This winter has been weak so far, and the 10 day forecast is predicting low 30s with only one day of snow. Pathetic. I was hoping for some epic conditions for my trail 50k on Dec. 18, but no dice, it'll probably be 30s and sunny. Maybe we'll get some wind if we're lucky. *rolls eyes*

So I'm calling you out, Winter. You're just a shell of your former self. You so tepid you couldn't keep meat from spoiling. Do you even remember how to snow? You're a mosquito that's lost the will to suck blood. Pointless. I bet you couldn't freeze a puddle these days. I dare you to send your worst to the mitten state, but in your sad condition, we'll just swat it away.

Major points for me this afternoon!

48 minutes of running

23 degrees

Wind:
From N at 21mph gusting to 27mph

Light snow.

Felt like 8 degrees out there, according to weather.com. I ran into the wind for the first mile and I thought I might lose my fingers, even with two pairs of gloves on. Then I turned to run the next two miles with the wind at my back. Feeling started coming back into my fingers, and the pain was immense. When I had to turn back to run another mile, my fingers had feeling again and stayed fairly warm.

Should I have run with the wind at my back to begin with? Three pairs of gloves? Different gloves? (The outer gloves are UA Cold Gear.)

Everything else stayed toasty. My neck gaiter worked wonderfully. My lungs feel great.

I'm psyched. Can you tell? lol

Mittens keep your hands warmer than gloves. I have a pair of Nike running mittens that are thin but work great.

I like running into the wind first to get it over while I have more energy.

Of course. I didn't think of mittens. I don't have any. But this afternoon, I pulled my fingers in together to my palms and ran like that for the first mile. After they warmed up, I was fine. I'm glad to hear that my instinct about running into the wind at the beginning was good.

More points today -- two days in a row -- Wow. 23 today, no wind, so not big points, but it is better than nothing. It was actually very, very comfortable.

18 degrees this morning. Gonna rack up two Miserable runs today and tomorrow. Was tossing around a 20 miler tomorrow. Most of that would be in the dark with headlamp and some wind and snow maybe but the points would be Over the top!! Then it would be a taper until my 50k on the 17th. Even more points there. Loving it!!

Subzero temperatures for Saturday morning, so now I am doing the math to get a Guesstimate of points if I do this or that distance, etc. With multipliers of 8 I could really do some damage. What is a little Frostbite while running in the dark. I must purge this flesh of any weakness and arise a Leviathon of the Crappy weather Challenge!!!!!  See you on the battle field!!

Looking at doing 17 miles Saturday, they are calling for below 0. So now I have to figure how to keep my fluid from freezing. I am sure the bottle in my fuel belt will freeze, so I am thinking about using a fuel pack. I think as long as I keep the tube clear I should make it.

Most of the time my Camelbak stays warm with body heat. Lately I blow the fluid down the tube so it isn't exposed and it works out okay. Don't think I will push 17 this week due to my 50k next weekend. Good luck!!!

Seems like the U.K. weather is really working against me! Winds of 37mph, but temperatures of 5c mean no points .

Logged a Brutal 12 miler yesterday at 14 degrees with a 20+ headwind. Had to run an hour in the dark with a headlamp. Thought my chin might be getting frostbite but it went numb so I stopped worrying about it. lol. It was 1 degree this morning. If it is miserable tomorrow below zero I might brave it for 2 hours. We will see what my body says. Oh, I know what is says," What the Hell are you doing to me now, Get back to your Lazy Boy for the Love of God!!!"

First real snow of the year here in this part of Michigan. Finally able to start getting some points. Heading to Delaware to run a marathon tomorrow but I think it maybe a little too warm to accumulate any points.

woohoo!  my first points!  not many, but it seems Mother Nature has finally remembered that iit's actually winter! the temps actually got colder earlier in the week,  but i was ordered to rest since i dislocated my shoulder on sunday.  i'm not supposed to be doing much of anything still, but i figured a little run wouldn't be too hurtful.

wgraves7582 - 2011-12-10 7:20 AM Scored some running points today 19 degrees - brrrrrrrrrr!!  Trails are all muck - we need a deep freeze and quick!

I hate that. That's how it was like here a couple days ago when temperatures got up into the 40s during the day.

But this morning, everything was frozen again. 28 degrees; 13 mph winds; 116 minutes of running. Big points for me.

Cold Run on Saturday, 3 degrees and 8 by the time I got home. A nice 12 miler again. Wasn't as bad as I expected. Now I am gonna just relax the rest of the week and be ready for my 50k on Saturday. It will be hard to resist the urge to get out and run! Maybe I will Spin Bike on Wednesday. Easy peddle. Then after the race time to long some more misery and see if I can hit that First place by end of Challenge!!! Gonna push like a madman for that!!!

Ha, good luck with your race on Saturday. Hope it is cold so you make out like a bandit on points. For the last 3 years my 50k has been barely 0C, beautiful calm days for the most part.

Regarding your push for first place. Ha, All I can say is BRING IT!

Good luck on Saturday. Doesn't look to be as cold as last Saturday but if you take your time you could earn some nice points.
