anyway, I went yesterday and it was crystal clear.  I did 1500 M in 35:30 which I suppose isn't too bad considering how little I've been swimming recently.  One thing for sure--my shoulders are sore today.

I went out for a 25 mile ride this afternoon.  Same loop as I always do (it's close to home and safe), but I need to get out and try something different--I particularly need some hill work.

Most likely heading out for a 5 mile run tomorrow after work.

BTW, I'm giving considerable thought to doing a 8 mile race at the end of next month.  Unfortunately, I've got bad knees, and this would be the longest road race I've ever run.  Something else giving me pause is that the race starts at 5:45 AM.  But I suppose I should be happy with 5:45-- they're also staging a marathon the same day and that starts at 3:30.

Sprinkle some runs into your training and start building and you may can get that 8miler in. I'd start your building now, because just jumping in won't be a good thing.

3:30?  That's crazy talk right there.  What is the reason for this madness?

Good advice.

I regularly run 5 miles in training, and my plan is to push it up to 6.5 or maybe 7 in the weeks before the race.  Don't want to go too high because I know I'll end up doing too much damage to my knees.

It gets hot here (southern Thailand) at this time of year, and many Thais have an aversion to getting darker skin from the sun.

Was up early this morning (5am) and got my swim workout in (1250m).  I was tired after it as it's been a while since I performed that level of workout but in the end it felt great.  My new plan called for 2100m (this is my long day for swim) but I new I need it to cut it here and there otherwise it would have been too much.  By next week my swim fitness should be back and I'll be able to complete the full workouts.   Will be doing my short run workout at lunch.

Well its officialy 8 weeks before my first race this year (sprint June 18) and 12 weeks to my first Oly on July 16.  I'm very excited.

Our group has a real international flavor!

So my focus has shifted to weight loss. I've completed 1 FIM and 2 HIM while carrying at least an extra 10 lbs. probably closer to 15. Its my biggest limiter. Still more fit than 90% of the population, but not if I wanna compete in AG. Week 1 of my diet went ok. I'm on 1980 calories a day, plus workout cals. Looking at a 500 cal/day deficit. Dropped 2.6 lbs this week. I'm also getting used to starving all the time.   It was rough for the 1st couple of days.

Got in a 32 mile ride on Sat. First time I haven't had a race on the calendar in over a year and a half. Was sort of nice to ride with no agenda. Gotta get something on the calendar though.

Holy cow. I just realized the following:

I'm 5wks from my 5k swim.
I'm 6wks from my first super sprint tri.
I'm 8wks from my first real tri.

And I'm not following a real training plan for any of them!! YIKES!

(But I did have a good swim and run today)
