aquinn - 2008-07-08 1:17 PM Ha! My husband owns the Mexican restaurant in Lake Placid.

Do you guys serve Chicken Enchiladas with salsa verde?  That's my all-time favorite pre-race food Smile   I'm up for any BT meal there.

www.mexiquinn.com  Chicken ench with green sauce is on there. There is also tomatillo (green) salsa.

Will you two knock it off! I love Mexican but if I can't talk the people I'm going up with to go out and eat it I'll Wed or thurs. I probably wont be able to get any!!!

o.k. so 6:25 does make sense. I'm confused. Damn pros

rollinbones - 2008-07-09 9:29 AM Pros start at 6:45 according to the Athlete Guide too. 6:25 doesn't make any sense to me but what do I know?
6:45 would mean they would have to swim through all the AG. I think 6:25 would allow them to be on there 2nd lap prior to the AG start. My first IM so I have no idea what they do with the Pros.

Hey Rob,

Did I miss something? Is the bike 1,112 miles and the aid stations are every 100 miles? I feel really unprepared now

Alright, enough of this "I just want to finish" bullsh-t ...... every single one of you has numbers in your mind of where you'd like to be.  Let's get them out there and on the table.  There will be no accountability as anything and everything can happen come race day, but we all have realistic numbers we want to hit.

Me first .........

Swim - 1:20 or better.  If I can go under 1:20 I'd be faster than my FL time and would be quite happy with it.  Hopefully with minimal effort!

Bike - 6:15-ish.  Key for me is to just stay in control and make it a leisurely Sunday ride like I've tried to do the last 4 weekends.  I was averaging from 19 - 19.4 averages for this rides which would put the time under 6, but those rides were not 112 miles, and not quite as hilly.

Run - big mystery for me ...... because I have zero long distance running since before Boston with my longest run only being 15 miles and a bit of a struggle.  If I do not hold back on the bike it is going to be another long marathon stroll.  BUT ...... if I can hold back then I'd like to see 4:00 on the run.

Transitions - 10 minutes max total.

Overall??  Assuming I can run some, I want to beat my FL time of 12:35.  That's the best laid plan, but anything can happen.

Post 'em people .......... don't puzzy foot around the question!!!

The way I figure it, it does not matter to me when the pro's start, I'm starting at 7:00 :-)

And PS - that bike is THUPER FAST because it still has the stylish aerodynamic cassette guard on it.... At least the reflectors are off. All those GU's make my stomach hurt looking at them...

Okay, so I have the best wife in the whole world. Last night she asked me to come down to the garage and help her unload some stuff from the car. Figuring she made another trip to Costco I was prepared for some heavy lifting of copious bottles of laundry detergent (she loves to do laundry). When I opened the trunk, BAM!, she surprised me with a present for my first IM...a brand new set of Zipp 606s.  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I too will join the fast looking, slow guys club

WOW, I like the "put it on the table" approach...

Looks like we are going to spend alot of the day together Daremo... At least until you run away from me on the run/walk/crawl leg...

Total goal - sub 13 (12:59:59), which should make it still light out I think (is it light at 8pm in LP in mid July?)

Here is how that breaks out...

Swim, sub 1:20

Bike, 5:59:59, but I am not going to kill myself to get it. Did FLIM 70.3 in 2:29, so I can slow down quite alot from that and break 6.

Run, this has been tough for me. Solo marathon this year, 4:06, IM goal, probably between 5-5:30, i really suspect quite a bit of walking. My half was a dismall 2:18, but it should be about 20 degrees cooler in LP than Orlando.

Transitions, same, 10-12 minutes.

I do not know how 1/2 times corespond to fulls (2.2x, 2.5x??) but my half number was 5:32... so we will see.

Last year my HIM time was a 4:55 and my IM was a 12:35 ....... because I pushed the bike way too hard for the level of ability I had at the time.

So this year I am going to be very conservative on the bike.

Very good to know. I am going to be super conservative loop 1. Traditionally I would go out fast and try not to fade. This time I will go out and try to do loop 1 in 3 hours and if I am stromg enough to do loop 2 in 2:59:59, then I break 6, if not, I won't. Also, I will judge my effort early and often and if 3 feels like too hard when I am on Hasselton, I will slow.

All of the advice I have received here has been super useful and I really appreciate all of it.

I look forward to talking to some of you at the swims and meals to get more advice as this is my first full.

Still no numbers...

Ok I'll throw it out there:

Swim: 1:20

T1: 7-10 min

Bike: 7 hours.  I just want to be on a leisurely ride.

T2: 7-10 min

Run:  I'm pretty sure I can go 4:30.  I'll likely start out around 9:30 pace and should be able to hold that through the half way point.  After that, all bets are off.  My goal is to run station to station and take whatever time I need walking through the stations.

So right around 13 hours total.

In all honesty, I want to be able to negative split each leg.  I think if I do that, I'll have a great race.

Just to be very clear - that is not my bike (it was posted on a slowtwitch thread about nutrition overkill, which was pretty hilarious, especially the suggestion about filling the tubes with chewy nougat: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1856225;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25.

I will be starting the bike with my bottle of carbopro 1200 on the downtube, and that is all. I'll pick up a plain water bottle at the first aid station.

As far as goals, I have these in my blog but here they are:

Swim: 1:15 (1:19 in 2006)

Bike: 6 hours (6:17 in 2006, riding fairly easy and stopping to pee about five times)

Run: 3:30 (3:59 in 2006)

Transitions: Under 10 minutes total (12 minutes in 2006)

Total: Under 11 hours.

I swore I wasn't gonna do this...

Assuming (among many other things) that I will be completely recovered from my recent respiratory issues my training  indicates these numbers are within reach:

swim: 1:15 - hopefully faster

bike: 6:30 - maybe slower, but not much dammit

T1 & 2: :15  max - includes bike S/N to grab Perp

Run: 4:30 - hopefully faster

Total: 12:30

Goal is to start the RUN at the 8 hour mark.   Then RUN the entire thing. That WILL happen!

Hahaha! Very true. No excuses now!

PennState - 2008-07-09 1:19 PM I have to tell you, my wife has given me something even bigger than 606s.... she has supported my triathlon addiction and made the huge sacrifices for me. She has been selfless about it, and that reminds me.... I need to buy her something really nice with diamonds for all this

Now THAT is an awesome post! Yup, on behalf of all of us about to take on IMLP or any other challenge for that matter, I'd like to thank all of our wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, parents, friends...all of you who have supported us, encouraged us and helped us get to this point. Thank you!

And now, back to the time predictions trash talk!

Great post!! Hear hear to the support teams. My Fiance' did luck out a little though, I made a pact that I would spend more on her engagement ring then I did on my new bike, race prepped... She wins, but so do I, because she actually said yes to all of this craziness...
