Regular 127 Ankeny | Subject: RE: n + 1 swim challenge I love Iowa City, we spend seven Saturdays there every fall! I'm not from Des Moines, I grew up in California. We moved here after I got out of Active Duty a little over 10 years ago. My wife is originally from the Cedar Falls area which is one of the reason we ended up in Iowa. Today is the first 30 min TT I've done this year. However, one of the events I'm training for is the Pigman Long Course in August so I'm sure I'll be doing this time/distance about every six weeks or so. |

Since I don'thave pain with it, my down time should be minimal. This isn't me, but this is a picture that is representative of my shoulder lump. Now y'all know if you get a lump in the front of your shoulder, could be bursitis.

Member 119 Ledyard, CT | Subject: RE: n + 1 swim challenge Originally posted by switch Originally posted by axteraa Yes, nice job Mikey. I've found just a couple seconds on hundreds pacing can mean the difference between comfortable repeats and not being able to make the send-off, but it is just recently that I've been able to really feel my paces. It has made all the difference in the world for sticking to a set. Originally posted by MikeyP4 Got my n swim in for the week. On the advice I received over the weekend, I wanted to work on pacing but was limited on time. 200 w/u 100 kick 2 x (5 x 100 @ 2:00) -- I think I'm getting the hang of this swim lingo 100 kick 200 c/d I went out way too fast on the first two 100's (came in on 1:30) and my next three suffered. I got my pace much more under control on the second set (came in between 1:40-1:45). I see more of these sets in my very near future. That's great! Better pace control goes a long way to having better workouts and also being able to control effort properly in a race. Thanks! I knew that 1:30 was way too fast and that I couldn't keep that up too long, but I was surprised at the difference between 1:40 and 1:45. I'll most likely be working on pacing for my next few workouts. |

Veteran 727 Baltimore Area | Subject: RE: n + 1 swim challenge I did 3 workouts today. I had an early morning (5:30am) spin class. I was an hour class but I hopped out at 45 minutes, jooged down the hall and did 2 miles on the indoor track. My legs were screaming but I wanted to start practicing T2 bike to run. It took a mile for my legs to feel normal. Tonight I did my longest nonstop swim. warm up: 1 x 100 swim 1 x 50 pull Main: 1 x 1000 I wanted to do 600 more yards but I was tired and it was late. |

What does the 'I' stand for? Thanks. Edited by MikeyP4 2014-03-27 7:38 AM |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: n + 1 swim challenge 2450 this morning. Alternating some short, faster 25's with some easier swimming. Basically repeating 4 x 25 faster, 50 ez/mod. Stroke length (and speed) had been slipping some as I hadn't been grabbing hold as well. Stroke rate had gone up, but not enough to compensate and don't think it was in a good way for longer term development. Getting ahold again, but will see how things go later. Still kind of tight from earlier in the week. |

I dunno...maybe a couple of seconds but mostly it's straight through, and it's pretty easy though I might start to build a little the final 100 free depending on what's left of the warm up (if anything). |

It's not a big deal in warm-up. Quite often I don't do more than 100 straight even though it may say 500. Just keep the rests short, so that you do actually warm-up by the end. |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: n + 1 swim challenge Originally posted by switch I haven't. This particular issue is more with range of motion becoming limited due to fatigue. Sunday night had some very high intensity stuff at masters and then did the IM on Monday which tends to add to that. Still kind of tight from earlier in the week. And for masters in the evening was a number of 100's with earlier ones doing mixed skill and pacing work into some steady, quicker swimming. Rest. And then a couple rounds of exactly the same thing I did that morning 4 x 25 fast plus 50 easy, though she put larger send-off times. Can be a bit freaky how much the one coach and I can think alike at times. |

This has been a tough week training-wise overall so that's probably why. I have a recovery week next week so hopefully I won't be cooked again by Friday. |
