Of course, unclipping before stops. Getting started at lights was a pain at first because I forgot to shift down before stopping...DUH!!! Heart rate shot through the roof a few times, until I stopped worrying about getting my foot out "in time". My last stop I had a little trouble because I got too cocky. I shifted twice before stopping but didn't pedal through...oooops! Left foot shot out of clip when I only got grinding chain upon take off. I'm sure it was a good show for the cars around the major intersection where I was flailing away. Overall a great confidence-boosting first ride. Yes! Woot! Awesome job! Keep practicing, it becomes second nature pretty quick. |

Member 892 England | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Richardsdrr - 2013-04-06 9:03 PM I've had a week of training PBs, which is nice. Started off the week by breaking both my 10 km and my HM Bests whilst on a long run, sweet, then, this mornings run gave me a new 5 km pb and have knocked off another 1 min 7 secs to bring me under 25 min barrier on ,y way to my sub 20 target . I am reading the JD book u recommended Salty, and so far, I'm liking it. I am already going to apply one of the teachings from it. That is, I'm gonna train at the current stress level for the next 6 weeks rather than raising the bar each time I pb. Hopefully reduce the risk of injury/burn out. Good luck to all the racing manatees out there this weekend, not that you'll need it. You've done the training, now reap the rewards. Nice training! I'm going to try that someday. |

Don't get me started on the pet food industry and the crap that goes into a lot of processed pet foods (even if what I have read is only half right then I still wouldn't feed it to my dogs). We go through a bit over 100lbs a week of food but the combined weight of our dogs is about 1,000lb. It averages to be about 10% of the dogs weight a week. The puppy gets more as she is still growing, but a couple of our veteran dogs get less because they have a tendency to put on weight easily.StaceyK - 2013-04-06 5:17 AM My dogs are the worst when they think they are going to the beach (a weekly occurrence in the summer) but getting around 6 excited mastiffs is not an easy achievement. You have 6 Mastiffs? How many pounds of dog food do you go through a week? Holy moly. |

I am planning to get this done in a few weeks time, got to save some $ first cause like bikes shoes are expensive here too. My plan is to find shoes that I like eg are comfortable and look good (might even go bright after being inspired by Tom and Salty) and then buy up online where I can get them at a decent price.[/QUOTEThis time last year i was about to take part in my first ever race, the Lincoln 10k and i learned a valuable lesson- Nothing new on race day. So, with 19 hours to go to the start line, i decided to get my gait assessed at our 'local' running specialist shop and have come out with a new pair of shoes, socks and elastic laces. Can't imagine anything could possibly go wrong in the morning. Good luck to all our fellow Manatee racers out there over the weekend. Apparently i strike on my outer heel (the left hand side of the shoe on my left foot) then roll in but go too far so that my foot is angled in (the right hand sie of the shoe is leaning towards my right foot.) It's not excessive but the shoe guy pulled a pair of shoes out for me and i went back on the treadmill for new video analysis and it was corrected immediately, as you watch the slow mo replays. Very good, informative process, and pretty quick too. My new shoes are way bigger than my old, and wider too.. the internal sole is built up a little on the inside to stop the roll in my gate. I do however feel like a clown! They are by New Balance and cost £81.00. They do look cool though. Lets hope i don't trip over them come race day!. Blisters??? Probably. I am a muppet and do think i should perhaps race in my old ones, but the guy in the shop said they looked wrecked, like i had done 2000 miles in them, when they were built for 4-600!! Plus, i like an challenge. He was a good guy who new what he was talking about. I casually mentioned that the running was a build up in my triathlon training (how cool is that, right?), he casually mentioned that he had completed 2 Ironman events. I shut up. He showed me his finisher medals in the glass case! |

Playing my brother's school Michigan. Good times. Go Orange[men]! What happened to the scores in college basketball? I realize it's been more than 15 years since I watched faithfully, but these scores are so low. Like half time scores from back in the old days.Ouch. That loss is gonna hurt for awhile. Sooooo, charge or block? That was NOT a charge! Horrible call. I am not a fan of either team, but I am also not a fan of a bad call ruining a great game. Basketball is what they play when they can't make good ice. Canucks are up 4-1 over Calgary. BTW, did you all know it was a Canadian that invented B-Ball? I believe it was Dr. Naismith who invented it to improve the skills of his gymnasts. (Off to look up to see if I'm right) ETA: I am indeed, although there were other and perhaps more primary reasons he invented it. Edited by TriAya 2013-04-07 3:04 AM |

After a frustrating Friday pm, i thought it would be a good idea to take wifey and daughter to the pub for dinner, which would give me the perfect excuse to snick a couple of pints and unwind. I gazed at the menu in a sort of perplexed way and decided that, with less than 48 hours to go before my first race of the season, i would, for the first time, take on one of their eating challenges. How dumb am I!!!! To cut a long story short, i failed to clear my plate, it is now 5am and my indigestion has kept me awake for half the night. I am not sure if i will actually have finished digesting everything before 11am tomorrow, despite thinking that several glasses of red wine might help. Somebody needs to give me a slap. Ok, just line up behind Salty and you'll get your turn when she eventually gets tired Everyone had you up on this comedic pedestal that I had yet to see (partially because I don't understand some of the banter you older manatee's have with each other)... but THIS MADE ME LAUGH REALLY FRICKING HARD! Nice to make your acquaintance my new British friend. (Manatee's are instant friends in my opinion). The pleasure's all mine i'm sure. So, i'm into my final pre race phase of drinking several 'fine strong ales' as taught to me by Salty and most of the other seasoned Manatees (Yanti is nothing if not over-indulgent, especially if there is a surplus of piglets, food or tropical diseases). There appears to be some wine left so i feel obliged to clear that too, after all, one cannot be too overhydrated. Also need to get to the shop as i may require a rennie or two before the end of the night. Hang on a minute, did you say 'comedic pedastal'. What have they been saying about me?????? Whatever is it, it can't be true....., after all, i have nothing but love and respect for all my fellow Manatees. BTW, did i read that Salty has been sent to Korea? Is that on the direct orders of the President in retaliation to the threatened nuclear strike? If so i think it's a bit extreme, the North Koreans don't seem that bad. CANTSTOPRAFFING |

Master 1970 Somewhere on the Tennessee River | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED "Who Are You" So I only intended to get on the trainer and ride for thirty minutes. Queued up The Who's Greatest Hits to keep me company as I have taken the TV out of the sun room. Got into the groove spinnin' and listenin' and before I knew it I rode until all songs were played. Just over an hour by my calculations. Got off the bike and got some water then put on my running shoes and cranked up the tread mill. Set it for a sedate 8 minute mile pace and ran for 12 minutes. *I'm doing that 30 day thingie so starting conservatively.* It felt good: nothing tinged or spoke up out of order.
Who's the Real Good Looking Boy, now? I'm back wearing my triathlon hat and pretty darn happy about it.
Get out and enjoy the day! 70's and sunshine again. Methinks winter is finally over. Yeah!
