Summer is officially here and I know of at least one strong soul ready to toe the line this weekend for a little IM love.  What about the rest of you?  Spill it!

That would be me!! Ironman Coeur d'Alene, baby!!

In my typical chaotic fashion, I am in no way prepared to leave town tomorrow and am taking things one day, one hour, one minute at a time... kinda like I plan to do in my race!! Today I'll work on my packing a bit, squeezing that around a run/coffee with Linda, Steve and Ryan; swim practice and piano lessons for the kids; goggle replacement; and hopefully a little R&R. As always when a trip is pending, I just want to get on the road. Then I can relax a bit. But I got lots to do to get there!! The bike is in order and the tri clothes are clean, so I got that much workin' for me!!

Good luck to the other racers!!

Wow, I didn't realize that was this weekend.  Good luck and have a great time!

I'm not racing, but I am doing a 100K bike event in Madison this weekend.  We decided last night to stay in town so I simply can't pass it up-it uses a large part of the IM course backwards plus some other fab hilly areas.  Perfect practice. And the weather is supposed to be stellar. And I love SAG/Food events!!!

Ok, I'll weigh in one last time on the whole swim alone, but only in response to this comment from Kyla "boat traffic and seeing more colored caps"....we have a lot of boat traffic on Lake Monona and I would not trust that they see ten caps or one cap.  Only way people swim in that lake is at 5-6am in the morning when boat trafic is ALMOST non-existent. They just aren't looking that low in the water.  Same can be said for our lake in Minocqua which is why I always stick close to shore (there is a thre foot rule from the piers) unless the man is out in the kayak.   In the end, it really is up to each invidiual to decide what they're comfortable with, right?

Boats not being able to see you is a good reason not to swim solo.  Obviously easier to see a group if you all stick together.

One thought on swimming alone: my friend Carol, Keyone here on BT, posted about a swim noodle on her blog. It is not a bad idea to have one when swimming alone. In case of a cramp or to make you more visible if you are swimming near boat traffic:

http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/post/safety-noodle/

??

People in my tri club use one of these for ows.  Put on your race belt and then tie on the "hippity hop" with a rope that's about 5' long.  Doesn't create much drag, VERY visible to other swimmers and boaters (especially orange, yellow, or pink), and you can use it if you need a rest.  It's like having your own buoy that follows you around.  It is one of those things where you just have to get over thinking you look stupid! LOL

No racing for me. I'm going to do a nice long trail run in Steve and Kyla's stomping grounds, Cougar Mountain. Also, going to get my bike out on the road.

Seattle area peeps- Any suggestions on places to ride? I'm in the Black Diamond/ Maple Valley area, but willing to travel... low traffic would be great since I'm out of practice.

What??? NO INVITES!?! I'm hurt!

For biking stay out there... Black Diamond as some good riding...

I couldn't keep up with you (and would kill myself trying), Steve, otherwise I'd love too.

Thanks for the black diamond suggestion. I raced the half in 2009. Beautiful, fun course, but as I recall the residents weren't too fond of us (the only race I've done where we were actually warned of this), which makes me a bit nervous. I haven't had my bike on the road for probably a year, so was kind of hoping there'd be some bike trails I might be able to get on just to warm up a bit.

Out along 169 there is a trail called the cedar river trail... Black Diamond to Renton

hippity hop

I do have a SWIMSAFE and wore it when I was going through all those swim anxiety issues in OW in '09.  Kind of cumbersome, but probably no more than the hippity hoppity thing above.

do you guys put your tech t's in the dryer or on the drying rack?  i always put em' on the drying rack, well the one time i did laundry a year and a half ago when jarrett was sick.  i just took a load out of the wash and it was ridiculous having to set em' all up on the rack.

We hang all our tech shirts, bike shorts, etc.  With 2 people it's a nightmare, sometimes a full load of wash goes in and 3-4 things actually end up in the dryer.

yeah!  it was a full freaking load and we have one of those high efficiency deals so the loads are big. we always hang the tri/bike shorts and tops.  its just all these tech tees.  i want to throw em' all in the dryer but then at the last second i'm like wait what if it shrinks and i can't wear it... that was a cool race.   btw, doug/tracy.  out augusta shirt is the ugliest shirt ever.

funny tho, nowadays i much prefer them over the cotton jobs at races.  remember when we were thinking about shirts for lone star and i was adamant about cotton shirts.

edit.  shirts not shorts for lone star.

where there's a majority, there's also a minority.  a very capable swimmer from our church drowned in water he was able to stand in.  water at any depth should be respected.

edit.. well, there does not have to be a minority if the majority is 100%.  but i think you get my point.

I'm sorry to hear about your fellow church member and I do agree that water at any depth should be respected.  But I am curious, is it known how he got into trouble?  panick, cramp, heart attack?  If you really want to find an answer to your question the "why" matters. Not sure it's possible but...

Yeah, the bastard never even thanked me.  His wife did but not him.  Doesn't matter.  I'm much happier knowing he didn't die in front of his kids.

Good luck Kyla!  Kick some CdA tushie!!!

Yes, dry the tech tops on the drying rack, for sure.  Otherwise, in the dryer they end up all static(ky) and that never feels good...heart rate monitor hates static cling, too!

I stay out of the laundry area unless it's an emergency.  I am the clothes "folder" but not the clothes "washer".  Kathy loves doing laundry.  That's what I keep telling myself, at least.

eta: wait, i missed this the first time.  YOU were adamant about something???  what was going on that day, John?  Tongue out

Speaking of clothing, what do you guys do with your sweaty stuff post workout?  I don't like throwing it directly in the hamper, used to hang it over our MB tub that we never used until dry then wash but now my bathroom is the size of a closet.  Anyone have a cool setup in the bathroom or laundry room?

cramp and current together got him into trouble.  off a beach in the north atlantic, if that means anything.

And how did poor Dino get dragged into this convo?

Maybe the dogs would be a wee bit healthier if you fed them and gave them a bit to drink

do you guys put your tech t's in the dryer or on the drying rack?  i always put em' on the drying rack, well the one time i did laundry a year and a half ago when jarrett was sick.  i just took a load out of the wash and it was ridiculous having to set em' all up on the rack.

I put my tech t's in the dryer, except for bike shirts and one Nike top.

Speaking of clothing, what do you guys do with your sweaty stuff post workout?  I don't like throwing it directly in the hamper, used to hang it over our MB tub that we never used until dry then wash but now my bathroom is the size of a closet.  Anyone have a cool setup in the bathroom or laundry room?

the floor! the dogs don't care. except joe.  he lays in the clean laundry...

Please tell me that grey thing is your dirty sock and not the arm sleeve of your t shirt.
