Expert 1342![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Raleigh half?I swam in my wetsuit this morning outside at LTF in Cary. I am not sure of the water temp, but by the end of 2000m I was ready to come out of the wetsuit. I'm tracking the water temp per the SAW website, and we had been lagging behind quite a bit, but we are converging rapidly on the 2012 curve. Here's a comparison from March 18 to now of 2012 vs 2013 temperature differences. Also put 2012's data through June 5th there.
Looks like my decision has been made; no wetsuit for me. Edited by fgump 2013-05-15 9:55 AM |

Am I am totally planning on at least a 90 degree day - that way I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's any cooler. I answered ya here... in short the IM course is easier. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=458619&start=121&posts=126 |

Expert 1342![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Raleigh half?kp73 - 2013-05-15 10:08 AM I'd say that's comparable terrain for the last 30 miles of the route. Couple of those hills on Ebenezer are like what you will find on Avent Ferry and Optimist Farm. The first 25 miles you will move along pretty smartly. Only major climbs in the early portion are 1) coming out of T1 and 2) up Pea Ridge Road. Nice gentle rollers on Old US 1 until you get near Harris Lake County Park, then the hills start.Just posted over on the official thread but wasn't sure if folks were monitoring both - can anyone tell me how the hills on the bike route compare to Ebeneezer Church Rd over by Umstead Park - My bike route usually involves a few out and backs from NCSU area to the end Ebeneezer Church Rd. New user 31![]() | Subject: RE: Raleigh half?I'd have to agree with just slight caveat. I don't really remember anything that's as long as NB on ebenezer on the IM course. Maybe the closest thing is the climb from Penny Rd. to Tryon Rd. on Lake Wheeler, but that even seemed a little shorter. All in all, Optimist Farm has pretty nice rollers, not as gentle as Old US 1, and Lake Wheeler Road is just stretches of downhills and climbing, but still only like 1-2 miles, vs. Ebenezer, which seems to be more like 3-4 miles of climbing, although Ebenezer does flatten out at parts while the IM course does not IMO. I would suggest riding the course as the first roller you encounter on Optimist Farm has a semi-tricky chicane in the downhill. Think like Ebenezer except on steroids. Member 62![]() ![]() Raleigh | Subject: RE: Raleigh half? Thanks everybody - that makes me feel better. I'm hoping to at least ride downtown to Sunset Lake and back this weekend. Family commitments, 2 kids and a house renovation make it difficult to convince my husband he should take the morning to drive me out to Jordan Lake so I can ride the whole thing. Last speed workout was today(debating sneaking another set in next week though as I really enjoy them). Now it's almost taper time! |

Call me crazy but there is a part of me that wants that run to be in the 90's so people are hanging on by a thread.

No worries, I saw the S.T.Wooten concrete truck backing into the plant a little while ago... Bubba's got this covered. |
