This particular comment is especially galling to me because it happens to feed into this growing anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant sentiment, which I personally find really scary. It feeds into the hatred of people like the guy who said that Muslims are "a problem" in this country (which Trump didn't correct), and the people who decided to make and armed show of force in front of a mosque in Texas. It feeds into the false and bigoted belief that Muslims who live in this country are not "true" Americans and are sympathetic to the terrorists, when there's no evidence that that's true for the overwhelming majority of them. Most people in this country, like a lot of people on this board, don't know any muslims, so to them, it sounds perfectly plausible that thousands and thousands of them could be cheering for the collapse of the WTC. That's a very, very dangerous lie. It won't have any effect on you if you're a white guy in Nebraska, so it's easy to shake off and dismiss, but imagine if you're the parents of a Muslim kid in public school in Jersey City? Now you've got to send your kid to school knowing that a Presidential Candidate told everyone in the country that people like your kid were cheering for the deaths of people on 9/11? It's reprehensible. There's no other word for it. In the past few months, we've had a homegrown terrorist kill six people in a church in SC and another one kill three people last week in Colorado, so, the fact that we're SO worried about potential terrorists coming into the US as refugees is absurd to me. But Trump and others in the GOP have their constituents convinced that the "problem" is a bunch of other Americans who happen to be Muslim, most of whom just want to live and work and worship the same way we do. I think you give Trump and the GOP WAAAAY too much credit. I've got news for you, there are A LOT of people in this country who don't need Trump or the GOP to decide that Muslim's are "a problem" in this country.......they decided that all on their own some time ago. What you have in Trump is a guy running for public office willing to stand up and say those things out loud. It resonates with a large segment of the population. It's PEOPLE jmk, not Trump. I know I'm quoting myself, jmk, but yesterday will just go further to show my point. The reporting of yesterday's shooting in Bernardino is already full of irrational presumptions......and Trump hasn't said a word about it. (yet) The GOP and Trump are not convincing anyone......that's being done for them. The news coverage was a bit over the top with calling this anything but Terror. The media doesn't realize how blatantly dishonest and political correct they've become and the American people see it now more than ever before. I saw this article last night, and find it interesting how political correctness and the fear of offending has replaced common sense and gut instinct. I didn't mention it the other day, but there were several people on various news outlets saying if we get a paris style attack on US soil then Trump wins. Obama and Hillary can't even call these people terrorists so everyone knows they're inept at dealing with the problem. I read an article the other day that mentioned how Obama wouldn't bomb ISIS oil production facilities because he was worried about the environmental impact. WTF In fairness, I flipped to Fox this morning and those folks had virtually lost their minds. One "reporter on the scene" actually said, "I believe they were on their way back to engage the police, because this is part of what these terrorists do, engage the police".......then he said, "why do I believe that was going to happen?"...........I half expected that moron to say, "I don't know, I just make this crap up as I go along". Then they went on and on about the "left" this and the "left" that.....it was ridiculous. It's still irrational to believe we need to be afraid of Muslims. We need to fear crazy people. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was hoping Trump wouldn't win the nomination so that I might have someone a bit less ridiculous to consider voting for. Honestly, after the last election, I was hoping the Republicans would see the light and pick a more socially moderate candidate this time around, rather than appealing to the far right. But now, whether Trump or someone else wins, the Republicans just officially lost my independent vote. Passing a bill to cut funding for contraceptives, cancer, and STD screenings for low income women, when we have about a zillion other problems they could be spending their time on? I'm out. Done. Won't vote for these guys again until they get their heads out of their . |

I'll be honest that the social side of things aren't high on my list of concerns, but I've always felt Trumps stance on social issues what his biggest hurdle to get over for the nomination. Pretty much every candidate running against him is branding him as a Democrat socially, and I don't think there's a more socially liberal person in the pack than Trump. So, technically the most socially liberal Republican running is the one that's out in front. Obviously he's not as socially Liberal as Hillary or Sanders, but as far as Republicans go I don't think there's any more Liberal. |

That he threw his name in for the free publicity and maybe a bit for his own personal amusement. He probably figured he could steer the political discourse of the debates to his liking if he was up there attacking the other candidates. And now that he has such a commanding lead with less than 2 months before the primaries begin, he's just going to get more and more outlandish. See just how far he can jerk the American public around before stepping aside. |

How exactly would this self profess "winner" quit the race and then claim that he's a "winner". Um, that would be a loser. Anyways, as for his comments. I don't think the outrage is any more than it was for his illegal immigration comments and building the wall comments. Ironically virtually everyone on the Republican side is trying to "out tough" Trump on immigration now even though they all lambasted him at the start. We are at war with radical islam, we didn't start it, but to deny it isn't true is dangerous. Our current leaders and all the other candidates are too politically correct to even admit it. Americans want to be safe and they want a leader who wants to keep them safe. We have proven over and over again that our screening processes are incapable of stopping international terrorism and Trump said that we should shut the door on allowing muslims into our country "until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on,". If we were at war with Germany we wouldn't allow german citizens to come to the US, if we were at war with Russia we wouldn't allow Russian citizens to come to the US, so why is it any different when we're at war with radical islam? All that being said, the polls will certainly play out where they play out but based on his support and where it comes from i don't think this will effect him as much as you guys think it will. It certainly doesn't effect my support for him. |

Just like it was when Joe McCarthy was blacklisting people and potentially ruining their career or even life by claiming they were either a communist or a communist sympathizer. McCarthy wasn't running for President. Now.....watch Trump soar through this and come out with even higher numbers. It's the same reason gun sales spike through the roof when there is a mass shooting. Make no mistake.....I think Trump is a nut....but he knows his audience one hell of a lot better than you do. This election, if he gets the nod, will polarize this country like never before.....it may be needed. I'm good with seeing, as a nation, just what we decide we're willing/able to tolerate and what we won't. So far there is quite a bit of mouth running and not much action. It'll be interesting to see if people will really vote for the things they are afraid to say out loud......the voting booth gives them that same anonymity. It'll be fun to watch. Buttercup ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What a nutjob. He just makes stuff up and his supporters make excuses for him, never mind that his preposterous, inflammatory proposals would never be implemented (pesky Constitution). He gratifies his supporters' urge to lash out and blame others for their anxious existence. He reminds me of a toddler I saw tormenting her mom in the checkout line the other day. Mother would try to correct the toddler, the toddler would scream louder, mother would placate her. She's raising a little monster. |
